We've come to expect the end of the year will bring about an avalanche of Christmas releases. (Wouldn't make sense at any other time of the year, really!) Already offerings have come from Idina Menzel and Ariana Grande, but today we see what the genre of "Country" can do with two live offerings from LeAnn Rimes.
From her seasonal LP, One Christmas: Chapter 1, the Diva debuted two of its songs during the annual CMA Country Christmas. My favorite of the pair was the exciting Carol Of The Bells, which found LeAnn showing exceptional breath control and stamina- with long running sentences ending in held notes- and beautiful use of her head voice. The performance received a rapturous cheer on conclusion, and it's little wonder- it was Stunning.
Some Day At Christmas, a Stevie Wonder cover, was a less showy affair. Here a direct vocal was given, with a clear intent on the lyrics being effectively communicated. It what a smart choice that allowed us, who haven't heard LeAnn in some time, a chance to get reacquainted with the familiar tone and timbre we first fell in love with.
Colour me impressed!
