Lorde Tributes David Bowie @ BRIT Awards 2016

Whereas Lady Gaga's tribute to David Bowie at the 2016 Grammy Awards was kinda panned -not by me- for being more hammy than authentic, a better reaction was elicited by Lorde who performed Life on Mars at the 2016 BRIT awards, yesterday. One person in particular who was happier with it was the icon's son, who called it "beautiful".

I'm assuming part of what made this tribute more palatable was the lack of dress-up and the involvement of Bowie's own band. With its simple staging and lack of theatrics, it will no doubt be argued that this was more about the music than the performer who took part. Me, I'd just say the tributes were in-line with the artistic sensibilities of the people who took it to the stage.

Though different, I enjoyed Lorde's take as much as Gaga's- but for different reasons.

Thoughts?
