Katy Perry Dresses Up Again And Again For "Birthday" Visuals...*Eye Roll*

Wasn't katy Perry supposed to be growing up with her new album Prism?! So what the saveloy is going on with the over-the-top video for new single Birthday?

Could it be that her marketing people know who are buying her music and are thus making the videos bright and wacky accordingly- despite the pervy lyrics? Whatever the case, this song is doing little for me and I'll stay waiting on the video for '90s house-infused Walking On Air.

I'll leave this one for you guys to get into.

Thoughts?

  1. As much as I hate Prism...this song is candy to my ears. Something must be really wrong with me. This is the only song from the album that I actually like so far. The music video...ehhh. Its pretty much the same stuff she's dished out since California girls. I miss "one of the boys"...

I actually liked it. Beats Dark Horse for sure.

  3. Ugh, that album! I almost forgot how the songs in which she was the only writer were lyrical gems. That was back when she had most creative control over her career.

  4. which songs are they? I'd like to listen to them because I quite like Katy's voice but her lyrics usually fail to get me :S

  5. I don't like the song and definetly this seems nothing like a mature album. However, I absolutely LOVED the video. I'm an unconditional fan of hidden cameras, TV pranks and all that stuff, and the old stripped woman was simply GOLD.

  6. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ga4YQXy8bXM That, for example. And to clarify when I say lyrical gems, I don't mean that they are revelatory, but that they're beautiful in their technicality and lyricism, not just hanging on overused tropes. Lyrics on the description box. Thinking of you is also quite pretty.

I agree and I do love Thinking of You, it is a very moving song and the video for it is quite compelling.

  8. I see what you did there. I see you.

  9. The Prism era has been kind of a mess to me in the same way that ARTPOP has also been. All the videos were messes, except Unconditionally, but the cheesy flower/fire effect ruined that video also. Birthday, while a very radio-friendly song off the album (translation: basic), it was honestly a really really weak single choice. And I tried to watch this video, but I didn't even find it entertaining at all, the only part that was remotely worth a chuckle is when she almost got hit by a car, although I'm kind of having a hard time buying that actually happened.

  13. I honestly like what Katy Perry's doing with her videos, they make me happy. And that's basically her purpose, isn't it? I mean, let's be honest; You can't expect Katy to deliver a heart-wrenching ballad with flawless vocals, we're over that. Katy is good at selling silly bubblegum pop, and that's where all the money comes from.

  14. Honestly if she never released the first album I wouldnt even bother with her. But I know an amazing songwriter exists somewhere underneath all of that bubblegum and cake...just hope someone can excavate her out of there.

Thank you! I need to make gifs out of these looks!

Callas had such style, so amazing. She was smart enough to surround herself with the most talented gays in the opera and fashion world, and they turned her into a goddess. On the other hand, Joan Sutherland surrounded herself with the trashiest and campiest ones (including her own husband) and they turned her into a drag queen. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gjnVkwYSFs0

  17. My bad. I thought there would be at least one person out there who made as many groan-inducing sly references like I did.

  18. I mean I guess technically she is growing up on this album.

  20. I do like doing them (I'm actually waiting for another fight between two certain people from the forum to post one I came up with the other day) it's just that this time wasn't meant to be that

  21. My favorite from the album!

  22. I would dare to guess one of those would be me? ;-)
If so, you are out of luck. I am so supremely uninterested in Katy Perry...I did not even check out that video. I have seen/heard one or two things and tbh...I don't feel the woman is worthy of even that little of my time and attention.

Especially not when I just found this free download Alison did for VanderBilt children's hospital music therapy program (written by one of the patients and the therapist)

She also got a song called "Brick By Brick" there only exists a live version at MTV unplugged, she didn't record it, but actually it's a shame, because the lyrics and her voice are really good in this one ! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bn4iuxQVQzY

  24. And I bet that you know who is also the other person I was talking about haha Don't worry though, the joke is applicable to any situtaion, although I'd much rather not to use it due to the situation not happening..

    BTW, beautiful song ^^

  26. OMG I love that show xD

  27. Basically what happened was that she tried to "mature" with 'Unconditionally' only to flop. After that, her team was basically like, "nope, no maturing allowed, bring in the bright colors and dumb videos!"

  28. katy's success is unbelievable so many number one hits and her internet presence is growing
but I seriously don't get it
she is a horrible performer who doesn't even bother trying to incorporate choreo
her vocals are so unreliable (there are times when shes bearable and times when it just falls flat)
her pop persona is nothing interesting at all - atleast rihanna tries to be dark and more mature
it just all seems so immature and commercial to me
nothing about her makes me think - it really makes me think that our generation is tone deaf and only willing to consume simple lyrics and visuals
if she had a killer singing voice I wouldn't be such a hater but cmon guys why is katy perry ruling the pop kingdom right now
literally anyone is more qualified than her
beyonce, gaga, adele, hell even demi lovato has a more interesting image and voice than katy

  29. "And I think it's everybody's duty to make themselves as beautiful and fit as they possibly can at that moment in their lives." No, thanks... I'd rather die in the ugly solitude.

  30. I disagree with that. I mean, I also care about my physical appeareance, but I don't think it's wrong to not worry about it. If the person feels OK with how he /she looks, why should he/she bother? He/she may have some other priorities. (Although, of course, a minimum of personal hygiene is a must, you don't want to make people faint due to smelling like "eu du armpit")

I agree, though, that the song doesn't seem to mean what DD wrote. I also think that it's about loving yourself the way you are.
