Christina Aguilera Delivers Gorgeousness With "Say Something" @ Wango Tango

Has Christina Aguilera given a bad rendition of A Great Big World duet Say Something, yet? If she has, I haven't seen it!

It was no different when they performed at Wango Tango, with the Diva giving effortless vocal. If this song wasn't an advert for the singer to stay within - or at least near to- her tessitura, than I don't know what is!

Beautiful!

Thoughts?

  1. Here's the song. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oN4qe8GQUzg

I was so scared she couldn't modernize her sound but this song is just YAS!!!!!!! In fact it's sooo 2016 and we're in 2014.... The tribal inflections give me life in the magnitudes. And lyrically, she stepped up her game. Like I actually like what she's singing. All I gotta say is Mrs. Jazmine grew!!!!

And her voice has gotten so much more resonant.... I won't go there though. I'll just post this link.

This pedantry is getting tiring. This is basic scientific knowledge learned in the first year of HS...

  4. I've listened to this song so many times... I'm gonna have to because as soon as it gets on the radio its going to be overplayed and I'm not gonna like it. That happens to all decent songs like Happy and All of Me.

  5. She sounded pretty decent here!!!! But I wouldn't be Montrez Fucking Rambo if I didn't have something bad to say about her... That dress made me cringe. She's pregnant and as soon as she turned to the side, she looked like a black bean taco. Now, there's no reason she should have worn a fitted dress like that... But sweet ass though.

Usually I loathe androgyny, but I think she is such a positive, amazing entity that I can't but like her. Beard and all.
And without beard she'd be so fishy anyway.

Why is legit vocal technique a bad thing according to you?

It wouldn't be Christina if she didn't dress trashy

  10. LOL, yeah through out her career, she's shown us some pretty trashy getups. LOL.

  11. What technique? I am not talking any "technique" here. I love how you always try to make it about that.

Anyway, in this context I was talking more about the style. He sounds too dramatic and theatre-influenced, just like most classical singers are. That is a damn hard thing to get rid of, innit?? He is not singing classical here, nor any of that cross-over crap, its a pop song and he doesn't necessarily sound 'pop-y'. Thats all.

You btw, have the same problem. You can't sing anything other than classical. Pop or rock are not your thing at all, they are all piss poor attempts and are unlistenable. This guy is at least 50 steps ahead of you in that aspect.

But I guess you'd never understand things like these. The listener/audience perspective. Simply because it goes against your very existence as a 'singer', 'student of music' or 'teacher' or whatever. These things will compel you to reconcile and destroy your rationalization, which is not going to happen anytime soon. We all know that.

Anyway, keep on with whatever crap you are going to post. The pointless GIF's/catty comments/trash-talk or whatever....blah....don't care. This is the first time I am responding to a message by you and will hopefully will be the last. I don't have as much free time on my hands to have pointless debates.

  12. I never said a scientific theory is fact. But it is based upon facts available and is discarded if available facts don't fit. Not the other way round. The way you are doing re the ESC.

And either way a scientific theory is not comparable to a popular opinion.

"consumerism at it's very best" LOL I am not even going to touch that.

Now suddenly it is my "phrasing which "seems Dutch"..or "American" I guess. How that is connected to my "political...thoughts" being Dutch or American or how that clarifies what those supposed "political...thoughts" are remains a mystery.

I don't know about Swiss democracy but if you are admitted to a Swiss Uni for the purpose of studying such a wide ranging interdisciplinary study with this kind of thinking, I can't say I am impressed with their Uni admission policy.

    ReplyDelete
  13. It's not actually. A theory is ,after the process described and for the sake of expedience, presumed to be correct until proven otherwise.
But it uses ,most of the time, established facts to explain a relationship between those facts.

She dresses like a woman and identifies herself as "gender neutral" but with a feminine name, so I just call her a she.

Coming from a Xtina stan, your opinion about my singing is worthless to me :) so you can shove it where your daddy molested you.
You are so damn stupid you also think you can judge the singing of someone like Renee Fleming, who sings about 1000 times better than any of your faves could ever dream of. And guess what. I do too. Because if even opera were the only thing I could sing that requires 100 times the skill that it takes to sing even the most challenging pop songs by any of the basic bitches you stan for. So, stay mad and basic.
And for someone who doesn't care, that was a pretty damn long message. 5 paragraphs? LMAO.

  18. In that case you should do me equal courtesy and I want you from now on to call me God. Thanks! :-)

    ReplyDelete
  19. More example of how you don't care what people think of your singing? ;-)

I think Alaneasable is correct though. Many classical singers can't really sing pop music because they are too trained.

And you know very well that is true. :-)

  20. Oh yes, Christina definitely has been seen in some trashy outfits.

I really want her to do well...idk why. Too much talent to be wasted

    ReplyDelete
  22. She is slowly turning into a contralto but not any time soon. Her belts are being accessed differently. I think she's had vocal lessons.

    ReplyDelete
  23. As of late, I have noticed that her voice is at its most comfortable when placed within the Contralto tessitura: D3 - E5 namely. Also, her passagio points are at Eb4 & Eb5 respectively now, similar to young Annie Lennox. Her Low C3's & C#3's are starting to carry a much fuller sound [even though she can resonate as low as Bb2] and her tonality is becoming "slightly" more androgynous, in both the low and mid regions. Albeit she is is still, essentially, a Low- Lyric Mezzo [her upper register is too bright], there's no doubt in my mind that she could mature into a Full- Lyric Contralto in the next 10 years or so.

  24. This guy really shows his age and lack of wisdom in his responses. I believe he has called everybody who disagrees with him a stan of some x singer and that is why their opinion is invalid.

He keeps bringing up Renee Fleming, about whom I only meant that her voice is ordinary, if anything. She sounds like people when they would mock opera.

And I am really not an XTina 'stan'. I am probably in the same boat as you (Opie), I see her for her obvious flaws but she has a special voice and is a terrific entertainer, something she naturally possesses that people like this guy don't have so they have to rationalize by dismissing their success and fans.

And I'd use the same argument that you did once, for all we know my favorites could be his favorites and he can never say such a thing without being completely wrong about it (....1000 times better than any of your faves could ever dream of, basic bitches you stan for etc.)

Arguing with people like these is like having a debate with a Theologian about non-existence of God. That person has spent thousands of dollars and several years of their lives on it, so if it all turns out to be meaningless, they're fucked, so they push back as hard as possible. But we know what makes sense. I guess we all should sit back, relax and let time take its course on them. Life and experiences fuck people back in the cruelest ways.

I am sorry for responding to you in a message mostly meant for him. I had to make my stand clear at some point. I consider him a despicable person (he may have talent who cares cares really? No one today takes shit from anyone else) and having arguments with him is like throwing stones at feces, you KNOW that flecks of it will fall on you as well.

Oh damn, now I feel bad about shooting using your shoulder. Seeing as how you are one of nicest people on this blog. Truly sorry for that.

    ReplyDelete
  25. LOL I know debating him seems pointless but I am just a sucker for debate. It's my weakness and I know it.
But I found I can neatly rationalize that by taking the stance that if his views are not argued, they might easily be bought lock, stock and barrel by the young and gullible. I feel something rational( well, attempted rational anyway) should be put up against his views. Not to convince him but for any undecided readers so to speak.

But like I say, that is ,though very much tied in with my deeply held beliefs regarding the importance and true purpose of Free Speech, just my way of rationalizing an action which could easily be argued indeed to be pointless and stupid. ;-D

Don't feel sorry for your reply. I enjoyed it tbh.
As long as my views are not misrepresented (and they weren't) I am very okay with you using "my shoulder" in such a manner.

Always good to hear someone considers me "nice" but I dare say many will disagree with me being one of the nicest people on the blog. Me included. I know I can respond in quite the irritated manner. Especially to certain people.
I agree for instance in your description. I too find primo quite despicable in his behavior and his views.

You however I quite like. You seem very rational and intelligent.(even if I disagree with you on Renee LOL)
Feel free to look me up on facebook (same tagname Opie Ever) and get in touch. I'd be interested getting to know you better. :-)

  27. Same Xtina. Her quiet notes sound fine, but she starts to strain when she belts. Still, as everyone says, much better compared to her previous efforts (and some of her contemporaries.)

That didn't make much sense. But sure, I would have no problem with it if that's what you really want. You are God, you should know that. And so am I and every living thing in this universe.

  31. Primo Uomo Assoluto14 May 2014 at 15:21

Boo, if I truly cared I would change the way I sing and the music I sing to please him/her. Do I? No, at the end of the day, like Monica Naranjo said "Only I can shit with my asshole, and only I can sing with my voice".

I simply find extremely ignorant to be so dismissive of perhaps the greatest musical art form that is opera. And it's not even about this particular issue but about when he insulted Renee Fleming.

Still, I want to know, what is wrong with singing with a legit technique? People who think training the voice gets on the way of singing is like saying polishing a diamond gets on the way of making it sparkle.

  32. Her Majesty OpieEver14 May 2014 at 15:22

    Cool! :-)
Just to explain the sense you missed...it makes as much sense for me to desire you to call me something I am not, as to call Tom something he is not. Just because I would like you to.

Btw I felt the god character wasn't bringing me the desired fame and recognition. Today we would like to be called Her Majesty, the Queen of England.

If only I had known earlier you were that easy though. Can we take the next logical step and you NOT calling people things they do NOT want to be called? ;-)

I asked a simple question and you were unable to answer it, instead you jumped on my dick like a crazy rabid bitch. If anything, that would render YOUR opinion invalid.
You don't have an appreciation for classical singing and opera, that's fine, but it is an extremely ignorant position to think that because you don't like it it is somehow worthless, even though it has survived 400 years and will most likely outlive any contemporary music made now.
And FYI, just so you realize the kind of fallacy you are saying, trying to insult a classically trained singer saying they can't sing contemporary music like an untrained voice is like saying to a professional ballet dancer that they can't dance like a stripper.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Her Majesty OpieEver14 May 2014 at 15:30

And if you truly did not care you would immediately fall into trying to insult people on unrelated and incorrect matters.

And haven't you heard? Only people with certain issues identify with their idols to the point where they feel a need to "defend" them when they perceive that idol to have been "insulted".

As for your last remark..once again you are responding to something Alaneasable never said.

ps the expression is "in the way of". Nothing to do with anything, just saying for future use. :-)

    ReplyDelete
  35. Primo Uomo Assoluto14 May 2014 at 15:31

No, you argue for the sake of arguing, as quite often you don't have a point other than being antagonistic. And you keep talking about being rational, when actually you often commit a great deal of fallacies, relying on personal opinion and personal taste instead of on empirical facts.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Her Majesty OpieEver14 May 2014 at 15:36

LOL You mean the point went over your head quite often. That is because quite often you don't read what is written but something you imagine instead.

As you did again here. Because I actually quite clearly stated I "am a sucker for debate" . As well as "(well attempted rational anyway)"
So that "no" combined with you repeating what I said makes no sense. Maybe you lost the plot once again because you were so busily typing away at your personal opinion???

  37. Primo Uomo Assoluto14 May 2014 at 15:39

Excuse me? I asked a simple question and he responded in a manner that was flat out confrontational.
You often speak about things without understanding the context, so here, I will illuminate you. Here is what he originally said:
"Her voice is really annoying to listen to. I guess some people just have technique to go after since they are not naturally gifted, and thus, 'sub-singers".

This suggests that technique is only for people who cannot sing naturally, which is an immensely ignorant statement. And THAT is what I'm protesting, the allusion that actually knowing how to sing technically well is a bad thing.
