[Review] Celine Dion- Ashes

Post by: Diva Devotee
Ergh.

I thought I could get back in the crypt after my Christina Aguilera review. Turns out one of our most iconic Divas, Celine Dion, has other plans for me, having also chosen today to release new music.

Celine Dion Turns Rap Songs Into Beautiful Ballads On Ellen

Is someone forcing Ellen DeGeneres to do that talk show? Gurl always looks so damn miserable and uninterested in the clips I've watched for this blog.

Anywho, the regal Celine Dion was on the show, and Ellen, after some of that Tonight Show virility, had the Diva play her own jacked version of The Wheel of Musical Impressions. The twist, Celine had to balladise rap songs.

[New Music] Celine Dion - "Recovering"

Celine Dion has been through the meat grinder of life recently with the loss of both her husband and brother within a short space of time.

In the wake of all the grief comes her first release. Penned by Pink, Recovering charts the singer's struggle to come to terms with that sadness and the journey back to some semblance of normality. Simple and piano-driven, it contains one of Celine's most restrained and emotive vocals. Those expecting bombastic, fifth octave belting stay away. Recovering is an intimate glimpse into a grieving woman's soul.

Tissues on standby, y'all!

Celine Dion Dutty Whines during "Wheel of Musical Impressions"

Celine Dion has the most infectiously enthusiastic attitude. So, as soon I read that she'd taken part in The Tonight Show's Wheel Of Musical Impressions, I knew it was going to make for good viewing.

Loose and game, Celine didn't only serve vocal likenesses. She went a step further, embodying their physicalities, too. Her dusty Dutty Whine- during Work- wasn't something I knew I needed, but I'll be henceforth thanking the universe for it being delivered unto me.

Damn you Fallon for cutting it short. It would have ended up in a full on slut-drop! I just know it!

Celine Dion Electrifies the Billboard Awards With "The Show Must Go On" Cover

Celine Dion has a had a tough time of late, losing both her husband and brother in quick succession. Still reeling from those losses, the Diva gave a tearful acceptance speech when collected the Icon Award at the 2016 Billboard Music Awards.

The Legend also performed at the show, singing the dramatic and fitting Queen cover: The Show Must Go On.  Delivering an electric rendition, the Diva reminded all why she is considered to be one of the best vocalists of past and present, owning the stage like the music royalty she is.

*sorry for the cruddy quality of the video. Will embed a new one if I find.*

[Battle Of The Legends] Whitney Houston Vs Mariah Carey Vs Celine Dion

Whitney Houston Vs Mariah Carey Vs Celine Dion
Post Submitted by Dante

Battle of The Legends!!! You have...

Mariah Carey (Light Lyric Coloratura Soprano):

What separates Mariah from the other divas is her musicality, range, and crazy agility. Mariah has been known to write 95% of her music and produce a good amount, too. Mariah possesses a five octave voice, meaning the women can sing low tenor to high soprano if she wants to. Also, she has the ability to sing complex runs and riffs without wavering pitch or losing fluidity. But with all things greats comes with it's downfalls, she lacks consistency in a live setting, and low notes are often sung with a low larynx.

Celine Dion Not So Successfully Attempts Adele's "Hello"

When people lazily throw out the word "overrated" when speaking about Adele, the easiest way I find to help them see that this isn't quite fair is to show them someone else singing her material. After all, if she was overrated, surely anyone could do what she does.

[Watch] Celine Dion Delivers Sombre Performance Of "O Holy Night" @ Michael Buble Christmas Special

Michael Buble Christmas special celine dion

Celine Dion is going through some tough stuff right now. Maybe it was knowing this that had me so moved by her evocative rendition of O Holy Night, recorded for a Michael Buble Christmas special.

With beautifully simple staging, Celine delivered a touching take on the seasonal carol. With minimal belting, it was her control and poise that lifted the performance. Usually not being a fan of the traditional style of the carol, which this was, it was the melancholy edge - that I'm probably projecting onto it- that lifted the performance from the mundane, transforming it into the most     affecting version of O Holy Night I've heard by a Diva.

Celine Dion Pays Tribute To Paris Victims With Emotional Rendition of "L'hymne à L'amour"

I wouldn't feel right commenting too harshly on Céline Dion's rendition of L'hymne à L'amour at 2015 AMAs. It wasn't perfect, and was definitely pitchy, but this was about more than notes and vocals; it was about sending a message of unity to those who have, and are still, suffering with the aftermath of this month's terrorist attacks in France.

It was a simple but touching and honest tribute. I wouldn't expect anything less from Celine.

[Duelling Divas] "Memory" From "Cats"

I've been around a fair few years. And I've known that there's a musical dedicated to my most favouritest of creatures for most of that time. Yet, I still have not taken my toosh to see the musical, Cats.

It could have something to do with me hating people and not wanting to be sat next to a stranger for an extended period of time. But that doesn't explain why I've never watched it online or when it's been on television...hmmm. None of this is your concern, so I'll save the rest of this self-exploitory descent into madness for my angst-ridden diary.

[Watch] Ariana Grande Impersonates Christina Aguilera and Celine Dion On The Tonight Show

Ariana Grande rocked up to The Tonight Show where she gave an interview that I did not watch. What she also did was play the Wheel Of Musical Impressions with host Jimmy Fallon. Now that I did watch!

[New Music] Celine Dion - "L'hyme"

Y'all craving some new Celine Dion? Then pin back those lugholes and take a listen to this, her latest offering L'hymne. The sharper ones might notice that title ain't here no English, dagnabbit. And youz be right! This here be a French ditty taken from that here movin' picture thing-y, La Guerre Des Tuques.

[Duelling Divas] "Lady Marmalade"

Lady Marmalade was a smash hit for LaBelle in 1975 and featured the scandalously suggestive chorus of "Voulez-vous coucher avec moi (ce soir)?". At the time of release, Patti Labelle -who handled the lead- claimed she never really understood the français, saying: "I didn't know what it was about. Nobody, I swear this is God's truth, nobody told me what I'd just sung a song about."

[Watch] Ariana Grande Imitates Celine Dion On The Tonight Show

The title says it all, really!

This little moment took place on the Tonight Show, and marked Ariana Grande's FIRST ever talk show interview. Isn't that crazy? Surely that can't be right, but I'm not going to argue with Ariana's recollection of events.

[Forbes' Rich List 2014] Diva's Making Money!

This post is about something which is of no real concern to us plebs. Like really, what does it matter that these divas have gotten even more filthy rich over the period June 2013 to June 2014? Still, human nature is such that we are all as nosy as a Proboscis monkey/anteater cross, so let me just go right on ahead and post Forbes' tally of top earning female musicians.

For those wondering how they calculated the figures for said list, check out their site [here]. Even so, I'd take these figures with a pinch of these-don't-affect-my-life-in-any-way-so-who-really-cares. Though, if any of you lovely Divas are reading this, how bout buying me a diamond necklace. You clearly can afford it and I obviously deserve it....

Regarder la liste, peeps :

[Watch] Celine Dion Lips her way through Strictly Come Dancing Performance of "Breakaway"

Celine Dion was preaching to that key demo with her appearance on Strictly Come Dancing this weekend. Smart lady!

Moving on from promoting the single Loved Me Back to Life, The Canadian Diva brought the ballad Breakaway to the United Kingdom's shores. Though lipping to the gorgeous song, the singer looked flawless in black, compensating for the lack of voice by serving up as much dramatics as she could muster from a static position- which was quite a bit, apparently.

But I'm not even mad at Celine for lipping. I wouldn't have wasted my time, or precious voice, when those two were dancing in front of me, grabbing focus! Dion demands all our attention, damn it!

Still, love the song.

[Spam Post] Live Performances From Black Girls Rock, The EMAs and The X-Factor

There has been a whole host of live events that I haven't managed to cover on the blog- most notably Black Girls Rock and the European Music Awards. I did consider just letting the events float by, undocumented, but decided you guys deserve more! So here goes!

[Watch] Celine Dion Sings A Snippet Of "Loved Me Back To Life" In A Toilet....For Realz

This strange event was aired during Celine Dion's stint on Le Banquier- which is apparently the Quebec derivative of the game show that loves boxes: Deal Or No Deal. I'm not sure why they were filming this moment- or following her into the loo- but it proves that Celine doesn't have to mime the belts (as some have suggested) to latest single, Loved Me Back To Life. She's clearly more than capable of hitting the notes.

The video ends with the Canadian Diva showing her funny side, telling a man heading to the restroom- which she'd just left- that he should use it quickly before she purchases it for its "amazing" sound. I can only imagine what "sound" he thought she was talking about! (...at least I think she was joking....)

[Discussion] Celine Dion Speaks About Music Industry And Over Sexualised Young Artists

Celine Dion is clearly a Diva who isn't afraid to give her opinion. Speaking to Access Hollywood on the promotional trail for new single Loved Me Back To Life, the Diva was asked her thoughts on the younger generation of music stars who use controversy to sell their product. But what did she say? Find out below...
