Katy Perry Owns the Summer With "Feels".

Post by: Montrez Rambo

So, I live in a vacuum sometimes. I don't get internet access that often but when I do, the first thing I do is check out every single new song I missed. And Feels by Calvin Harris is just everything I needed this summer!

[Tragic] Katy Perry Continues Free Fall On SNL

Post by: Diva Devotee
Katy Perry is having the era from hell with album number five, Witness.

The lukewarm reception to Rise- which I actually enjoyed- in hindsight should have read as a warning from the fates that a continuation in this "mature" direction would be unwise. The subsequent releases of Chained to the Rhythm, Bon Appétit and now, Swish Swish appears to confirm this, suggesting ain't nobody here for "woke"* wretches* Perry. Give the kids that sweet, sweet, candy pop.

Britney Spears and Katy Perry release new music

Today is a good day for fans of Divas usually filled under the label: “entertainer”.

Surprise releases have come from two of pop's biggest names, Katy Perry and Britney Spears. Whereas the latter's new song is set to support the Olympic coverage in the US- and is bullshitingly (currently) hid behind an "exclusivity" to a streaming service, so I can't post it- Britney Spears' Make Me... (ft. G-Eazy) is thankfully on YouTube for all of us to hear.

[Watch] Katy Perry Puts On A Show @ Rock In Rio 2015

Rihanna wasn't the only one performing at Rock In Rio 2015. Fellow Diva, Katy Perry was also strutting her stuff at the festival, putting on a show that was waaaay more involved (and PG) than her mate's was. It was classic Perry with props, costume changes and her acting the fool on numerous occasions.

[Music Video] Madonna - "B!tch I'm Madonna"

Anyone expecting a big budget extravaganza, akin to that Taylor Swift created with her celeb-rich Bad Blood video, are going to be disappointed today. Sure, B!tch I'm Madonna does deliver on the hinted at A-list cameos- with Beyonce, Katy Perry and Miley Cyrus all popping up- but they're in no way integrated into the spectacle, as was the case with Tay's video.

Katy Perry Leaves The Gimmiks at Home For 2015 Grammy Performance

After the exuberance and spectacle of her Super Bowl performance, Katy Perry stripped it back for her showing at the 2015 Grammy Awards.

[Watch] Katy Perry Delivers So-So Half-Time Super Bowl Performance

The previous three years of Super Bowl half-time shows must have spoiled me. How else can I explain Katy Perry riding in to her half-time extravaganza atop a giant CAT not making her performance an immediate win for me.

Divas Rule YouTube's Most Peeped Music Videos of 2014

The top ten most viewed YouTube music videos of 2014 has been released by the internet giant. On the list there are a few surprises -namely Enrique Iglesias and Sia- but it'll come as no real shock that all the visuals were for pretty big chart hits.

The real good news though, 8 out of the 10 entries are female singers! Divas getting money!

[Forbes' Rich List 2014] Diva's Making Money!

This post is about something which is of no real concern to us plebs. Like really, what does it matter that these divas have gotten even more filthy rich over the period June 2013 to June 2014? Still, human nature is such that we are all as nosy as a Proboscis monkey/anteater cross, so let me just go right on ahead and post Forbes' tally of top earning female musicians.

For those wondering how they calculated the figures for said list, check out their site [here]. Even so, I'd take these figures with a pinch of these-don't-affect-my-life-in-any-way-so-who-really-cares. Though, if any of you lovely Divas are reading this, how bout buying me a diamond necklace. You clearly can afford it and I obviously deserve it....

Regarder la liste, peeps :

[Miracles Can Happen] Katy Perry Booked For Super Bowl Halftime show

Looks like someone has found Aladdin's lamp- quite possibly Katy Perry herself. Why, you ask? Because it's been announced that the Diva has been booked to play one of the biggest gigs on American television: The 2015 Super Bowl halftime show!!

Are Taylor Swift and Katy Perry "Straight-up Enemies"?

Looks like Taylor Swift has turned the sharp end of her pen towards her own kind. No one is safe anymore!!! Having written some not so nice songs about various boyfriends, the Diva has now taken aim (with track Bad Blood) at a fellow, female pop star! SAY WHAT!

Yes, That Is Mariah Carey In Katy Perry's Video For "This Is How We Do"!

I am feeling the video for Katy Perry's new single, This is How We do. Really, I am!

The song itself isn't bad, being another kinda generic ode to going out, getting stupidly drunk and putting it about- sorta my life story. But my enjoyment of it has been enhanced a hundredfold by the playful visuals the song has been given.

Katy Perry Celebrates fan's "Birthday" @ 2014 Billboard Music Awards

I'm convinced Katy Perry uses all the colours and visual aides to distract us from how basic she really is.

Katy Perry Dresses Up Again And Again For "Birthday" Visuals...*Eye Roll*

Wasn't katy Perry supposed to be growing up with her new album Prism?! So what the saveloy is going on with the over-the-top video for new single Birthday?

Could it be that her marketing people know who are buying her music and are thus making the videos bright and wacky accordingly- despite the pervy lyrics? Whatever the case, this song is doing little for me and I'll stay waiting on the video for '90s house-infused Walking On Air.

I'll leave this one for you guys to get into.

Dawn Richard Remixes Katy Perry's "Dark Horse"

Looks like the Egyptian Gods have blessed Katy Perry with a gift of gargantuan proportions: Dark Horse getting a Dawn Richard makeover.

As excited as I was/am about the news that Danity Kane were working on a new album, I couldn't help be a little dismayed that it would probably put the kibosh on Dawn's solo output- which has been phenomenal so far! However, this remix hints to the Goldenhearted girl still releasing solo gems, despite the reformation of the group that brought her to our attention. And that's great news as far as I'm concerned!

Take a listen to Dawn Richard's experimental remix of Dark Horse, below.

Katy Perry Offends Seemingly Everyone (Except me) With "Dark Horse" Visuals

Yep, I'm late with posting the Dark Horse video by Katy Perry. But since everyone seems to be mightily offended by it, I figured I may as well so you guys can comment on it.

My two pennies on it are thus: it's a cute video that makes no sense what.so.ever. There's no connections to ancient Egypt in the lyrics- though the ancient world is referenced with mention of Aphrodite- yet the video is rocking the theme as if its life depended on it.

Also, the visuals are oddly light and bright, despite the Diva referring to the song as "witchy and dark", and the rap segment mentioning a serial killer, cannibalism and steroids. But I think that was the point. The video's frothy aesthetic was chosen to make the song more palatable to middle America. After all, that is where the bucks are!

Ignoring the motives behind the video, simply put: I liked it. It was a fun take on a period of history that I've always been fascinated by. But I'm not a Muslim, nor someone connected with Egypt in any way, so perhaps it's unsurprising I took it as nothing more than a pop video. But what do you guys think? Is it offensive or just  a bit of fun?

ETA: Apparently there is a connection to Egypt (who would have thunk it), but it's nothing to do with the song and it's rather a tenuous link. The director of the video explained it:

“[Perry] said that there’s actually a place in Egypt called Memphis, and she thought it was so interesting that Juicy J is from Memphis, Tenn.,” explains director Mathew Cullen. “She basically came to me and said, ‘I want to do something Egyptian and I want to combine it with Memphis hip-hop.’ That’s music to my ears — when an artist has a couple concepts that they want to mash up to create something fresh.”

Katy Perry Turns Neon Cleopatra For 2014 Brit Performance

katy perry brit awards 2014

Katy Perry has been all up in that dress up box (again) for her 2014 Brit Award showing of Dark Horse.

Whereas her Grammy performance (of the same song) saw her turning to the occult for inspiration, this time the Diva went old school, and I mean REALLY old school, with an Egyptian style ensemble. If you thought the current site layout was bright and brash, just check out the neon/ luminescent colours Katy teamed the theme with to bring the production into the 21st century.

I'm not even going to speak on the vocals, as it's pretty much standard Katy Perry realness, but she did once again deliver on the visuals! I suppose we can't have it all...

Katy Perry Is Sure To Get Those Illuminati Nuts Going With Spooky "Dark Horse" Performance @ 2013 Grammy

katy perry Grammy 2014

You know what? We all know by now that Katy Perry is not the best vocalist in the world. I think even she knows that. But what she compensates this assault on our auditory system with, well at least when performing at award shows, is a sumptuous feast for our eyes. Okay, she's not THAT bad, but her visuals always greatly improve on what is being served up, vocally.

Her rendition of Dark Horse at the 2014 Grammys was no different! Giving us Gothic goodness, the Diva certainly had me under her spell. The pole dancing around the broomsticks was something else though- good or not, I'm not quite sure yet. Even acknowledging the lethargy in her movements, I still enjoyed the whole spectacle- perhaps because I like the song.

Speaking of choreography, can someone explain to me what kind of dance move she was attempting at 2.25! Were her hips supposed to be moving, or was she just marching on the spot? Help!

[Watch] Katy Perry Continues To Be Out Of Tune @ 2013 X-Factor UK Final

Katy Perry, surely you should be improving with all the practice you've been having promoting around Europe of late. So why is it that your latest rendition of Unconditionally at X-Factor UK was perhaps the worst you've had of the song thus far?

Effectively, you're only shading yourself getting on the stage of singing competitions- this one being the final of one, no less- and not being able to consistently maintain a tune. Take some vocal lessons, toute suite! And if you already are, get a better teacher for heavens sake! That is all.

[ Someone is doing their darnedest to remove any trace of this performance from the internet- seriously, it's almost as hard as finding a bad Hallmark movie (which is impossible, I'll have you know). Below is a clip from the Daily Mail, which will give you a taster, but the full thing can be seen here.]

[Watch] Katy Perry Delivers A Shockingly Good Performance Of "Unconditionally" @ 2013 AMAs

After the out of tune performance of Unconditionally at the EMA's earlier this month, I wasn't expecting much from Katy Perry when she took the same song to the American Music Awards. But boy did she impress this time around.

Not only was the staging and the theatrical side of it beautiful and interesting to watch, but her vocal was actually much improved. The low notes did sound breathy, and shaky- clearly this song is too low for her range- but at least she was hitting them and maintaining the song's melody. The belts were also better, being confident and projected- if slightly forced.

I do wonder if my appreciation for this was artificially inflated by the low standard I came to watching it with, but even if that has happened, it would only be regarding the vocal. The performance itself was great by any standard! Right?
