Looks like the Egyptian Gods have blessed Katy Perry with a gift of gargantuan proportions: Dark Horse getting a Dawn Richard makeover.
As excited as I was/am about the news that Danity Kane were working on a new album, I couldn't help be a little dismayed that it would probably put the kibosh on Dawn's solo output- which has been phenomenal so far! However, this remix hints to the Goldenhearted girl still releasing solo gems, despite the reformation of the group that brought her to our attention. And that's great news as far as I'm concerned!
Take a listen to Dawn Richard's experimental remix of Dark Horse, below.
So predictable in every way. Yet another template girl group, as their label probally said "there is no alternative girl group out there, let's clone Alanis Morisette x 3". :)
ReplyDeleteOh great! now I need to go listen to some Alanis!! THANKS A LOT!!
ReplyDeletehttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OOgpT5rEKIU
Maybe I'm musically ignorant, but IMO I like the original better. By far.
ReplyDeleteDon't be silly! We can't all like the same stuff!
ReplyDeleteI guess I'm being hard on myself, but I think the remix is an acquired taste lol
ReplyDeleteYou are not alone..
ReplyDeleteBTW your screen name is hill! I love it.
Ariana is using falsetto for 90% of her "whistle" notes. Not head voice, but falsetto. It is very POSSIBLE to be hitting all of those notes in actual head voice; any opera singers singing in the same range (C6-G6) is using full head voice, not whistle or falsetto. In fact, I've had a couple of classical soprano teachers who can take their full head voice up to A6/A#6. If Ari was using head voice, she would be incredibly loud and resonant on those notes, as opposed to soft like she is up there. Instead, she's using falsetto extension. Could be stylistic, but I do very much doubt she has the technique to be singing in full head voice up in that area.
ReplyDeleteHer whistle has only really been used LIVE in a youtube video and in an instagram video. The YouTube video is the one where she just proves that Emotions wasn't just an edited autotuned phony, and then theres an instagram video where she's practising harmonising over the high falsetto in The Way, with the caption along the lines of "my whistle is getting stronger!"
I liked the video. I don't think they're a template girl group, I legitimately feel like they're just three sisters that wanted to have fun and bust a move, obviously I don't think they were trying to impress anyone with Beyonce-level moves. And still I'm personally always for choreography, whether it's a little hip shimmy or synchronized snapping, I like the song too. I've always liked the band, but this is the first video that really just made me fall in love with them and reevaluate their album.
ReplyDeleteI'd definitely prefer the original version to bounce to in a club, but I'm all about this growing trend of chill electronic R&B in mainstream music. I like the subtle changes in the melody and the tasteful autotune. Dawn can't do much wrong by me.
ReplyDelete(And by the way DD, she confirmed that even though the Danity Komeback is happening, she's still working on her solo stuff.)
oh, thanks! and another question: was kelly clarkson's whistle during american idol really head voice? sounded like head voice to me.
ReplyDeleteThat's a coincidence, I am "Euro-Dutch-Italian-Afro-Sapiens-(possibly, seeing as I am "Euro") Neanderthal". :-)
ReplyDeleteMaybe I even should mention Greek in there someplace
ReplyDeletehttp://www.theapricity.com/forum/showthread.php?26693-Greek-foot-vs-Roman-foot-vs-Egyptian-foot
Haha, by that logic I'd be Ibero-Greek-Phoenician-Roman-Germanic-Arab-French-British.
ReplyDeletePS: Dang, I wasn't aware we had been invaded by so many countries o_O
Hahaha not sure invaded as a country counts. Unless one of your ancestors was picked or chose to be personally and individually invaded.
ReplyDeleteI am impressed if you can trace back Phoenician in your blood line though. ;-)
I could possibly add French and Germanic as well. Who knows?
But you forgot to add Sapiens and possibly Neanderthal to yours
More or less. It is "redundant" however that is what he classes himself as. Nonetheless, it is an actual ethnic term [strangely]... Oh well.
ReplyDeleteLOL.
ReplyDeleteI like this version. Not to say I don't like the original, haven't really listened to the original enough to truly say if I like it or not.
ReplyDeleteWell, being invaded means that they did the "you-know-what thing" as Natsu says, so I probably have all those bloods (And I forgot to add jewish)
ReplyDeleteI do like them, but you get bored of them reaaaal fast.
ReplyDeleteI don't see what's offensive about it. It just seems a silly pop video playing with certain visual elements of ancient mythology, that's all. And why would it offend a Muslim? Islam appeared a long time after Egyptian polytheism.
ReplyDeleteIslam appeared a long time after Egyptian polytheism, though...no?
ReplyDeleteWell, some believe there are connections between Aphrodite and Isis as well as the Minoan goddess Arihagne.
ReplyDeleteYeah, exactly. Then why is she including an Islamic reference and turning into dust/destroying it at a time when Islam didn't exist?
ReplyDeleteOffended? Welcome to my life! Do you even know how many terrible Spanish-inspired videos/films/shows I've had to see? In all of them we are all drunk ignorants who spent all the time singing and dancing sevillanas while running in front of a stampede of bulls, we work cleaning pools (In our own damn country), our only names are Antonio, Emilio and Carlos, and our only surnames are López and GarcÃa. And that's when they don't mix us up for Mexicans.
ReplyDeleteSeriously, if I can stand that, I'm sure they can stand this video which was meant to be anything but serious.
Thanks for clearing that up for me! :)
ReplyDeleteSO true
ReplyDeleteGood to have your input!
ReplyDeleteSeriously, I can't beleive some of the stuff people can do a pole. Perhaps I just have a dull imagination, but I wouldn't have thought certain things I've seen were even possible.
ReplyDeleteNonetheless, in all honesty, I am still desperately trying to figure out why on earth the "Jamaicans" that YOU'VE come across do not 'consider themselves' Black? That notion, on there self-hating behalf, is almost absurd and redundant. It's like saying that the primary native inhabitants of Africa (whether in the Eastern, Western, Northern or Southern regions) do not consider themselves African or "Black". 'Jamaica' is, by far, one of the most pro- Black islands in the Caribbean along with 'Antigua, Barbados, Trinidad, Bahamania (The Bahamas), Haiti, St. Kitts, St. Vincent, Grenada, St. Lucia' etc. - those islands are of, predominantly, 80+% West-African ancestry. I actually ran this by my Father and his side of the family and they said that they have heard of such a thing. However, I will tell you that "Colorism" is STILL an issue in many parts of the West-Indies Sasuke (as you may already know) and the African diaspora as whole, sadly and shamefully. :-/
ReplyDeleteAnyway, have you ever been to Jamaica? If you havent, do you plan on visiting?
DD, the Pole is my medium.... Don't get me started. You made me remember I gotta practice my reverse helicopter and the She-Kong.
ReplyDelete"Did I attack somebody here who said did not attack me first in some way?"
ReplyDeleteok i think this explains that:
"When i attacked you some time ago was because you said something I considered stupid" so did i attack you? regardless of what you said to me i didn't really mind it, but i was bothered at how you were putting your opinion to me in an unkind way. i would have appreciated it better if you have put that in a kind way. but i still stand by what i said that good enough is good for me in pop music.
Really? I wouldn't be surprised. Mythology is complex.
ReplyDeleteLol thanks
ReplyDeleteWowie! Another string to your bow!!
ReplyDeletehttp://25.media.tumblr.com/d97dd9bddb6c6395682de47a5a3e52b7/tumblr_mqrpnrPDGG1scj3gmo1_250.gif
I'm very well aware of that, from what I've experienced anyway. I don't necessarily believe there's any spite behind it, at all. I'm almost fluent in the language and there are other derogatory terms that regard Black people, negro not being one of them (I don't think).
ReplyDeleteWell, since spanish is not the official language from Philipines (Although I think it used to, am I wrong?) I don't think it's wrong to use that word, but whenever I hear it here I always think that they're talking about a kid.
ReplyDeleteIt is disheartening to know that it still exists. My mother tells me that in Jamaica there's a huge issue between that of the lighter complexion and the darker. It's almost the way it is in certain parts of Africa; lighter complexion people are deemed crimes. White people and Africans are not to mix in any sort of way. The product of the wrongdoers (lol) are often looked upon with dismay and utmost contempt. My mother says it's somewhat similar in Jamaica, however, it's not as big an issue there as it is in Africa.
ReplyDeleteWhen you think about it, there are those in U.S. who think that way also. Like for instance this Dark Skin vs Light Skin crap....what the hell -___- People are so quick to be like "I'm Light Skin" as if it means something. Like bitch, YOU'RE STILL BLACK wtf is that shit supposed to mean? lol
I've supposedly been there when I was younger but I've no recollections of it whatsoever. Would I like to go? Yes and no. I mean, I love the idea of traveling because I love adventure. I love to see new things. BUT, I absolutely HATE the heat. One time I spent the summer in Florida (and you know how hot it is there) I came out looking one of those tan ass losers you see on Jersey Shore. It's like I'm bread, right? Then you see the appearance after it comes out of a toaster. That's the best analogy I can give you lol Jamaica seems very beautiful but I don't know if I can withstand the heat, at all.
FYI sir. REGINE VELASQUEZ declined a lot of offers in HOLLYWOOD because she wants and only be in the philippines...
ReplyDeleteI am curious which sentences gave you the impression I thought you "unquestionably" believed that "theory" and those links?
ReplyDeleteThe faults I found in what you said however were indeed there.
I don't know in what kind of class you were taught that but I would suggest you carefully examine the sources of the things you learned in that class.
If you look Khemit up on the net, you will see where that notion actually comes from. It comes from the world of metaphysics.
Like I said, the American heritage online dictionary does not define "nigger" as "ignorant". I posted the definition it does give elsewhere but obviously, you can also go and see for yourself.
I btw did not call you "illiterate" anywhere in this discussion.
Jamaicans "unwilling patrons of dictators"? What do you mean by that?
Again "black" is as British as it is American and it were the British who for a long time ruled Jamaica. Not the Americans. Why would Jamaicans associate black more with American history than with their own?
I already said that I mistakenly thought these possibilities were yours but now found out they were not. That someone else came up with them.
If you wish to know the answer why don't you also consider the most obvious reason... it being the same reason Malcolm X objected to "negro" and started using "black" instead.
Because like someone here said, this whole Khetim story and etymology...it is not likely this is well known enough.
Or even better, if you know Jamaicans who object...ask them why.
Seems to me you are more likely to find the answer you are looking for that way than through fanciful metaphysical (and I am sorry but that is rationally what it is) imaginings some teacher told you.
Thank you!
ReplyDeleteim more offended that someone with her power and someone who has access to so many resources releases this bullshit
ReplyDeleteseriously she could have done so much better but i guess we cant expect more from her
just flabbergasts me that the general public buys into her crap
ive been accustomed to not expect anything but sugary visuals and simple bubblegum pop from her though
i just really wish the GP would move on and obsess about someone who offers more artistry and has a truly great voice
I feel you. I can't take a single trip on the Subway without getting at least a leg up on the pole.
ReplyDeleteGuuuuurrrrrrllll, my friend throwing a graduation party in July and she's renting a club with a pole...... I'm gonna wear my leather braided thong to the part and strip.... but their is gonna have to be some air conditioning because I don't wanna be sweaty. And I gotta get my body right because this 128 pound, 27 inch waist, tiny biceps, 5.5 pack, ribs for days shit I got going on ain't gonna cut it. I gotta get this body right gurl!!!!!
ReplyDeleteI'm gonna be an isntagram phenom....LOL JK.
But where do those problems stem from each other? We constantly pressure men to be more masculine and less like a woman. Feminists never claimed to want men to pay for everything and do everything, real feminists who care about equality want to break down gender roles and make it common place to split a check or to at least not "force" a man to pay, to make it normal for a women to court a man, for women to be able to be the moneymakers of a family and have men to be stay at home parents.
ReplyDeleteWhat feminists want is to allow women to make a decision on what to do with their lives, without the dictation of men. And for it to be okay for a man to not have to always prove his masculinity.
Yes there are extreme radical feminists who want to kill all men and want a matriarchy, but those aren't real feminists Because real feminists truly do want equality for everyone. But I also think it's ignorant of you that you refuse to open your eyes, learn a little bit and believe there's something different than what you want to believe.
And again, to your final comment. Just because you and I support equal rights to African-American people, does that mean we secretly want to be black people?
I'm sure there are.
ReplyDeleteYes. We are highly spanish influenced and even some words in tagalog are latin rooted..
ReplyDeletespanish used to be secondary language spoken until it was taken over by english speakers.. But that was over a hundred years ago.
Can anyone help me classify this singer's voice? Contralto? What is the lowest note she hit in the video. I got interested in the voices of Asian singers and my friend told me to listen to this singer, who is starting to gain popularity as one of the better singers in Asia.
ReplyDeleteThe lowest note she hit in the song was a 'D3' and the highest note she hit in the song was a D5, although it wasn't sustained - she peaked at that through a brief C#5 belt. There is a possibility (though dull) that she may be an undeveloped 'Lyric- Contralto', as her lower register/lower- middle range does posses a cavernous quality however her voice brightens considerably as she ascends the scale nor do I hear any defiant androgyny; I'd feel much more inclined to say that she is just a 'Lower- set, Full- Lyric Mezzo Soprano'. Where can I find other recordings of her so I can be sure? :-)
ReplyDeleteI like all the cool vocoder / auto-tune effects, pretty fun
ReplyDeleteBeautiful voice. I'd actually guess either lyric mezzo or even an underdeveloped soprano voice. But that's not truly a low instrument, just one that happens to have good low notes.
ReplyDeleteWe could say that Spaniards and Latins have some kind of rivalry and we usually make jokes about each other, but many of us aren't really xenophobic (Although, of course, there's always some exceptions) and of course, the case is the same the other way arround. I also have to say that many Spaniards have a thing against Pênelope Cruz lol
ReplyDeleteLOL One of those rare occasions we agree on something.
ReplyDeleteLOL How can anyone have a "thing" against a beautiful woma.........Oh hang on! Okay got it now. ;-)
ReplyDelete4 months ago you posted this " I speak spanish fluently"
ReplyDeletei am aure you "see no proof" for what you said. like I say..you don't read what others write and looks like you don't know what you write yourself.
I have now posted several quotes proving you are a liar. Move on darling because you are reaching new heights of foolishness.
Here's what you don't understand...why would anybody who claims to speak Spanish "fluently" need to use Google translate to write in Spanish?
Which is what Leith said you did.
And yes, if Leith claimed to speak Spanish and Tagalog fluently, I WOULD expect him to translate Spanish to Tagalog without the aid of Google translate. THAT is what "speaking fluently" entails.
I speak one other language and read/understand a third.
I know a tiny bit of Hebrew..enough to answer the phone and a number of random words and the "alphabet".
I also lived and worked in two different countries.
How I "seem" to you only underlines how foolish you are. It does not say anything actual about me. :-)
No sweetie, Spanish is the second most spoken language in the US. But it is not an "official" language.
ReplyDeleteThe ignorance is all yours babe! :-)
From Cia world fact book..."English 82.1%, Spanish 10.7%,"
...
ReplyDeleteLOL No, I didn't mean that AT ALL!! hahaha
ReplyDeleteThanks. This is her tackling a well known song. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cQAsXglIb5M
ReplyDeleteThis is also a well known song she covered.
ReplyDeleteI'm confused. This is her singing "My Heart Will Go On" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pXFKXLFIdJU
ReplyDeleteHer voice barely possesses that almost-Toni timber but a lighter, more smooth tone. I think she just does the "husky" and "darker" tone to make her voice seem more powerful although you can still hear it, just less than her other recordings.
Now that I've heard more of her voice, as I said above, she resembles more of a 'Lyric Mezzo Soprano' to me, albeit a small-sized one and with a lower tessitura. She has a very well developed lower register but her voice brightens considerably as she ascends higher into her mid-register - her 4th Octave notes, particularly above F4, are far from androgynous in quality to be a "true" Contralto nor does she posses an, overall, dark timbre, it is naturally warm and smooth in fact. However, as Primo also said below, she could very well be an undeveloped 'Soprano', perhaps a 'Dugazon'.
ReplyDeleteShe has a very beautiful voice nonetheless.
Omg, just found this I Dreamed a Dream performance by Ruthie Henshall and wow. She has such an amating voice ! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-p6OH7FoWoQ
ReplyDeleteYes. From the recordings that you've shown me, she seems the most comfortable belting between 'G4 - D5'. Her tonality is gorgeous, especially within her lower register - her C#3's/D3's are very solid and resonant. There's no doubt in my mind that she could belt higher than D5, it could just be a personal & stylistic choice why she doesn't however she does seem the most at ease, overall, when confined to the lower regions of her voice. She, naturally, sings within the same tessitura as the singers Brandy, Monica, Anita Baker, Kim Burrell etc. of whom are all 'Lower set- Lyric Mezzos'. She does appear to be a very chest-dominant singer also; I'd love to hear how her head voice/falsetto sounds. I like this Girl, alot...
ReplyDelete:-)
I know a few gods, vishnu, brahma, shiva, ganesha, hanuman etc. I should look more into it.
ReplyDeleteYeah I can see that. I'd imagine the roman empire played a part in that.
ReplyDeleteI feel the awkward dancing fits them. But I get this feeling they aren't singing the songs they want to sing...
ReplyDelete;-)
ReplyDeleteI don't think Muslims should be offended by it (and many have express that they aren't) bc she obviously didn't do it on purpose. But I really think her production team shouldn't have been so careless - no knowning they were using a religious symbol i.e. Allah (God in Arabic) as a prop. Especially when Katy Perry got mad at a Gaga for using crosses and offending Christians.
ReplyDeleteWell 'Allah' refer to God before Islam right? Hebrew has Elah. But Arabs didn't use that script during that time anyways.. :P
ReplyDeleteLOL I was wondering what she was doing with that pole too.. what heck was that all about?
ReplyDeleteFor some reason, I hate this remix. The artist does have a really nice, smooth voice but it's over the top.
ReplyDeleteThere is this narrow fogginess to her voice that erks me. It's hard to describe but I hear it more in her voice now that she performing, I even hear it in her speaking voice now. It sounds like trouble to me but I don't think this is a nre issue for Ms.Gande
ReplyDeleteits not really offensive it just shows how ignorant she is
ReplyDeletefirst that AMA performance and now this
it would be fine if the visuals were interesting but it looked cheap and i could've found everything in that video at party city
I think that happened pre Roman Empire.
ReplyDeleteWell, I believe any faith that demands submission instead of trust, obedience instead of love...cannot be of the one true God/Goddess.
ReplyDeleteI disagree with your assessment of her peak- if you're talking vocally, she peaked in Emotions, and if you're talking artistically, she peaked at Butterfly.
ReplyDeleteNevertheless, I don't feel that an artist should be made to retire even in such a situation. She's doing harm to nothing but her career and legacy, and because of that, it's ultimately her choice, is it not?
Right there with you...until the idea there would be "one true god(ess)" or any for that matter.
ReplyDeleteBut that figures doesn't it? Neither of us is big on "submission" and "obedience". LOL
They wrote new songs EVERY day for one year, and released an ep with songs they made from that time, then they got a record deal and made an lp with the songs from the ep + other songs, so yeah.. I believe they are playing songs they like :)
ReplyDeleteSorry to be so incredibly off topic but is no one gonna talk about P!nk performing "Somewhere Over the Rainbow" at the Oscars? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7pzwbywY9h0
ReplyDeletePlus I feel so sorry for Idina. the song was so fast-paced, she could barely breathe, therefore she hit a bad note in the end. Plus she looked like she was gonna cry on stage http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NO-ORfU7ids
I love Pink and liked this performance a lot but..I think her covering such a classic also showed up certain weaknesses.
ReplyDeleteThe Idina chick sounded horrible to my ears but that is a strictly taste matter and doesn't go to her technical ability (except indeed for that note at the end).
But I suspect the reason nobody talked about it yet is because it was only last night, this thread is not where one would expect the subject and I fear, like with all the good quality videos...these two will also soon no longer be up. Nowadays that is always the case with clips from big American Award shows.
And I see now even the site of the Acadamy Awards itself restricted the viewability to only US...big weakassed bunch of Wankers...the lot of them! ;-)
Possibly. I'm just guessing.
ReplyDeleteWell, that shows that you have no tolerance whatsoever and find it okay to offend people of different point of views regarding religion. As a Muslim, I wouldn't do that 'cause my religion (although it has strong views on people of different religions) instructed me not insult their religions/beliefs regarding religion in order not to get mine bashed and to be able to co-exist with them. Criticizing them respectfully is another matter, of course. Something that you seem to have no knowledge of.
ReplyDeleteThere's a difference between Elah and Allah other than the fact that one is an Arabic word and the other is Hebrew. Elah means God. Allah means the God.
ReplyDeleteI could cite several passages in which the Qu'ran calls for killing/punishing infidels, but I rather not. I think you can find them by yourself.
ReplyDeleteThere are some things I do like about Islam, such as the concept of modesty, and trying to keep a constant relationship with God by praying constantly throughout the day. Other aspects, I dislike.
I don't actively go and discriminate against Muslims, but when they try to say their religion is all about peace...uhm no...historically it isn't.
Depends how you understand the one true god/goddess. If one thinks of it as an anthropomorphized being sitting on the clouds...well, no. I don't agree with that. The way I think of the one true God is simply the source of the all that is. A concept closer to Gnosticism or Christian Cathar mysticism. An entity that is the source of all, constantly connected with us but at the same time something we cannot fully comprehend. In that sense, I do like Hinduism and their concept of the Trimurti, but especially their concept of Shakti, the mother goddess from whom all the other divine beings draw their power, who is a single goddess but manifests herself as all the other goddesses, different aspects of her infinite nature.
ReplyDeleteI figure you are perhaps more of an atheist, which I respect. I think nobody should believe something blindly until they are able to experience it themselves. I just happen to have experienced what I believe to be "God".
"I could cite several passages in which the Quran calls for killing/punishing infidels". I don't recall the existence of a passage in Qur'an that calls for the murder of/attack/fighting with infidels without stating that we should so if they only attack Muslims first. Otherwise, we should remain peaceful.
ReplyDeleteIslaim is about peace, but it's also about spreading the religion and letting people know about it so that (in Islamic belief) everybody would have had equal opportunities to be Muslims by Judgement Day, and if they hadn't become Muslims by then, the reason would not be that they weren't introduced to the religion, but because they were introduced and made the decision not to believe in it. In the first few centuries of Islam, some countries/kingdoms banned Muslims from entering their land to even introduce people to Islam and let them decide if they want to be Muslims or not. Their rules rejected the idea of letting their people know about that religion (or any other religion tbh. They wanted them to only follow their ruler's religion so that they'd be able to control them), and that's why, after repeated warnings, violence had to be used to against the armies of those countries to be able enter. It's not like Muslims grabbed swords and started killing innocent civilians in the streets. People who refused to join Islam had the right to do so without getting murdered and without facing any discrimination.
Some of Muslims' recent acts in the last century, such as 9/11, have endorsed violence and the killing of the innocent, based on a messed-up interpretation of religion, which helped ruin the image of Muslims worldwide. What I want to say is that not all Muslims support that. Those are just extremists who only represent themselves and not the religion as a whole.
There is a difference between tolerating and "respecting".
ReplyDeleteAnd the whole basis of certain western values is the freedom to criticize ideas.
Islam is an idea, a muslim is however a person.
It would help the cause of such non agreeing muslims greatly if they would freaking speak up. Instead what we see mostly is loads of muslims dancing in the street when news of terrorist acts gets out. We do not see Muslims en mass on the street protesting this. The way we DID see people in the west en mass protesting say Vietnam or the illegal invasion of Iraq.
ReplyDeleteyes, I am "more of an atheist". In fact I am a 100% atheist. :-)
ReplyDeleteBut I get what you are saying re different views of a "god" entity.
Basically her vocal range would be C#3-E5, 2.2 Octaves and a semitone?
ReplyDeleteBecause i learned spanish to tagalog translation since my native language is tagalog. I don't get why that is so hard for you to understand?
ReplyDeleteTranslation from spanish to my new learned language is not easy... And it won't be easy for you to translate spanish to chinese if you just learned chinese.
FYI I did not translate all of them, I translated some sentences for you to understand in english (because I did not know how to translate some words and sentences from spanish to english), It doesn't make sense for me to speak to you in spanish to tagalog... or tagalog to spanish... Do you know tagalog?
No, because I know my truth...
ReplyDeleteI happen to think Xtina's music is amazing, so if one persons opinion is different that does not make my music bad, since i also Love Mariah, Whitney, countless broadways, jazz, blues... So it does not affect me.
I am just telling you that he has every right to his opinion, as you have every right to dislike a singer yourself... If you and opie can voice your opinions out and opie coming of rude at times, I don't see why Primo is being attacked for his.
I dont kiss ass, I have told primo many times when he crosses the line. But this however is his right to voice an opinion, Do I agree? No. But I don't like how people tell him how to say things, if you don't like it then ignore it.
So my family speaks it fluently... I speak it in translation to tagalog.
ReplyDeleteWhat does that have to do with me being fluent in spanish or being able to translate spanish to english effectively?
Ignorant comment 1
A heritage is something I inherit because it has been passed on, Spanish is a language not only familiar with spanish people. I was born in the Philippines therefore I am a Filipino Born. Nothing about that comment EVER states I am fluent, or spanish is my mother language.
ReplyDeleteAlso, not everyone born into a full blooded heritage knows their mother language. Heritage has may or may not have anything to do with culture, nationality, and language spoken.
Ever heard of American born mexicans, Puerto Ricans, Chinese. who's family is fluent in that language and they don't even know the basics? This is not the 1950's anymore things have changed get out and get some culture.
Ignorant comments 2,3,4....
That's not what I was asking you, but nevermind, it wasn't something really important.
ReplyDeleteThe only moment I've seen Opie to actually come rude was when having arguments with Luiz, and even there, she wasn't as mean as Primo has been.
ReplyDeleteThe difference in how Primo and Opie express their opinion is that Opie remains close to the actual topic, while Primo insults the voicer (not even the opinion) appealing to qualities that have nothing to do with said opinion.
Honey, how many times do I have to repost the quote where you literally said you speak Spanish fluently?
ReplyDeleteBut okay..here it is again, what you posted 4 months ago : " I speak spanish fluently"
Yeah that Luiz..he could really ,as we say in Holland, draw the blood from under my fingernails. ;-)
ReplyDeleteDoll, your count is off, you have made way more ignorant comments than that one.
ReplyDeleteYou stated 4 months ago "I speak spanish fluently".
Why would you think in Tagalog, translate that to Spanish (if you speak Spanish fluently) and then translate it to English and then use Google translate to change that English to Spanish before you post the Spanish end result to leith????
If you did speak Spanish fluently, you could have answered Leith in Spanish without any need for translating anything.
You dear, seem to be one of those foolish people who will play fast and loose with the truth in order to win a silly internet argument.
And then when you are caught, you compound the first foolish decision with a second foolish decision...of trying to lie about the lie you were caught in, in the face of clear evidence no less!
Continuing to draw attention to your lie.
What a terrible image you formed in my head... I'm really squeamish for this kind of stuff...
ReplyDeleteTo be quit honest.
ReplyDeleteOpie is worst, because he tries to make logic out of opinions, and false observations, and conclusions about people he has never ever met, while Primmo has knowledge of music, he tends to attack people based on musical disagreements. Speaking of off topic, Opie saying I am a narcissistic person have anything to do with any of these topic? And he knows me personally how? Like I said... baseless off topic, attacks.
Primmo does step out of line but what he says has some facts behind it in terms of musical science. Does it apply to the listeners? No. Does pop require it? No. His taste are based on what he considers his music, anything after that is an opinion.
Opie is just as rude when people are on the opposition, One can be rude outspokenly and one can be rude passively.
Only thing is I laugh and don't take primos "attacks" as a serious thing. And people he has attacked has personally attacked him either there or youtube before.
I don't need you to tell me what I have read and experienced myself from opie. Primmo has never been rude to me and he knows i'm a xtina fan. He never says ALL xtina fans are so and so, there a group of minority that cannot accept his opinions and attack him.
Some of those opinions mind you have facts behind them. You just don't like how he expresses his opinions, but no opinion is delivered the same.
Again... I speak spanish tagalog translation.
ReplyDeleteLeith asked why I had to look up some spanish words in english.
That is because i don't speak spanish english translation fluently.
Leith and I WERE WERE COMMUNICATING IN ENGLISH-SPANISH. Why would I translate tagalog to spanish to english to spanish? When I could just do a short cut and get help to translate english to spanish?
Why the Hell will i make my life harder?
We were all speaking in English!!!!!!! Leith asked me about things you, and macabre were saying and how I was replying. And in order for me to translate I needed help to translate some things to spanish.
The conversation was more complex than you THINK. It was not jus a "Hola mi hombre es nicolet, como fue eres hoy? If her and I strike a casual conversation in spanish I can effectively communicate.
It was a collective conversation about not just what I said, but you and macabre. She actually reached out to me to explain to me things but i cannot communicate with her in spanish when i needed to translate all the english we were speaking to spanish. She was under the impression I could speak english and translate it to spanish.
But again you show more ignorance. And your the wise old lady on this forum???
Someone better decline that card quick.
Just a little note... I'm a man lol
Sweetie there you go with more lies. I said "self centered'' and I said so based on your words posted, that as long as one is not addressed by denigrating words oneself, one shouldn't care if it is done to others.
ReplyDelete"narcisissist is a whole different ball game.
And for the umptieth time..I am a she. And there is no "primmo" posting here. But both mistakes go to your poor reading skills.
And the one true thing here is when primo is what you too consider rude, you laugh. When I am what you consider rude, you don't.
Which is absolutely fine. You don't have to like me or be amused by me. But you do need to stop with the lying about me and my words.
And you need to stop being a hypocrite. If you want to end your post with preaching this to leith... "you just don't like how he expresses his opinions, but no opinion is delivered the same", you should stop complaining about the way I express my opinions.
That's real "classy" dear..some more lies and insults using my age but posted in a language I, unlike you, never falsely claimed to be "fluent" in. But in fact stated to not speak at all.
ReplyDeleteBut like you, I do know how to use Google translate so yeah, I did take note of exactly how "classy" you truly are cupcake.
Again the reminder..with a bit of luck, you too will be fifty one day hon. :-)
The adjective to "narcissistic" is Self Centered.... So actually yes it is related...
ReplyDeleteYou are bitter, And the ruddiness that spew from you makes me so uneasy to think, that such words from someone more than a generation younger than you, to the point where you need to put someone's "typing", "Reading Comprehension", "And lack of experience to test when you war most likely born here in an English speaking country more than 50 years ago, to a person who is barely 20 and been here only for 10. So no at this point it's not much of an opinion but blatant ignorance and disrespect to me and the struggles one faces communicating with people that are close minded, and uncultured, and judgmental.
So if you expect people to speak and communicate as well as you without the thought of language, and cultural barriers then you are the one that is preoccupied with your own affairs, without sensitivity to another who was not raised or born in the same country and language you speak. That is "self absorbed"
Speaking of self-absorbed " I am smart" a quote from you.
Do you another adjective to narcissistic? CONCEITED
I never complained about your opinions, again... I complained about you telling Primmo to be nicer when you need a taste of your own humble pie...
Thats like me eating meat and telling you your cruel to animals for eating meat.
"Don't say this, "and don't offend people" WTF are you doing?
so YOU are the Hypocrite, you like to self reflect, maybe your going trough mid life crisis? That you need to argue with younger college age to high school girls to feel youthful, there's nothing wrong with being past 50, but a 50 year old acting like a a catty high school girl is NOT a good look for any woman.
Yeah BTW... As you can see with the translation it actually is span-tag tag log english, it's not a proper spanish speaking dialect.
ReplyDeleteGoing on translation and reading a few lines does not make this a translation.
When I am 50 I will not be a hypocritical, uncultured, close-minded, insensitive, Bitch.
So Trying to offend me with my non native dialect, actually does not nothing, when I can speak 3 languages and still learning english. at 23 that to me is great!
What I am offended about is trying to explain that to a woman who is past her prime and more than half her age to dying and is still a close-minded, uncultured and ignorant woman who "thinks' by demeaning someone's english and communication somehow makes her any smarter or better.
You would think nearly in your mid 50's you would have experienced life, culture, and people a bit more.
Honey you aged physically, But mentally I can't say for sure.
Yes I speak spanish fluently... Is it my mother language? no
ReplyDeleteHow does my fluency cross over to interpreting it in english fluently?
It was not a question of wether I can speak spanish or not, The question was Why I translated english to spanish...
If fluency to you means I can speak it to another spanish speaking person, then yes.
Now how can I be fluent with someone who speaks english and spanish? When I don't know how to translate many words in english?
Wrong choice of the word "fluent" on my part. Let me change that.
I can speak Spanish, Tagalog, English, and Greek. I just cannot translate spanish to english at the moment and not very well with Greek...
I however can translate spanish to tagalog, and speak spanish to a lot of spanish speakers "fluently".
So if anyone wants to speak to me in spanish please note this message because this person who is obsessed with what languages I speak, and how I look wants me to be clear... I wish I was born speaking only english in that case I can also be a know it all, and make fun of people's English to make myself feel better about myself, Because diva devotee is a place where I know I'm more intelligent than the teens and college kids. I wish I was in my mid 50's because the things I learned in 50 years the kids in their 20's have not or experienced. I am too much of a coward to actually put my brain in action with other people my age because I am scared to realize how stupid and ignorant I really am. I am so wise! and smart that i cannot even have a culture sensitivity to other's alike, because I got nothing else to say I just make fun of the obvious ( their english). And make up crap about people's personality (even though i never met them) To make myself feel sane. (Because women in their 50's argue with youth). And that makes me mature... Right Opie???
I really apreciate the effor you put into writing your response in spanish, but I didn't underestand a thing, I'm sorry! ^^U
ReplyDeleteFunny your girl Opie did!
ReplyDeletePerhaps you need to freshen up your spanish???
And just a few days ago you were denying ever having said you "speak spanish fluently". Requesting me to show where you said it. Hon, your spine must be starting to hurt from all that twisting.
ReplyDelete"fluently" to me means what the English dictionary says it means.
Again, the issue was you needing to translate whatever language you think in ( for as far as it can pass for thinking) into Spanish via Google translate in order to reply to a Spanish guy in Spanish. NOT you needing to translate Spanish into English.
And again with the combination of ageism and hypocrisy, doing everything you complain about, and the lies.
Because
- where did I ever claim to be "mature"???
- who says I don't engage with people of my own age?
Intelligence btw has nothing to do with age. There are several people here I have no doubt are as smart as I am and yet are younger than you are.
-My criticism has been on your arguments as much as your lack of comprehension.
-I have always "plenty to say" on every subject.
-I was not born nor ever lived in an English speaking nation and my English is mostly self taught. (the cultural sensivity issue lies with you here, assuming you are the only non American/British poster here)
And I didn't make up anything. I drew an obvious conclusion based on your ACTUAL words. And that conclusion went to your VIEW hon, not your personalty.
- I stated to be smart but I NEVER stated to be "wise"
-and you don't seem to be able to decide whether I do what I do according to you because i want to be "sane" or because i want to feel "youthful"
As for the accusation of "bitter"? Hon, you just posted what amounts to the same hypocritical, lying, ageist and full of baseless assumptions load of tripe twice. ( i figured why bother responding twice therefor. Just the once here will do)
I'd say you, to me, seem a hell of a lot more bitter than I ever did babes. :-)
As much as I think pink is a great musician...
ReplyDeleteI found myself more entertained with Idina's performance even though she was having an off day.
I FEEL like Pink was going trough the motions of singing but not actually emoting it, like she always does in her own songs.
But she was technically the best that night, Even Bette had an off day.
It is not like Idina, and Bette to be so OFF. I suspect the band and orchestra were not that great at following the singers original composition and musical timing.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wpOBL4apzL0
ReplyDeleteI gave up, too. If we think of it, her voice was sort of an anomaly; she could quickly and easily switch to full-voice singing in alto or soprano range, and she was not one to ever not utilize this in her 20s.
ReplyDeleteThen she'd record albums in this time, using all the range she possibly could because that's what separated her from nearly any other vocalist ever (except Lisa Fischer--but she doesn't even seem to be able to change her timbre as much as early Mariah).
Her voice was doing too much for too long too often. What we hear now is most likely multiple takes, melodyne or autotune, lots of equalization, etc.
To be honest, I don't even think Mariah in her beginning was ever "all her." If she sang high for a while, she would raise songs like "I don't wanna cry" live because her lower began to get weaker. Vice versa.
Maybe it's true what a musician sai to me, above 3 octaves is just not very usable for the human voice for long periods of time.
Yeah, it also has a lot of studio layering if you listen even closer or with headphones. She's. actually. using. cd eq. and expects us to believe that her somewhat despodent looks are her putting her all into it as her hands do more singing than she does.
ReplyDeleteI love ha, but she is just getting damn comical with these lippings.
I dunno; i like to say this to myself at times, but Mariah's decline was probably one of the fastest in music history for female pop vocalists.
ReplyDeleteSure, Mariah with a nearly a piano's worth of range and piccolo-like dexteirty were hard, but her voice went from powerful and nimble to coarse and strained.
The same woman who slayed Tokyo came back not more than 2 years later to reveal her struggling with an upper she often dubbed.
I don't know why it was but the decline in nearly anyone's voice didn't occur that quickly, not even Christina-has-almost-no-techical-concern Aguilera.
I don't think so. Mariah is a great manipulator and often kept enough gimmicks to get her over with often times great musicality.
ReplyDeleteBut she will still whistle in odd places, whisper, and then lip. To most on this site, we see the cop out, but most people are so wowed by the demonstration that they don't notice or care too much unless it's really obvious.
What is her problem is this boring ass song where she sounds like she went througj Ariana's trashcan to get some demos she wrote for herself in 05.
I love her, but this is boring melodically.
What's with the aggression? So what if Aretha did lip once or twice and that person was wrong?
ReplyDeleteI really just don't know what is with these facial expressions and theatrical movements she keeps on doing and has been before the past 10-15 years :/ I don't know whether this was lipped or just heavily (and badly) dubbed but it looks like one or the other for sure.
ReplyDeleteHopefully she will use her voice and make some good music, unlike plain jane mariah
ReplyDeleteLOL Not even I can agree with describing Mariah as "plain Jane". That....is just silly talk.
ReplyDeleteher lyrics are terrrrrible and she oversings everything so you cant even understand what shes saying
ReplyDeleteWhich has nothing to do with the term "plain jane".
ReplyDeletePersonally though I find her lyrics not particularly good, I wouldn't call them "terrible" and I have no trouble understanding her.
I think she is, for her actual present abilities and in how far she actually manages to deliver, dreadfully over rated these days but I still do not think "plain Jane" is a very apt description for one of far from plain looks or presence or style.
This is just clearly not under any circumstance a "plain Jane"..
ReplyDeleteI guess I just don't find her voice or her way of singing interesting
ReplyDeleteWell, I can understand that. Though I think her tone is gorgeous, I am not a fan of her material or style of singing either.
ReplyDeleteI am just saying..that sentiment has nothing to do with the expression "plain Jane"
Something about her belting, puts me off. I can't tell if she has vibrato or not, it's very murky and thick. She also seems to not be able to incorporate vocal runs while belting. This girl also needs to work on her chest voice, ASAP. Sounds like a foghorn. Having such a light voice, I guess that's too much to ask for, but I do look forward to her using head voice more, and maybe some upper belts a la Mariah. Alas, the mouse can not roar like lion.
ReplyDeleteyeah I'm serious! but there's a recent video that she belted an Eb5 in her performance of Pyramid....this was after she came out. sad she doesn't belt higher than that note that much anymore
ReplyDeletehttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uY6-DolH_KA
We're not talking about the past. Its all about the present. And how Mariah's voice became deteriorated haha
ReplyDeleteThey both sound feminine.
ReplyDeleteYears affected Mariah's voice. It made her voice sound tired because she abused it too much. Unlike Regine. who knows her voice more that anyone could know. She knows her limits, that's why until now, her voice is still magical.
ReplyDeleteAnd that's the TRUTH.
Who would like to shout for 25 years? Godbless you and your inane mind.
ReplyDeleteYes.
ReplyDeleteNow that's awesome!
ReplyDeleteYet PRESENTLY Regine still remains relatively unknown outside of her own country, is not widely considered one of the world's greatest voices and has about 1/100th of the global impact Mariah still has a vocalist and an artist. Besides, we're talking about them overall, not specifying past or present or future, where Mariah would sstill rank above her.
ReplyDeleteWow, the Philippine industry? What a significant impact. Lmao
ReplyDeleteRegine is no Coloratura....
ReplyDeleteYes, yes, go on your little spiel. Mariah doesn' have a voice anymore, that's been accepted for a while. At her peak though, she'd have blown Regine out of the water.
ReplyDeleteAnd that's the truth ;)
Probably this is the truth. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CJMJ4E6F9TQ
ReplyDeletethere are better recent performances than this one. try her world tour video in brisbane. she slayed whitney's "saving all my love for you"
ReplyDeleteCheck this performance of Charice..
ReplyDeletehttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=67B86WhBvXk
I think her voice is really easy to listen to, it's generally very pleasant. She's definitely a solid soprano voice though, the natural placement of her voice robs her belting range of resonance. All she really has to work on is her diction, which is more of an artistic choice. For a pop singer she has chops for sure.
ReplyDeleteAriana performed The Way for a minute and then Problem at iHeart Radio. Her dancing for problem was a WORLD apart from the previous form. She isn't hella awkward this time. Vocals werent perfect but still strong. Enjoyed it immensely.

»In a mixed review, Diva Devotee stated that the song was catchy and that Ariana's vocals "are both very light and airy but also full and resonant, with some instances of whistle register at the songs climax,"«
ReplyDeleteWikipedia quotes ya, honey, congratulations! But honestly... this is extra falsetto/hv, not whistle, which actually reminds me of a wannabe singer x-tina, who loves faking whistle with extra high falsetto (this is the only thing I really enjoy about her clumsy acrobatics) The same with Beyonce here
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WjidXy0uz_g
which, btw, you still haven't included, as well as her lower notes, with G#2 being at the very bottom, I guess.
I find Ariana closer to REAL X voice (not raspy-bluesy-etta-crap) than Mimi, but that's just probably me. Anyway, love the fact, that she's getting closer to finding her style, love light lyric soprano (she's like a non-operatic definition of that term). And I never really got this "power" obsession and people liking Adele, Lovato and others with awful voices. I tend to like singers with darker belt,
up to like B4 and then I prefer brightening the tone. I think out of powerhouses I truly admire only Florence's & Whitney's voices. Sorry for being a bit off topic.
whats her vocal range in problem?
ReplyDeleteTo start off, I would like to say that Ariana is one of the only 5 (known) singers to be able to use those whistle tones. Even others who can use it don't necessarily have the skill to sing Emotions. By the way, Ariana's album isn't called Daydreamin', it's called Yours Truly
ReplyDeletecan you name those "only" 5 singers?
ReplyDeleteIt was originally going to be called Daydreamin' though wasn't it?
ReplyDeleteYou're probably eating your words now. She has a huge presense in the United States recently.
ReplyDeleteNot really. Because I was talking about the situation 2 years ago.
ReplyDeleteAlso she still is not all that big outside of US. Simple check on wikipedia of the worldwide rankings her singles achieved will show you that.
i think she's trying to shed her so called new mariah image https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kNxKXt_Xx2A&feature=youtu.be&a
ReplyDeleteWTF! (dont hate me) why are you people talking about christina grimmie and christina aguilera here!?!? this is ariana grande's page not christina grimmie nor christina aguilera!!!!! #THINK
ReplyDeleteariana is the best singer right now..
Guys please stop comparing ARIANA GRANDE to anyone! please stop it! I know Ariana said that being the mini or the next Mariah Carrey is a blessing and and honor.. And yes it is.. It also makes us "ARIANATORS" proud of her. And someone compared her to Christina Grimmie. Yes christina also has a great voice but please Ariana, Christina and Mariah are different!
ReplyDeleteAnd stop comparing Someone to Anyone/Someone(hope you get it haha) We are all different from each other! Why cant someone understand that?
They say that Ariana is the mini Mariah Carrey. but.. There will always be ONE ARIANA GRANDE!!
ily ARIANA!! have you guys already heard of problem? download it now on itunes if u havent.. :)
#nohate
i hope you guys understand it..
ReplyDeleteIt's not wrong to compare an artist to another, and it's not always an insult either, and we'd be lying if we said Mariah Carey wasn't an inspiration and influence to Ariana, as she's said it herself.
ReplyDeleteWe can compare if we want to. I agree that the Grimmie comparison is off.
ReplyDeletehttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gbEvGJQ5IYk
ReplyDeleteWATCH THIS SHE BELTS A Bb5? IDK OR A F#5 @2.29
I seriously think this article needs to be relooked at. It has been over a year and a half and her voice has improved tremendously.
ReplyDeleteAriana Grande definitely has a Mariah-like quality to her sound to an ear unfamiliar with both singers, however, her voice is definitely a lot different than Mariah's. Mariah's voice is textured and more comfortable at a lower tessitura than Ariana's whose voice is more typical of a soprano's. Another thing to remember is that there is no point in comparing Ariana and Mariah, and trying to figure out who is better, that is merely subjective. Mariah clearly is a more established artist overall, and her songwriting earns her points in this category, however in terms of singing ability, both of their techniques have some major flaws, and that is common in pop singers. It is no coincidence that Mariah's voice has declined over the years and that is proof enough that while she may be one of the most talented singers and artists out there she is far from being one of the best technical vocalists.
ReplyDeletePlease don't go throwing around operatic terms and giving them to pop singers. There is no actual proof that aside from basic vocal categories (soprano, mezzo, contralto) that these singers are coloraturas, lyrics, etc. These terms are mostly only applicable when the voice is produced in an operatic sense, and singers that seem one thing while singing without this proper production may seem one thing, but are actually another. Another reminder, Lyric singers (as we only give the terms to opera singers), of any category, can produce more sound than any pop singer could ever produce so when you say "it's uncanny" for her to produce the sound she does, you are proving your ignorance in regards to both vocal classification and technique. Secondly Mariah Carey's does not effectively mix most of the time, and even if she has the technique to do it, she doesn't, and instead relies on belting unhealthily, which is in a large part why her voice declined. In all honesty I'd say that as pop singers their techniques are far from flawless and harm their instruments. Still I'd have to say that while not to everyone's liking, Ariana produces a more consistent and properly supported sound than Mariah Carey does.
ReplyDeleteLOVE this song, and love the dancing :)
ReplyDeleteAre we not going to talk about the elephant in the room?
ReplyDeleteAt her worst she is still better than 95 percent of pop singers now...
She has five-octave voice
ReplyDeleteWell, besides the fact that it looked as if she could BLAST out of that dress at any given moment, she looked good...
ReplyDelete#That'sAll.
oh, thanks! and another question: was kelly clarkson's whistle note on american idol really head voice? it sounded a bit like head voice. i might be wrong, though.
ReplyDeleteis it possible that she's using head voice to hit those notes? i know it's definitely in the whistle range (which is supposed to start at around a c6 iirc?), but it sounds more like head voice than whistle register.
ReplyDeleteOh it's most definitely edited like crazy DD. This has been under production for like...idk...a month? Mariah definitely had the BET team edit her like crazy. Did she sing live? Im hoping she did. But Im also not gonna say she did. I mean its possible the vocals are live but just edited now...but that's still to a lot of people misleading which I guess is true.
ReplyDelete*buzzer* WRONG. Whistle register counts if the notes can be sustained and controlled. Any note that can be controlled is considered part of the range, meaning that she has a 4 octave range.
ReplyDeleteThis is so true. Sad.
