Vocal Type: Light-lyric soprano
Vocal Range: 3 Octaves, 7 Notes And 1 Semitone C#3-C7
Whistle Register: Yes
Vocal Pluses: Elastic, bright and feminine voice that is full of frenetic energy- particularly when the Diva belts [Tightrope]. Her anounication is clear and distinct throughout the range and this, in combination with not being one for floral or lengthy melisma, mean her lyrics remain consistently discernible. Having a background in theater also bolsters the Divas ability to effectively emote.
Midrange is of mid-weight, darkish and carries the character of the rest of her range. It connects to the lower-range, which is supported and without the huskiness/fogginess that some have when pushing their voices to their lower extremes [ Mr President]. The upper part of the mid-range is warm and rounded with an undeniable sweetness to it [Locked Inside].
Excellent understanding of her voice means she can manipulate her belting range exceptionally. For the most part her belt is head-voice dominant, thus it is smooth and without texture. She can however alter the balance of her mix, giving her a palette of varied tones to play with. An extreme example of this control is showcased in Come Alive (The War of the Roses) where she imitates an electric guitar.
The Diva moves effortlessly into her head-voice, where she shows great control. She is capable of singing with an operatic tone, which is full and measured [ Cybertronic Purgatory ] but can make her upper-range more contemporary, being light and agile [ Harmonies in Many Moons].
Vocal Negatives: Her vocal styling can be quite wild and eccentric, and not to the taste of everyone
Thoughts?
This update had been sitting so long in my dafts I'd forgotten about it https://31.media.tumblr.com/8104a9e726c03dc0a5e21f74e4482478/tumblr_n4oml8Ix2I1tz7eyoo1_250.gif
ReplyDeleteMight wanna change the spinto-mezzo soprano to light-lyric soprano LOL.
ReplyDeleteLOL I was just waiting for Maroon to comment on this.
ReplyDeleteIt does sound like a belt!!!!!!! It's just a lot of vocal pressure LOL.
ReplyDeleteCould you possibly update Lea Mchele's profile too since even the web address is incorrect? but love this profile now solo much more !! thank you
ReplyDeleteI am sorry, but i really find her voice boring and idk...
ReplyDeleteWill Do- think that's a remnant from the old profile
ReplyDeleteHoly shit. War of the roses, I've never heard anything like that.
ReplyDeletedone!
ReplyDeleteyellow is dead!
ReplyDeleteREally struggled with the negative. Eventually just cut and paste the old comment because I honestly couldn't think of anything!
ReplyDeleteDoesn't she hit a C#3 in "Oh, Maker"?
ReplyDeleteYep. That places her at close to 4 octaves. She's only a semi-tone shy.
ReplyDeleteHer voice is really small and it can sometimes sound edgy and a bit irritating.
ReplyDeletediva could you please update avril lavigne vocal range profile since she has made improvements since you posted it, i leave you some videos for you to see: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sWMZnfVd95Y

I know that it's off topic, but DD (or anyone who is willing to do that), could you possibly pay some attention to Sky Ferreira?
ReplyDeleteI heard that she's trained in Gospel and Opera and has a 4 octaves range.
It would be nice to have a vocal profile of her here, if anyting, because of the fact she's not a kind of a singer you can hear every day. Her vocal and musical styling is quite distinctive.
I'm surprised her agility & melismatic skill weren't as thoroughly addressed. She's got a great deal of agility all throughout her registers, which is quite a tough feat to achieve. For most, it's either in the core, or where they resonate the most. Janelle? It's lower register, mid, high, head. That's beyond impressive, I think. In her rendition of Smile, she incorporated some intricate runs that were very agile balanced with accuracy. You see karaoke vocalists, namely Ariana, who attempt to execute sophisticated melisma (FAIL by the way) and they come out simple and disconnected, with a sloppy form. The tone distorts when she tries to do too much with it. At best Ariana only covers 4 notes in a breath which is still substandard, whereas Janelle easily covers over 9+ notes in one breath while maintaining the tonal quality, agility and form. At times she brinks the level of a Coloratura. She's definitely a skilled singer, and highly underrated. Some of the vocal choices she makes are very reminiscent to that of Beyonce.
ReplyDeleteshe has got a super agile voice, but I don't really recall her going in on the melisma. Will check out the song you recommended. Let me know if you have any more.
ReplyDeleteWill amend.
ReplyDeleteCan you please make a vocal profile for Taeyeon from Girls' Generation?
ReplyDeleteErm, her highest note there is obviously no higher than a B5 (though you can't actually hear it well), not an F#6.
ReplyDeleteThat G6 is impressive but not quite sure if that is whistle register and I wouldn't have counted that C7 as part of her actual singing range.

ReplyDelete*whispers* he dislikes avril lavigne's voice.........................
ReplyDeleteErm, the high notes here are all exclamations too.
ReplyDeleteHer pre-debut material she used melisma quite a lot.
ReplyDeleteher voice sounds perfect on paper....
ReplyDeletebut when i watch her i just feel something missing - it doesn't sound as impressive as you would think
i do appreciate the agility in her voice though
Holy shit, Come Alive is amazeballs! Especially the electric guitar part (is it really her????) and ugh, my jaw dropped... http://24.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_lu3la2BnfJ1qdmfwso1_500.gif
ReplyDeletemichael jackson does the same thing and those notes are included in his vocal range....
ReplyDeleteWell I personally wouldn't include them in one's SINGING range if they haven't actual SUNG the note. Any person could scream/exclaim a random note, doesn't mean they can hit/sing it with ease normally, it gives people the wrong impression that they have a wide vocal range when in fact they've showcased a smaller range when singing.
ReplyDeleteDivaDevotee, please do some vocal profiles for some classic divas who can sing circles around today's crop of female stars. Check out Mina, Caterina Valente and Maureen McGovern :)
ReplyDeleteYes to this profile, yes very much ;)
ReplyDeleteim not a fan, i own no songs and i dont have the time to get into her music (nothing personal it just hasent happned for me) BUT the electric lady cover art was every thing !. maybe sometime i'll give her a listen but i have a back log of singers to get into lol.
ReplyDeleteFinally a dog gif!!!
ReplyDeleteBig bag dog licking the pussy!!!!!!!! The inuendos in this shot!!!!!!! I cannot. https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/--wXObHfwMt8/U41MAHUnT6I/AAAAAAAAUjw/-QnPdcSs7FI/w400-h300-no/14+-+1
ReplyDeleteLOL at first I didn't see the kitty so... LOL!
ReplyDeleteI love that you updated this profile because I was like "Spinto!? Where!?"
ReplyDeleteMan thought she was a Mezzo Soprano.
ReplyDeleteWell nice to kno different.
I know this is Janelle Monae profile and god she's a amazing vocalist. I just can't get into her music for some reason, but can you update Rihanna profile. I'm not apart of her navy but she has improved a lot over the years.
ReplyDeleteQuality posts is the main to interest the users to pay a visit the site, that's what this site is providing.
ReplyDeletemy weblog: top mens cologne
I dont know why but i'm not that interested with her though she shows great talent and ability. Anyway what's with the wacky photo?
ReplyDeleteI got to rant. Janelle Monae is sooo gorgeous yet he picked that picture. Lol, look at her Electric Lady Album Art. DD always picks the oddest pictures for vocal range profiled and articles. My biggest gripe is the Vanessa Amoroso profile... As bad ass a woman she is, he picked the sweetest one Lol.
ReplyDeleteLOL i like DD's taste of the photos and i appreciate the addition of filters. But i guess we cant have it all
ReplyDeleteI like the filters, just not the photo choices from time to time LOL.
ReplyDeletelolz, i posted this on a tablet, so I had to make do with what i had already saved in my photo album. I didn't notice how wacky it was till you said that...
ReplyDeleteShe often sings too nasally from time to time, her timbre can sound rather fragile specifically when singing with an edgy approach.
ReplyDeleteThank you!
