We've officially now seen latest vocalist on the block, Ms.Ariana Grande, successfully cover the Holy Trinity of Divas. ( She's actually done this previous to now, but since I've started the train on this track, I'm going to roll with the flawed narrative anyway.)
Clearly a fan of Mariah Carey, Ariana gave the Songbird Supreme some shine first by recording the notoriously range-y Emotions for her YouTube channel. It was only a few weeks back we then heard her spot-on impression of the Queen of Vegas, Celine Dion, when she sat down with Jimmy Fallon on the Tonight Show.
And now we come today's video, where the legend that is Whitney Houston gets Grande-d. What makes this rendition extra special, though, is that the original writer and producer of I Have Nothing, the one and only David Foster, joined Ariana on stage. Thereby, tacitly, giving it his blessing.
Needless to say, Ariana covered the song, pretty much note for note, without issue. The full bodied resonance of Whitney was harder to recreate, but there was definitely improvements being made on that front, with Ariana's voice sounding meatier here than it has before. In fact you can compare this rendition to one she did at the White House last year to hear the vocal growth.
