Almost forgot about Free For All Friday today! Naughty, DD! Well here it is! ENJOY! :D
If you don't know the score, here be the rules:
- Try not to get too perverted- this site needs to basically be "safe for work".
- If somebody starts a controversial subject, try keeping it civil when dealing with it. If things get out of hand please flag the conversation.
- It would be nice if it stuck to music, but it's not a requirement! So talk about news, current events, how you're getting your hair done next time you hit the hairdresser! Whateves, really!
- No nasty comments aimed at other users.

ReplyDeleteI like the new lana del rey song
ReplyDeletehttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KuX_xwghhsw
I hate to admit it, but the song is growing on me...here's the official music video. Thoughts?
ReplyDeletehttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iS1g8G_njx8&feature=youtu.be
Such a great song! I look immensely forward to the release of Ultraviolence :)
ReplyDeleteOh DD has went for a big cat this time, its clearly serious!
ReplyDeleteBack to loving this right now....quite alternative and the vocals will probably not be to a lot of peoples taste but I can't help but feel uplifted when I hear this wee number :)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gqUJdcCjUIA
I've been watching/listening to these 2 performances a lot for the past few weeks.

Loving the Mariah vid, not a massive Taylor fan however! This is a pretty good MC live performance too :)

Snow leopard ATW!!!! I based a creature in my novella off of the aesthetics of this gorgeous creature.
ReplyDeleteHey guys! This is me singing I Know (Drake Bell). I wanna know your opinion. The audio quality is not god because I recorded this with my webcam. Thanks!

And my accent is because I speak spanish :)
ReplyDeletelove iggy, video could have been better, ariana looks 10. :)
ReplyDeletei dig cat lady's voice :3. she's a great lyricist, too. and she's pretty.
ReplyDeletehttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XvyMG0z0FZY
I didn't understand a single word she said. But I fell in love with her lovely voice.
ReplyDeletebaby's doing drugs :>.
ReplyDelete(perez hilton is a funny cunt-swatter)
such a majestic gif DD !. so since free for all friday seems to have descended into "OMG I LOVE THIS SINGER LOOK AT HER" who am i to break the trend !. i have HATED every single paloma faith has put out...second rate florence welsh hair wise and dull material but this...i can really get into this and above all my grandparents told me about it ! at 21 i have lost touch with the kids lol.
ReplyDeletehttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PaKr9gWqwl4
Just discovered this song because of my best friend's lovely taste for "Old" music as he refers to it.
ReplyDeletehttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fJ9rUzIMcZQ
Yeah, I watched that performance before. The climax was great. As for the Taylor vid, I think that was one of her best performances (i.e. used her limited range well).
ReplyDelete'discovered'... I'd love to live in your side of the world *_*. Lol, I can't think of anyone who isn't familiar with this. But really this song is a bit overrated. Their second album is the best and most underrated one.

"I’m told that our lives aren’t worth much,
ReplyDeleteThey pass like an instant, like wilting roses.
I’m told that time slipping by is a bastard
Making its coat of our sorrows.
Yet someone told me…
That you still loved me
Someone told me…
That you still loved me.
Well ? Could that be possible?
I’m told that fate makes fun of us,
That it gives us nothing and promises everything,
When happiness seems to be within our reach,
We reach out and find ourselves like fools.
Yet someone told me…
That you still loved me
Someone told me…
That you still loved me.
Well ? Could that be possible?
Well ? Could that be possible?
So who said that you still loved me?
I don’t remember any more, it was late at night,
I can still hear the voice, but I can no longer see the face,
“He loves you, it’s secret, don’t tell him I told you.”
You see, someone told me
That you still loved me
Did someone really tell me?
That you still loved me
Well, could that be possible?
I’m told that our lives aren’t worth much,
Passing in an instant, like wilting roses,
I’m told that time slipping by is a bastard,
Making its coat of our sadnesses.
That you still loved me
Someone told me…
That you still loved me.
Well ? Could that be possible?"

With love <3
Such a fabulous song and a truly great album too! You should check out the rest too ;)
ReplyDeleteIn fairness to Taylor I own 'Fearless' & 'Red' and actually enjoyed them, the live thing annoys me as she is rather inconsistent but when she does it right she can sound not too shabby. She is certainly not the worst out there thats for sure!
ReplyDeleteJust in case good old Perez didn't get the message across in the first ten thousand tweets lol
ReplyDeleteThis was the song that caught my attention. I went on to check all her albums. Pretty decent on a slow but happy day. :)
ReplyDeleteIt's the opposite for me. I liked it a lot the first time and it's going downhill ever since. Hahahah!
ReplyDeleteI caught notice of her when her second album was going around. I do think she's somewhat of a lesser Florence, but I don't think that's a really bad thing. She's got a unique voice and some pretty good songs. Unfortunately I haven't had the time to check out her new album in depth.
ReplyDeleteDefinitely a great Mariah video, and although she's not stellar yet, I'm always happy to see Taylor continuously improving and sounding more and more solid with each performance, as well as writing songs better suited for her voice and range.
ReplyDeleteLOOOVE.
ReplyDeletei usually need to hear about two or three good songs from someone to check out an album lol so here's hoping she keeps it up !.
ReplyDeleteI'm growing more and more fond of the new vibe this era has with it's lazy surf guitars and atmospheric sounds. But if we're being real, I'm gonna miss the low register drawl and gorgeous strings of Born to Die.
ReplyDeleteme running out to buy lana's new album !.

if there as good as this i sure will be ! :).
ReplyDeleteI'm a very album oriented person, so all I need is one bomb song for me to download all of their albums haha.
ReplyDeleteBut personal favorites of mine from Paloma (if you're wondering lol) include Picking Up The Pieces, 30 Minute Love Affair, New York, and Do You Want The Truth Or Something Beautiful? are personal favorites of mine. Her second album was truly great. She definitely has a grandoise vibe like Florence, but also a very soulful Rebecca Ferguson-like sound.
This reminds my favorite rendition of the song. I don't know why I always find the need to shove this specific one whenever someone talks about Hero. LOL!
ReplyDeletehttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BKcJ5dFLj2o
Good performance but that intro was scripted as hell.
ReplyDelete"I'm a very album oriented person, so all I need is one bomb song for me to download all of their albums haha."
ReplyDeleteOHMYGOD I'm the same; and it annoys me sometimes that a certain artist has a huge back catalogue and I can't decide if I wanna check out the best or download all of it! LOL .
IKR! But this version is really nice. Kept it smooth all the way through and didn't show off much vocally and emphasized the lyrics more.
ReplyDeleteI agree, because in the back of my mind, I want MORE of that one song that got me hooked, or else I'll spend the rest of my life wondering what wonders their discography has in store but I'll never get to experience.
ReplyDeleteDefinitely, and honestly sometimes, restraint from Mariah is one of the greatest things to hear from her.
ReplyDeleteME TOO! But I can't complain too much; while I didn't love the new stuff immediately; I'm already settling down. Apparently West Coast is making her more mainstream... so again; I can't complain!
ReplyDeleteUGHH I know that feeling so well! And if you can't find similar songs from the same artist you find similar songs on Google but it all turns out to no avail. :(
ReplyDeleteLOL weird.
ReplyDeleteAnyway, I don't think the video was bad, Iggy was definitely the high point of the video. It went bad when she started swaying her hips like she owned the set lol, girl stop
You've been blessed.
ReplyDeleteFrom the moment I heard the song I loved it. I can't wait for the album.
ReplyDeletehttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BW9Fzwuf43c I graduate high school this sunday. And the song has been in the back of my mind for the last few days. The way she sings in the song. She doesn't need big showy vocals here, all she needs is that expressiveness.
ReplyDeleteYESSS! Everyone's posting such good links. This song gives me so much nostalgia...thanks for posting it. I completely forgot about Hometown Glory.
ReplyDeleteNo problem. It's giving me all types of feels.
ReplyDeleteI first encountered her on VH1 and months later found Fall to Grace while in a music shop. I bought it and liked her sound. She not one of my top picks but she is good.
ReplyDeleteHiii, I hope none y'all think I'm a thirsty bitch although clearly I am. But I wrote a review on Me. I Am Mariah... The Elusive Chanteuse and hopefully I wanna write a review on Cher Lloyd's newest record too.
ReplyDeletehttp://mikey-pop.tumblr.com/post/87175398893/this-is-mariah-the-elusive-chanteuse
Trueee, I actually just download their entire discography with no second thought before listening. Illegal downloading for the win.
ReplyDeleteHOW CAN YOU. It's one of her best!
ReplyDeletehttps://31.media.tumblr.com/509b0be9a737c8a3a92ccd5c362ecb45/tumblr_inline_n4g11vBOqa1rlpk9c.gif
ReplyDeletetbh I'm still very obsessed with the song. The verses can get a bit boring, but that damn prechorus is way too good to miss, and the breakdown is perfect for dropping it low, and Iggy's verse is still pretty fierce.
ReplyDeleteAdele's just a complete master at emoting songs with her vocals. <3
ReplyDeleteI am really feeling this but then again I'm a big alternative fan.
ReplyDeleteSadly it's still a rarity despite her declining vocal health. Gurrl gotta calm down. Anyways, with great voice comes great responsibility. LOL! No idea why I just typed that random sentence.
ReplyDeleteShe really is. She KILLS it in this fucking song.
ReplyDeleteFun fact: Adele is the reason I found this site. I was curious about her vocal range one day (was somewhat disappointed but got over it) and viola, I've been here ever since.
Keep making beautiful music Adele.
i feel like thats how i view her now, there is something missing about her or she would be a favourite of mine but definitely someone i would happily listen too :).
ReplyDeleteIf we're talking about Adele; can I share my favorite song of hers? :)
ReplyDeletehttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mHZwD_-DaUU
Really? I thought this video was bad throughout. Iggy's makeup was terrible and the hair didn't compliment her look at all. -sigh-
ReplyDeleteI just like how she reeks of desperation on the pre-chorus. Baby I remains my favorite song from her... because it reeks of desperation. LOL. I have issues with desperation. -epiphany-
ReplyDeleteDefinitely. She is a good listen but something is missing. She has some interesting videos on her youtube channel such as.....http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b4vjDuphiRQ
ReplyDeleteI found this song a few months ago and ever since then it has become a song I like to listen to when things are really peaceful and calm. She is a fairly unknown artist but she is a good songwriter. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0szpa97VGFY
ReplyDeletePlease. I love this performance :)
ReplyDeleteThat's my absoulte favorite song. Lyrics are too damn emotional *tears up*
ReplyDeleteI think I did the same. I was definitely looking up the vocal range on SOMEONE, but I remember Adele's profile was one of the popular ones at the time and then I read every post in a matter of days haha.
ReplyDeleteWhat you call desperation, I call a damn good hook, Haha
ReplyDeleteI agree, some of the throwback mod looks were cute, but overall it wasn't a great fit for either of the divas, and I wish they went with something more modern and chic.
ReplyDeleteI think I have a new favorite of hers every few weeks or so. But I didn't know West Coast was making her mainstream, I know it's her second biggest hit after Summertime Sadness, but I guess if the audience is responding, let em have it?
ReplyDeleteThe original summertime sadness wasn't her biggest hit though. It was because of that Cedric guy who remixed it. West Coast is surprisingly pretty radio-friendly. Hence giving her more attention.
ReplyDeleteBTW, don't know if you've heard this version; but ABSOLUTELY LOVE IT. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aubM6QGkWmk
This is quite good.
ReplyDeleteI've seen tnaf live so many times, they are incredible!!
ReplyDelete(For anyone who's interested in downloading this fantastic track: It's available on her official Facebook for free, and all you need to do is like her page.)
ReplyDeleteWell of course Cedric Gervais was the key behind the success, and I feel like that may be why West Coast is doing so well too. I think a lot of DJ's have taken a liking to Lana, and some really fantastic remixes.
ReplyDeleteI like the radio mix and it adds a little something something, but I wouldn't say I absolutely love it. It's not exactly convenient being on my iPod, so I can't get links, but two of my favorite remixes that have popped up so far are the Camo & Krooked Remix as well as the Stint Remix. Very different vibes than the original, but really innovative and I highly suggest you look them up if you're interested.
For that gif alone its a high five!
ReplyDeletehttp://media0.giphy.com/media/1DfZvKmiELvtS/giphy.gif
Love this version too! How did I miss it....?!?
ReplyDeleteDidn't you went to sleep?!
ReplyDeleteWell, for shame!
I tried but my mothers bloomin' cat kept scratching at the door to get in. I don't let them near me when I sleep or my allergies would have me looking like Freddy Krueger come the morning time :(
ReplyDeleteHahahah! Well get some ear plugs! And with the Freddy Krueger comment... lOL!
ReplyDeleteI forgot to mention that so thanks for bringing it up. :)
ReplyDeletehaha i watched the anime it came from and the minute i seen it i knew i would save it for special album release lol.

I have a question. Is there a vocal fach called lyric-dramatic /dramatic - lyric (eg, lyric-dramatic soprano)
ReplyDeleteI know that lyric and dramatic voices sort of contradict each other but vocal fachs such as lyric - coloratura and dramatic - coloratura exist, so you know I was just wondering..
Ricki Lee new video!!! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KifF5OMDIsM
ReplyDeleteIt's a maudlin song the overuse of which has lead to my being tired of it by the late eighties. I therefor didn't think I would find a cover which would still move and impress me. But..I did.
ReplyDeleteHere's LeAnn Rimes (who SHOULD have a profile and be mentioned way more often on this blog about divas than she is) with the LA Gay Men's Choir, singing The Rose
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CaROl1j-xBY
Congrats!! College is gonna piss you off hahaha.
ReplyDeletewell that's old news......................
ReplyDeleteAt 14! (seriously, WHY doesn't she have a profile?)

OMG i love this version so much more :D Idk why the original does not grab me...
ReplyDeleteSorry but just had to add this one as well..

Diva, one of the reasons I visit this blog so often since 2010 (apart from it being quite reliable source of knowledge) is that you seem to love kittens of all sorts! I really enjoy those gifs! :D
ReplyDeleteI've got a question to, well, any person kind enough to give me a good answer. I'd like to find out what my voice type (do not confuse with range) is. I kind of suspect I might be a lyric soprano, but I am not sure - and I don't only want to know what my voice type is, I also want to understand why it is one way and not another. I've been searching for a reliable source saying how can you determine your voice type without success. Some websites give me contradictory informations and most of them state it depends on your voice range (i.e. if you range spans from there to there, then you're that voice type). If someone could recommend me a good reading on the subject (not exactly an article somewhere on the web, it might be a book as well!), it'd be very appreciated!
Hahahaha Thanks!
ReplyDeleteThe vocals are great too.
ReplyDeleteWho knew Hugh Jackman can sing? I fail to believe this guy has not been classically trained...I'm jealous LOL. He even hits a B4.
ReplyDeletehttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EvRtKMxc88Q
Well, look, Coloratura is not really a vocal fach, is actually a title you "earn" when you get the agility to execcute incredibly complicated fioraturas in all the parts of your voice, as well as jumping from one part to the other, so any voice that practises to get that agility will be considered a coloratura (although, of course, some voices will get that agility more easily than others). That's why you can find a coloratura lyric soprano and a coloratura dramatic soprano, but you can't find a dramatic lyrics soprano, because "dramatic" and "lyric" are terms to desing natural traits of the voice.
ReplyDeleteHowever, theres is actually some sort of dramatic-lyrics voice: The spinto voice. That's pretty much a voice that lies between the dramatic and the lyric voice.
Probably the people who saw him in his Olivier Award for best actor in a musical on West End winning performance in Oklahoma probably did. And there are the people who saw his Tony Winning performance in a musical on Broadway. And then there are of course the 37 million who saw 2009's oscar show opening number. ;-)
ReplyDeletehttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Terhj8mjPwY&feature=kp
This man can do everything. All I remember is him singing in Les Miserables and thinking "dang, this guy can sing". But I swear, he had to be trained at some point. That vibrato is no way natural talent. Opening act was alright, too flashy for me..
ReplyDeleteYou should add a link to a sample of you singing. I bet several people will come in and give you an answer quicker than reading a book on it. :-)
ReplyDeleteToo flashy for you? If you say so but for a show like the Oscars it was quite subdued I'd say. :-)
ReplyDeleteBut yeah, considering his career in musicals and going by his bio on Wiki, he probably did have some training alright.
I don't think it's easy to survive being in a successful stage musical without some training? Considering the amount of shows one has to pull off in that case.
I'm not talking about the Oscars themselves, I mean the performance. He did too much IMHO and honestly, the crowd wasn't moved that much. I love me some Hugh, but this Opening Act could have been a lot better.
ReplyDeleteHe had to have some training, I was confused a bit because my first time hearing him song was a few months ago and I was expecting some regular baritone type voice, but I was extremely shocked to see he pulled through and excelled in his Les Miserables Act.
And can I just say I wish I had an Aussie accent lol
He actually sang with Aretha 10 years ago at the Tony Awards and he held his own, he did better than Celine when she tried to ousting Aretha.
ReplyDeleteHer voice was spinto soprano in the 80's and early 90's, by the time of "the bodyguard" the tessitura began lowering, and by "Preacher's wife" her voice had deepened quite a bit and lost power to the point I'd call it a lyric mezzo-soprano. Smoking, pregnancy (miscarriages), drinking and drugs (of course) can really change a voice.
ReplyDeleteI think the song is revered because of how grand and over the top it is both musically and vocally, I mean, hundreds of harmonies!
ReplyDeleteThis?
ReplyDeletehttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xvC8Hjcm5b0
This was amazing. They all killt it LOL. Blossoms belting was off the charts.
ReplyDeletehttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WHUI5F40S90
I totally love this version. Got me hooked on it since the first time I heard it. I do like the original version too; but just not as much.
ReplyDeleteI'll be sure to check it out later :)
ReplyDeletePlease for the love of God do not call these two divas! They have not earned the title yet! LOL. Either way all the background stuff going on the in video made me dizzy. @_@
ReplyDeleteHe was immensely trained during his role in Les Mis. Well, according to wiki anyway. He went for voice training like every other day just for the movie. God knows how much he trained to perform it live -_-
ReplyDeleteHey folks! Ok so I've been wondering about my voice type. My music teacher for example told me I am a bass, but I've also been told to be a tenor. I often get told that my voice is reaally low. My range is F#2-E6 (-Bb6) (or F#1-E5, maybe I've been thinking in the wrong octave all along?). Can someone just check my sample out and tell me what I am and maybe also tell me where to improve and how? I know it's often quite flat and the transitions are kind of awkward, but I tried okay?! https://soundcloud.com/user592028323/your-song-cover
ReplyDeleteIt all paid off, but he had to have some sort of natural talent. Lol, selena gomez had training like every day for her debut album but look at her..
ReplyDeleteYou sound like a lyric baritone from your cover alone. How's your belting range and what's your tessitura?
ReplyDeleteYeah, I thought about it, but I also want to understand how do you determine one's voice type and it might be a long lecture. :) Having read many contradicting articles on the matter I guess it's a bit complicated issue.
ReplyDeleteUhm my belt leads me to an E5 and the overall tessitura is A2-G#5, I think... Was I singing in the 4th or the 3rd octave? I am extremely confused at the moment haha
ReplyDeleteThat's not a tessitura. Tessitura is where your voice likes to sit the most. There's no way your tessitura is A2-G#5, that could be your "performance range", but the tessitura is more like the 5 notes or the octave where your voice is most comfortable. For example, I can go all the way to F7, I've even gone up to C8 at some point, but where my voice most likes to live is Eb3-Eb4
ReplyDeleteNo, he sang "Somewhere", I think, when he performed with Aretha
ReplyDeleteYou can see the performance here, for some reason it's blocked on YouTube but they uploaded it to this Bulgarian website
http://vbox7.com/play:0a8d6f73
That last gif. Gah she's adorable.
ReplyDeleteOh well, I was confused because the tessitura on profiles like Stevie Wonder is written to be 2 octaves...
ReplyDeletethen I'd probably say G3-G4 :)
Yes, I was talking about the performance itself as well.
ReplyDeleteThe crowd wasn't moved? He got a standing ovation!
That gif is pretty great.
ReplyDeleteThe best way to discover your vocal type is to let other experienced listeners to listen to you. I don't really count as one, but I'm sure I can help you out a bit :)
ReplyDeleteHi guys, hope y'all are well?
ReplyDeleteSome of you might know me and some of you might not lol… My name is Pierre & I'm 19. I've been roaming around on the site for about a year now and yeah.. Basically I just wanted to share my cover with you guys & was hoping that someone could help me classify my voice type?
Excuse my body language lol and also I had a bit of a cold so my tone was a bit nasal…
This was my 20th attempt not even joking… 100% live & raw...

I happened to come across this video the other day. It shows the most technically skilled male rock vocalists.
ReplyDeletehttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F17eAfZ5Puw
The full list is on this website:
http://digitaldreamdoor.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=185
The term "rock vocalist" seems to have been interpreted as liberally in that list as the term "Diva" is interpreted on this blog.
ReplyDeleteThat's incorrect :) yes, tessitura is usually within an octave or even just half an octave
ReplyDeleteshe slays. Somehow her atmospheric lulling groans slay us all.
ReplyDeleteI think he is, as a baritone. He did musicals before he got famous I believe.
ReplyDeletehttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4v777SLrT-s
ReplyDeleteOk, I think you're starting this a bit high. I think a lot of us here love female voices, but we have to remember our vocal cords are not as thin. I think you're mixing a bit which is causing you to sound more nasal because you need to go so high.
ReplyDeleteBut I can hear some of your runs and embellishments are on, so you can sing. Can you try this about a full step lower? I think you'll notice the nasality wanes and you can give more to those belts!
Yeah, it seems questionable as to whether Stevie Wonder and Michael Jackson should be considered "rock vocalists." However, this countdown seems more credible than one you would find in Rolling Stone Magazine given that the men listed have supposedly been assessed by opera singers and classically-trained singers.
ReplyDeleteThe hair was a no for me, too.
ReplyDeleteCan we just for a second discuss how hot he is (for those into men here)
ReplyDeleteJackman? Even I can see he's hot. ;-)
ReplyDeleteHe is not bad; but not my type :( but I will take him as eye candy any day!
ReplyDeleteLet that be something you remember next time :p
ReplyDeleteSure. The Krooked remix has a cool breakdown that features snaps and this almost funk vibe. Whereas the Stint remix is sunnier and more electronic pop created by the producer because he felt like the song actually had optimistic lyrics.
ReplyDeleteMy bad, it's kinda my word for any female performers in general, even I know i'm misusing the definition. I would've said "chanteuses" but Iggy's a rapper sooo
ReplyDeleteI know this has been out for a bit now, but it's been one of my hot jams that's been on heavy rotation on my playlists. It's by Bebe Rexha, who wrote Rihanna's hook from "The Monster" by Eminem, which was actually originally a full song by her, titled "Monster Under My Bed," that she also performed a few times.
ReplyDeleteAnyways, this song, "I Can't Stop Drinking About You" is another feel-good feel-bad song similar to something like Natalia Kills, except with more electronic influences, as well as a really cool post-chorus that doesn't feel simply pasted in. And a video is to be released soon for the track.
https://soundcloud.com/beberexhamusic/i-cant-stop-drinking-about-you
And if anyone is interested, here's the original demo for "Monster Under My Bed," as well as a live acoustic performance. The production isn't as mastered or perfected as the Eminem version, but you get a taste for her writing and vocal style. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xKtDt_jqoOo https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GpI71T2AOx8
You are talented, but I think you want more of some criticism so you can grow and work on some things, so here it is.
ReplyDeleteYou move too much, which renders every gesture meaningless
Also, you are singing with a low soft palate which is causing more nasality than you would normally have.
You should also try to sing this in a lower key as your voice only seems to bloom as you go into in the extreme upper register and that's actually a bad thing, you should develop a solid middle voice for the health of the voice. And you are not supporting the sound as you've already developed a wobble.
I hear potential and talent though, but as I said...learn to support your sound, work on strengthening your middle voice instead of worrying about the extreme top, and as you go higher lift your soft palate or everything goes to your nose.
I listened to your cover and I'll give you some constructive criticism
ReplyDeleteFirst, nice warm voice
Second, it's always kind of under pitch, try singing with a backing track instead
Third, as you go to the upper notes your break is very noticeable and it turns into a flat out falsetto, which is never a good thing unless you are going for a yodeling sound.
So, breathe support, focus of sound and resonance, watching for the correct intonation and smoothing out the break so you can develop a mixed voice instead of breaking to falsetto.
Ouch with that SelGo comment.. lols.
ReplyDeleteIt is a catchy hook as well... just that desperation appeals more to me. Muahahaha. *evil grin*
ReplyDeleteThanks to DD I'm not liking Iggy as much as I could have... furreals if those tweets were really her... -dirty look-
ReplyDeleteI understand Rolling in the Deep is a fucking great song and deserves its acclaim. BUT
ReplyDeleteHometown Glory is such a mature, and beautiful song. It's my favorite Adele song and I really don't see anything topping it soon.
It's message is so beautiful and pure, and I feel like its SO underrated.
They actually were her. I'm disappointed too but I won't lie if her song Fancy and Work weren't catchy as fuck (aside from inappropriate usage of the words "retarded" and "rape"). It's like when you hear her you're like "cool" but then you get to know a person and it's like "hey you piece of shit."
ReplyDeleteOh I see.. Do spintos eventually end up as mezzos?
ReplyDelete<3
ReplyDeleteProbably a lyric baritone from the sound of your voice - however, you also switched to falsetto without showing us some of the belting range. I didn't hear a single note above A3 without falsetto. If you could find a backing track, and belt a little, I think that would give us some more information with which to process your voice.
ReplyDeletePrimohomme (as usual) is right - every assessment holds true. I myself have a problem in sounding flat (though I hide it with vibrato).
Oh, and in addition, I would work on your enunciation. However, if you start getting your sound to go forward and out, that could clear up on its own.
Your voice, as a basic instrument, is quite pretty. I'd just like to hear what it could do with some more discipline.
I think he trained to become a tenor - he's a natural baritone who always sang baritone, and trained his ass off to even be able to sing the lead for Les Mis.
ReplyDeleteVoice type is actually decently simple to find out, and it all has to do with two big factors:
ReplyDelete1. The length of your vocal cords (determining how high or low is comfortable for you - basic laws of physics at work)
2. The thickness of your vocal cords/the size of your head (determining how 'big' the sound is)
Now, the length of the cords will tell you if you're a soprano, mezzo, or a contralto. Obviously, as we can't just dive into your throat and say "Hmm...the cords are about 5.5 inches long - she's a high soprano", so we go with pitches instead.
In other words - where are you the MOST comfortable singing, and for extended periods of time? That'll be your tessitura, and depending on where it sits will help determine your voice type.
What also helps is knowing where the voice breaks are. If you know on or around which notes they sit, that'll help a lot.
As for the size of your voice (lyric, spinto, dramatic), that is also difficult to measure (though a singer with a big head is more likely to have a larger voice).
The challenge, again, is finding at which volume you are most comfortable singing at for long periods of time. A lyric would feel at ease in all delicate singing, while a dramatic, even when trying to sing a delicate phrase, would sound out of place - almost surreal.
Take Joan Sutherland - a fine dramatic coloratura soprano. When she went for big, dramatic roles in the bel canto repertoire, she soared. However, when she sang things like the Flower Duet, her voice was simply too big for the piece. It powered over everything like a speaker set to 11, regardless of how softly she wanted to sing something.
The point is, voice type is generally easy to determine (especially for matured voices), but until we hear it, we can't offer you any pointers as to what it might be.
I'm straight, but he's my man crush. LOL
ReplyDeleteHe's refined his voice pretty well then.
ReplyDeletePshhhhh they always give ovations to be nice. I'm pretty sure Idina Menzel got one for that awful performance of 'Let It Go' this year
ReplyDeletethanks!
ReplyDeleteThat is true but if you pay close attention, one can see the difference between the obligatory ovation and more genuine ones.
ReplyDeleteI read that crowd as being genuinely impressed.
That opening act came as a bit of a surprise as well I think.
But generally speaking, the Oscar crows does seem to not have much of an musical taste LOL
The songs which get nominated and the songs picked to be winners would attest to that one.
Anyway...you didn't like it, I did. Agree to disagree?
LOL I actually took it to be on par with those Rolling Stone lists. Notorious for irritating the hell out of just about everybody in their "inaccuracy" and lacking of names who should, by rights, be there.
ReplyDeleteIt's just some music forum blogger's list btw. The very fact that they spent their time making lists of artistic endeavors and artists already makes them, in my eyes, not exactly "reliable sources".
ReplyDeleteOh well then, I meant to say I belt up to E4. I thought I was singing an octave higher all along, I blame my pitcher !
ReplyDeleteSo, in order to enunciate better I have to sing more in the mask?
And thanks a lot :) I'm in a band and there you're only expected to be loud and belt a lot period hahaha
Thanks a lot :)
ReplyDeleteOkay, good, I'm normally used to really heavy instrumentals (my band), maybe it has to do with this?
I ordered the 'Singing For The Stars'-book you suggested me to buy, I hope it'll help.
Preach. I agree.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad someone shares the same opinion as me. While I do like him as a person; I however was not a big fan of his singing. LOL!
ReplyDeleteNot usually, the normally end up dramatics (actually very few people start off as dramatic).
ReplyDeleteI suppose lol, I was never an Oscar's person myself. I preferred Grammys.
ReplyDeleteAh I see.. Maybe that's why I was confused as to whether I was a spinto or a dramatic.. What about Patti Labelle? Did she start off as a spinto too?
ReplyDeleteDon't 2, 3 and 4 kinda roll into one? I'm not quite sure about the voice having "increased in agility and ability" but it's still there and she can still be great (on record anyway at least) when she's well-rested. I've still not gone out and got a copy of the album myself though have heard all the tracks but tbh I'm not feeling all of them, however some of them are really good.
ReplyDeleteI've listened to all of mariah's albums countless times and she does things on this album- agility wise- that I've never heard her do before. But yeah, I suppose you could roll them all into one, but then I'd have to come up with two more things and ....https://31.media.tumblr.com/4c40de9652da926f0fa20060e809593f/tumblr_inline_n0000l6Lki1rxpoel.gif
ReplyDeleteI have recieved the blessing with great honour.
ReplyDeleteYAY! My work here is done https://24.media.tumblr.com/a3304efeccf03114d5e1e489caba5ca4/tumblr_n4kxumtO3v1qcga5ro1_500.gif
ReplyDeleteI just hope it really is!
ReplyDeleteis it possible that her agility has increased?
ReplyDeleteMore?
ReplyDeleteBWHAHAHAHAHA LAMBS! The numbers have come in and Mariah has flopped HARD! Even flops like Ciara and Xtina have done better. This old hag is all washed up! Whitney would NEVER.
ReplyDeleteNo, increased implies less!
ReplyDeleteYou are right; Whitney sounds ever so beautiful on this. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JjklfWWpYFE
ReplyDeleteNo that would be decreased Ricky. Increased means more.
ReplyDeleteOpie.. I sincerely hope you are trolling; but then again you can't hear my tone of sarcasm on the net... lol
ReplyDeleteI guess you didn't get my tone as well. That "more?" was meant to be interpeted like "is it really possible to have more agility than she had before? because she could sing some really fast shit in the past"
ReplyDeleteBUT; maybe he was referring to her past few albums where melisma wasn't the main concern of hers!
ReplyDeleteROFL at a Mariah fan (of all people) coming for ANYONE'S live vocal performances.
ReplyDeleteNever forget dear:

Darling; ask anyone else to compare those two and tell which one was least worse. Go on; I dare you. :)
ReplyDeleteAt least she didn't break four times on a note like Whitney did on that last note... Oops!
I find it a bit disturbing that you're so joyous in the "shortcomings" of another, and so proud of a talent that isn't yours. You seem more dedicated than her fans, as I see more of you in this thread than them. Also, old? She's 44, Whitney was that age once, and you'll be that age someday (if you haven't already met or exceeded it), too, if you're lucky. I'd suggest pulling your energies into something productive, rather than this unhealthy obsession of Mariah, and Whitney. Cheers!
ReplyDeleteWhy are you disturbed? Nothing I've posted is any worse than what's been said on this site previously. I don't see you policing other posters comments. And for the record, I have a job, so I happen to be very productive thank you. It only takes me 5 mins to look up someones sales and post a snarky comment. So your comment about be obsessed is unwarranted. I suggest you have a seat.
ReplyDeleteHaha, I just showed these videos to one of my colleagues, and they thought that Whitney sounded better. :)
ReplyDeleteThere are dozens more of Mariah performances where she sounds a hot fool mess. Do not go down this road sir.
Says a lot about your colleague. Oh darling; even at her worst (like last year's All I Want For Christmas Is You) she is no worse than Whitney at her worst. Now it's not about selling anymore. She was constantly booed and people walked off her concerts and called her "complete rubbish" after her lifelong battle with drugs.
ReplyDeleteI don't have to go down this road; a lot of people are doing it already. You decide whether you want to accept it or not.
You live in the same vein of stans, all of/most of whom disturb me.
ReplyDeleteThe reason you don't see me policing other comments is because I'm much too busy to go out of my way and do so. I'm juggling 2 jobs, college, and starting up a language-tutoring program; do you think I have time to worry myself with every stan's psychoses?
You don't think what you're doing is obsessive? (Of course you don't).
Look at this way:
You've been waiting for a week to look up her first week sales, right after they're released you go to look them up, then you go here and come in here celebrating as if you've achieved something.
Tell me, does any of this seem healthy to you? I suggest you sort out your problems, and perhaps have a seat... at a therapist's office.
Indeed one cannot read tone Ricky. That is why you (both)should add a little indicator when employing sarcasm.
ReplyDeleteEspecially on a site which entertains so many people who regularly use English words and phrases incorrectly.
For instance no, as long as something increases, one doesn't say decrease. "increase less" still implies increase. Just less of it. ;-)
And I wasn't trolling either. I thought you simply mistook increase for decrease. :-)
But it's so much easier to just sue decrease instead!
ReplyDeleteAnd also; my bad!
I don't even care if this album sales are low. I love this album to death and just glad we got it.
ReplyDeleteI AM DYING @ "Cry" Like, she knows damn well she cannot sing this live at all. Love it tho
ReplyDeleteMeant "Heavenly"
ReplyDeleteShe did, on her home concert. Pretty sure certain parts were lipped tho.
ReplyDeleteYDKWTD is being released as a single.
