Lady Gaga is not just a chameleon when it comes to the way she dresses. No, siree. This Diva is also chameleon when it comes to her vocal prowess. Just in the space of a few weeks she has tackled jazz at the Grammys, funk during a Stevie Wonder tribute, and just yesterday, at this year's Oscars, she gave a theatrical delivery with a tribute to the The Sound Of Music. Busy lady!
Measured, controlled and more head-dominate than her usual pop voice, Gaga shocked not only the famous audience present but- if my Twitter feed is a reliable source- many an average Joe sitting at home who are still sleeping on this Diva's vocal skills.
For me, what I loved most about this medley was how supported Gaga's voice was at all points. It demonstrated a solid knowledge of vocal technique that is miles above many of her contemporaries. Her vibrato was also pretty much perfect to me, and was the cherry on top of this polished vocal.
“Dear Lady Gaga, thank you for that wonderful tribute. Oh my God”, was what the legendary Julie Andrews had to say about Gaga's take on The Hills Are Alive, Climb Ev’ry Mountain, and My Favorite Things. And I'd have to agree.
Thoughts?
