[Review] VH1 Divas: Unsilent Night

"Never get your hopes up" is a phrase I mostly abide by. But knowing VH1 Divas was returning after a four year hiatus, I couldn't help but put aside my natural pessimism and be hyped after reading who was taking part. Silly me.

Titled Unsilent Night, the show was off on the wrong footing from the get go, being a celebration of Christmas and not the glorious Divas themselves. BOOOO, VH1! Still, like I said, the billing was enough to hold my excitement with Mariah Carey, Patti LaBelle, Chaka Khan, Vanessa Williams, and JoJo all taking part. Just thinking of the potential duets that combination could give birth to was almost tew much! Heck, the thought of Patti and Mariah sharing a stage again was reason enough for joy.

But it was all for naught. NAUGHT!!!!

From Mariah only appearing to promote All I want For Christmas (and not taking part in any duets and possibly lipping), to Chaka forgetting her words and being under the influence of something other than the Holy spirit, to singers I'm clearly too old to have knowledge of (See Teyana Taylor, Serayah, Bebe Rexha and Diana Gordon), Unsilent Night ultimately paled in comparison to past shows.

Next time just call it a Christmas event and leave the Divas brand alone, VH1. It'll be easier on my delicate, and waning soul.

Bah Humbug, bishes.
