Better late than never, right?

If you don't know the score, here be the rules:

  • It would be nice if it stuck to music, but it's not a requirement! So talk about news, current events, how you're getting your hair done next time you hit the hairdresser! Whateves, really!

My friend Daniele (he's a celebrity in Italy) singing his cover of "Let it go" from Disney's Frozen. I like his version 100 times better than Demi's.

  4. A 14 year old Alison Krauss singing and playing. This is with the band who sent in the tape which got her signed that same year. I think it's pretty impressive singing and playing. (Especially the last minute or so)
Also the stage presence was impressive for one that age.

  5. Do we have a Nicole Scherzinger vocal profile? She's amazing! Amazing vocals (Preference may deem it so) and she has a degree in theater/arts. Amazing singer in my opinion. Here are my top three performance by her:

  6. Amazing! That was supported and held for quite some time. I wonder when humanity will desire these voices and not the rubbish that have kept humanity for the past decade.

  7. Is Lara Fabian really a soprano? She's always had such a luscious timbre to her voice (some consider it "muffled"). But the things she can do are very soprano like. I know she's actually classically trained, but can someone explain what type of soprano she is? I've seen lyric and coloratura, which I still don't hear even when she uses her head voice.

  8. IDGI, she's GORGEOUS, has a really good voice, and is good on stage. Why does she flop so much?

It's like the world is a cruel joke for this bitch, lol.

i like her voice but its a little thin and girly for me but its no denying the girl can sing

Her low register is really her only weakness. Her voice is rich, but there are other rich voiced sopranos such as Renee Fleming and Anna Netrebko. Her high C and D ring like those of a soprano. She can sustain phrases around F5 over and over with ease and climax on Ab5. When singing in a classical placement her voice sits comfortably between A4-A5 like that of a lyric soprano. If she's a coloratura voice, I'm not sure, she hasn't really demonstrated much intricate agility.

    ReplyDelete
  15. I agree. It's just a shitty lyric video.

  16. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zbZknB7njxU What do you think of this 2 ladies ? They are just amazing !

    ReplyDelete
  17. In my opinion the girliness in Tori's voice makes it so interesting. And somehow I never get sick of her runs, although she does overuse them. Something I also love about her voice is the Janis Joplin vibe she gives me in her belts. Idk I'm just obsessed with her.

    ReplyDelete
  18. There are many reasons as to why amazing vocalists flop. The number one logical reason is their producer is horrible. Their advertisement team is horrible. And their over-all team is horrible.

PS: They don't take charge in their debut album and the albums that follow. They worry that if they release the music that announced the Golden Age of the Music industry, they would flop because they see people like Miss Cyrus getting number 1 hits when singing about "you know what" to top it off with horrible live vocals. And they think they should follow in their footsteps. They have to be exposed to Golden Age music at all times such as Ariana and Tamar who are quite exposed. They're singing about "you know what" except they do it in a fashion that's plausible to everyone. And they're getting number 1 hits.

    ReplyDelete
  19. I do agree. That timbre to her voice is just flawless and that CONTROL! Man! I never knew such a singer existed anymore. lol

    ReplyDelete
  20. Have you heard the demo version of this song? I think it's absolutely gorgeous and even more haunting than the album version.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Superfruit literally gives me so much life every week. I wish they'd make daily videos rather than weekly.

    ReplyDelete
  22. I personally love them, I didn't catch on to their debut album released in Sweden, but "This Is..." was so perfect, sugary dance-pop perfection. I thoroughly enjoy every song on it although highlights include Girlfriend, On A Roll, and Then We Kiss.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Wow, her voice hasn't changed much over the years.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Someone introduce me to some good soca or reggae music... I'm dying to take a crack at the genre. Also, I want some good indie artists to add to my illegal download list...

    ReplyDelete
  25. I agree, she's gorgeous and has so much talent. Unfortunately I feel like most the songs on her debut album didn't have any definite hooks, thus no radio hits, and no big exposure for her.

EDIT: So I don't know if you live in the US or not like me, but I was surprised to just find out that apparently her debut album was actually not released in the US, in fact, aside from just two singles, I don't think she's had any material released in the states at all, which I'm a little shocked, since she's from the US and PCD was pretty big here. But that would explain why she didn't seem very successful to ME, critics called her first album a commercial success, so I guess that kinda answers that.

What do ye all think of Linda Eder? I've always liked her, but now I've been really getting into her and buying her albums. To me she sounds like a Barbra/Judy type of singer with an extended range, she's amazing.

    ReplyDelete
  27. I'm actually curious, what qualifies as indie? Because I've heard multiple definitions and I'm still not sure on what it exactly is.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Yes. The album was not released in the states. (I do live in the states) Since critics heavily indulged on Miss Scherzinger's debut album, I don't think Scherzinger wants to risk having a "flop" in the US. I think that she's just experimenting and I think it worked. It almost topped the UK charts and other charts around the world. She just released a classical song (I forgot the name) and it's beautiful. I bet she's going to venture out into Broadway sooner than we think.

    ReplyDelete
  29. To my knowledge, its simply music from an artist who is not signed to a major record label. Like... They are an independent venture. As far as the particular sound needed to describe it as a genre... I'm not sure... It's so much to the sound... Kinda like all the different flavors of R&B... But I never really thought if indie music as a genre. More like a way to pursuit music. I hope I'm clear. I suck at explaining stuff.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Thankx!

No, I don't really hear anything that intricate, either. Tone can really confuse me sometimes.

She's such a good demonstration of how good classical training can help in any genre.

There's a video of her at a conservatory and the instructor asks her to hit the same note over with "more mix" each time. She hits it with the same force as say a Gospel singer then it becomes almost faint but pretty and still very audible.

It's like she has a gauge that allows her to mix as much as she wants, whereas Celine or so seem to have to normally default to a very heady tone.

She does this a lot in "Dream Within" as well, which is just spellbinding. I think she does revert to a more "heady" tone if she's tired/aging as recently she's been using a heady delivery, which is so resonant that no one really cares to fault her for it.

Lisa Fischer seems to be doing the same these days. But it's amazing to see how these women can belt in so many different ways. Most pop singers (especially males---I'm guilty of this as a high baritone singer) have one way of hitting high belts: loud/forte lol.

    ReplyDelete
  31. So I completely understand the independent/non-label aspect of it. But it just seems weird when people use the word in the place of a genre, because I mean, anyone can make any kind of music without a label, right? haha

    ReplyDelete
  32. At first, I'd say indie really was more based around independence from labels, but it's seemingly acquired its own soundscape and delivery.

I'd say the key (or as close as possible to it) is the lyrical delivery, which is usually metaphorical and heavily interpretive relative to other genres. This can be easily heard in Florence/Bon Iver.

Aside from that, a lot of the indie genre seems to keep its "independence" from major labels by introducing rare or unpopular production schemes.

Lana Del Rey is a good example of this. She uses "Wall of Sound" and even some very odd inclusions. For example, the siren like sound effect on her songs is actually an autotuned bird chirping--a loon. She also uses an autotuned kettle.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Starting to like Lana Del Rey more and more. An exquisite voice embodied by a beautiful woman. That haunting voice and the music is just too much. I want more! "C-c-can you hear me?" I want more!

    ReplyDelete
  34. Girlfriend and On A Roll are my favorite as well :)

    ReplyDelete
  35. That explains a lot actually, because I always wondered huh, why haven't I heard of her at all here? But I guess it was just surprising seeing she's FROM here. But it's understandable with all the criticism and such. As for the classical song, would you possibly be referring to Memory, her collaboration with Il Divo? It's not really classical as it's their style of operatic pop, but I haven't gotten the chance to hear it yet, although I do expect that it's gorgeous knowing them. (:

She's already done a lot of theatre work. I recall her playing the Role of Mimi on a production of Rent, as well as anniversary events. I've heard rumblings across the internet about her going on Broadway, or maybe an off-Broadway show, but I'm not entirely sure whether those are legit talks or rumors.

    ReplyDelete
  36. I definitely understand the lyrical delivery, I've noticed so many artists beginning to use enigmatic, metaphorical lyrics nowadays.
And thank you for including the bit about Lana's bird chirps and kettles, that's actually really intriguing and it's pretty cool to know that now i guess haha.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Hey! Don't you be dissin' Miley now! ;-)

    ReplyDelete
  38. But her vocal style sure did. :-)

    ReplyDelete
  39. Yeah. I was surprised as well when i first found out Nicole is actually from Honolulu, Hawaii. Her voice is truly gorgeous and I do hope the Broadway rumors are indeed true. Although being under-rated as a vocalist, Nicole has been performing non-stop songs deemed one of the hardest songs in the world to sing. I love her raspy tone (Although it did a fortune to her voice) that she inputs to her voice. Then about four days later, she performed "Don't Cry For Me Argentina" and her voice was smooth, elastic, and powerful. I think she's one of the rare ones like Mariah who knows their voices more than critics.

    ReplyDelete
  40. Toni! That husky, deep voice of yours is something else.

    ReplyDelete
  41. I agree. Although... why do the boys act like that? And why did the other guy say "Call me!" It's quite weird.

    ReplyDelete
  42. I don't think I could handle Scott's sexiness on a daily basis. Hell, I'm already having trouble handling it on a weekly basis. He's just so *hmpf* and his voice is probably even sexier than his jaw if that is possible lol

    Don't judge me lol

    ReplyDelete
  46. No I haven't. I will look into it though. Thanks!

    ReplyDelete
  47. It's an F#6. Sounds exactly like the one Christina Aguilera does in "Soar".

    ReplyDelete
  48. She's definitely a coloratura.

    ReplyDelete
  49. The dude above who explained it kinda changed my perspective a bit... It seems to be shaping into a genre of its own but it is so broad, I don't know how to pecieve it.

    ReplyDelete
  50. Thanks for the info. Also, have you ever seen a common loon or yellow throated loon? They look like ducks but are sooooooooooo different.... And gawd can they fly fast or what. They are like giant hummingbirds... Very short, high profile wings but extremely high wing loading. As a result they require tons of power to get into the air so they flap at feverish rates. Combined with their streamlining, we are looking at a creature that cruises through the sky at over 60 miles an hour. Very interesting creatures. I envy birds period.

    ReplyDelete
  51. I couldn't judge you at all for feeling the same way I do.

    ReplyDelete
  52. I'm not exactly sure what you mean by why they act like they. I just think they have big fun personalities. Mitch probably said "call me" as he noted before, the guy was cute, so he was jokingly flirting haha.

And I'm pretty sure a big majority of people don't know who Fifth Harmony is. They don't have THAT much commercial success yet, and their music is a little more geared towards a younger, "Radio Disney" friendly crowd. And Better Together wasn't even a single sooo.

    ReplyDelete
  53. On somewhat of a music related topic, I've recently been having this issue that my iTunes deletes all of my songs, not the songs that I've downloaded off of iTunes itself, but songs that I've uploaded from my files and CD's. Luckily they're still in my computer files, and I've googled a way to get them back into my iTunes without having to go through each individual folder.

But I've noticed that this issue has been happening more and more frequently, so I'm wondering if anyone knows what's going on, and how to stop this from happening again.

    ReplyDelete
  54. I've always thought she had a great mezzo voice. Seriously underrated and comparable to Barbra IMHO. Her vocals on the Jekyll & Hyde soundtrack are just brilliant!

    ReplyDelete
  55. Primo Uomo Assoluto29 December 2013 at 04:38

In her latest album "Le Secret", she has several songs in which the vocal line goes up to E5 and F5 and higher, but I think she is not belting so heavily as part of an stylistic approach, because french people don't really care much for belting, they like soothing more melodic sounds.
And yes, Lara's register coordination is better than Celine's, much better. As proven by their respective versions of "The prayer".

    ReplyDelete
  56. Have you guys heard Lea Michele's new song "Battlefield?" I like it even though I think reactions seem mixed on it. Here it is so you can judge for yourselves: http://www.justjared.com/2013/12/27/lea-michele-battlefield-song-lyrics-exclusive-premiere/

    ReplyDelete
  57. her control is pretty darn impressive
funny cuz there is a video of her auditioning for american idol and simon said her voice was annoying - and the girls voice isnt for everyone but theres no denying she can sing

    ReplyDelete
  58. DAMN 14 years old
most of the artists in mainstream industry today cant even sing/play that well even if they're well into their late 20's

    ReplyDelete
  59. Indeed! :-)
And to think..that's Bluegrass she is singing and playing. That's also very much her interpretation rather than imitating how others sang that song.

    ReplyDelete
  60. I personally like it myself. I'm glad her Broadway-honed phrasing won't be affecting too much of her debut album ("like a can-nun-bawl"). It's a good heartfelt slow burner, nothing groundbreaking, but touching enough and not just a basic cookiecutter ballad. And it's penned by Sia so you can't go wrong, and luckily Lea doesn't seem to have the curse that all artists get when they try to imitate Sia so closely. Although I also think it's gorgeous when you can hear Sia's backing vocals in the last bit.

  72. Okay so once Mitch tweeted that he and Scott were married, although I'm not entirely sure myself if it was a joke or serious, since they never talk about it in their videos and always refer to themselves as friends. Mitch is definitely open about his homosexuality though, and I read all the time that Scott is openly gay, but I don't wanna be 100% sure until I hear it from him.

But Mitch (in their video with DailyGrace) did say that for Halloween he was gonna be a "lonely drunk homosexual man, oh wait that's everyday!" so I assume they're jokingly married.

    ReplyDelete
  73. They actually are amazing live though. I got to see them in an acoustic show over the summer, and they sounded exactly like the studio versions of their songs, no straining on the higher notes or any notable blunders. Harmonies were also on point.

    ReplyDelete
  74. I think it's because of the maturity and strength that lie within Nicoles timbre and they are kind of required for a song like that.

    ReplyDelete
  75. Is she one of those people that can just add grit when she wants? Sometimes, I think she's straining a bit, like in "And I am telling you" with Sam, but then again, it's never a "bum note" like you'd expect from a real strainer--just very :ugly" sounding at times. But then again, "And I am telling you" is not supposed to be a pristine vocal.

Her opera voice slayed me so hard. I was not expecting that from her when I first heard it.

I just hope as she's approaching her 40s, she isn't forgotten about in mainstream because she never got it "big" solo "young". That's what Osburne was saying about Sam.

    ReplyDelete
  76. I didn't mean Scott, I meant if he was married in general. Im not sure in which video it was but he said "I wanna thank my husband" and idk that kinda freaked me out because he's so young. I can look it up though

    ReplyDelete
  77. Oh? Interesting. I didn't know that about French.

I fell in love with her voice about 2000s, then began listening to her Italian stuff. "Caruso" is still hers, IMO. I like Pavs, but there's something majestic about her. I think the way she uses her whole body in performance makes me more of a fan as well.

She's kinda been pushed as the imitation Celine, which probably is what killed her in the US. The thing is her and Celine really just share a lot of the same influences. I hear a lot of Barbra in both. you?

    ReplyDelete
  78. Anybody interested in Arabic music?

    ReplyDelete
  79. Amy is one of the rare ones. Such a voice and so versatile. Her belts are out of this world and her head voice is so powerful and just WOW! Amy doesn't belong in a "Vocal Trinity." Amy belongs in a class of her own which another human being has yet to reach.

    ReplyDelete
  82. Primo Uomo Assoluuto is right, French people are not interested in belting, it even annoys them most of the time. This is why Lara Fabian has been criticized and laughed at by French people. In many French people's opinion, she does nothing but screaming...
I don't know why most of the popular singers nowadays in France are smooth-voiced singers, with a sweet and small tone, singing with almost nothing but a guitar background... ^^
I'm not saying it's bad, but we tend to get stuck in this musical "identity", while we have great singers and powerful voices...

    ReplyDelete
  83. And meanwhile the rest of the world is so focused in belting that they forget that there's much more to a person's voice than just reaching powerful notes. I do love me some great belts, but sometimes it's so nice to just listen to soft sung notes... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IpUIGf_Z13o

Oh, yes...one of my favorites is Mylene Farmer, and her voice is very small, though she can project her low chest tones very well and reach high notes effortlessly. I also love Alizee's two first albums, songs like "parler tout bas" by Alizee and "Innamoramento" by Mylene Farmer are just gorgeous singing.

    ReplyDelete
  85. Primo Uomo Assoluto30 December 2013 at 17:37

You should watch her "En tout intimite" concert.
I don't really care for the "Caruso" song, it's a bit overdone by everybody in my opinion. But her "Adagio" is one of the greatest vocal performances I've ever heard. Also, songs like "Broken Vow" and "I guess I loved you" are great vocal performances. I really loved her "Mademoiselle Zhivago" project, with her incarnating a very different type of woman in every video/song.

But truly, so far I think "Nue" and "Le Secret" are her master pieces.

    ReplyDelete
  86. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mPhGtm70Xsg Is this incorrect?

    ReplyDelete
  87. 5.1 Octaves is quite high and those one octave and two octave notes were vocal frys and should not be counted. I would define her range from D3-G5 which would be 2.3 Octaves or if you want to count those squeks it would be D3-G6 which would mean Marilyn has a whistle register and her vocal range would be 3.3 Octaves. (Someone correct me if I'm wrong).

    ReplyDelete
  88. The squeaks shouldn't be considered as well, her range is D3-G5, by the way, I think the owner of the channel hates Mariah, check his vids

Those "squeaks" aren't her, they're done by a soprano called Marni Nixon.

    ReplyDelete
  90. Those low notes definetly don't count. They sounded like she was purring instead of singing. If that kind of notes counted I'd also have a 5 octave range lol

  108. I don't like the fact that some of the songs are going to be sung by the same ones that sang them before, but at least the songs chosen have had great impact in the show.

  109. There's no singer younger than 20 out now that can touch this little girl. She has improved so much since she was 15..... Like... OMG..... I love you Lee Hi!!!!!!!!!!!

Also i'm not sure what that low note was at the begining....before I pitch it...I'm gonna guess an Bb2...not sure yet...

  111. There was something I didn't like about this version but I couldn't put my finger on what it was, but I think that you just hit the nail on the head. Yeah, sure this version is much better from a technical point of view than Demi's, but I think that from the emotional side (even though that is pretty much subjective) Demi beats this one. I feel like he sung it in a too delicate way, like he was focusing too much on the vocals and in making them sound beautiful instead of trying to express the happiness of finally taking the reins of his life.

    ReplyDelete
  112. I like both versions but I still prefer Demi's. I'm just sucker an accent anyways. LOL. At least the dude singing included a little growl. It was kinda cute. ROFL...But his enunciation was bothersome at some points. He has a gorgeous voice but, nothing that would make him last too long in the world of pop.

  115. I remember watching Nicole in her reality TV days.. waiting from Eden Crush to go big. LOL.. Her career moves makes me wonder how serious she takes singing as a career. I find it strange that someone like her with such strong of vocals has join 3 or 4 different groups.. especially a group like Pussycat Dolls that's focused about entertaining, dancing and looking sexy, than vocals. And then all the different reality shows she did that weren't done to really push an album but for $ and relevance..

  116. Eb3. Not terribly low, but an impressive note given the amount of resonance behind it.

    ReplyDelete
  117. Hah...those low notes don't count. Her range starts at D3 (and a very WEAK D3 it is). Quite a beautiful midrange, however - at least she doesn't strain to achieve her head voice, though it is very disconnected. Marilyn wasn't much of a singer, but at least she had a decent ear for pitch. Her voice, however, had a range of D3-G5, with a comfort range of F3-F5. Not terribly impressive, but then, she was a singing actress, not an acting singer.

Her career has been going for 53 years now. She actually was the supporting act for the Beatles in the early 60-ies according to Wikipedia.
Here's how she sang the same song thirty years earlier.

  139. I'm actually really happy that her vocals have improved so much over the years. And from this performance it seems that her vocals are best when her energy matches the feelings of the song. She sounded pretty strong in We Found Love after the beat kicked in and she got pumped up.

Check out the "personal life" section on her wikipedia article!

She, by all accounts, is also a loyal friend. A good colleague, she's okay with her exes, her son loves her, her friends are long time friends, her first manager was her manager for her entire career.
I know a guy who is a fan and met her when she was staying in a hotel he was working and he says she was very kind.to him when he approached her.

Don't believe the gossip Josh. Remember, she was also a woman who took control of her work and such early on and this was in a time when women who did so were subject to a lot of resentment from many men.

  145. Indeed, the Drake and Josh soundtrack wasn't my thing. But his actual studio albums are sick. I'm an alternative type of guy and Drake and Josh is a huge part of my childhood, so when I realized Drake was on spotify, I jumped at it haha. I hope he goes somewhere. His music has a Beatles type ring to it. His range isn't half bad either. F2 is his lowest (I found a D2 in octave unison, but I think it was someone else singing it) and for a higher tenor, that's pretty amazing.

I thought I was the only one that thought Stump's F2 was crazy as hell. I don't know how he did it but it was completely gorgeous and raw LOL. I got a bit jealous because I can't push enough that much raw power and I'm a bari.
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PVsCC1jo_rs
Not even his lows, he can phrase in the fifth octave with belting alone. Something else that's incredibly impressive. I don't know how he does it, or what he's eating, but he better continue.

I wish there were more people like him though. So many damn tenors in pop culture today that only belt measly A4s (no hate towards tenors Lol), but I would take a sultry low note over a higher belt any day.

Agree and it is also kinda funny to listen how she is out of breath while singing it. She should be given easier songs to sing, she has great voice, one that can be used better.

    ReplyDelete
  160. Haha...it's funny because I've watched that video too many times to count...

Patrick is a tenor to the fullest, so his lows sometimes cut out in live performances of 'Headfirst Slide' (sorry if my Fall Out Boy fan is showing, but Folie is literally my favourite album of 2008, Mariah be damned). The only person with enough range to even begin comparing with him as a male pop/punk singer is Brendon Urie, and while Brendon's lows are more reliable, his belts are fragmented where Patrick's are full and bright all the time.

Though when they sing together, I die a little on the inside.

I agree with you completely about the world needing more people like him. His voice is something that is simply rare and incredible to hear. I often wonder why his solo stuff didn't do so well, but I suppose the pop world is a finicky place. The same goes to Drake Bell - he's a guy with twice the vocal and writing ability of someone like Justin Bieber, and yet one is completely obscure and the other has no respite from attention.

    ReplyDelete
  161. Holy cruddd, you're a Panic! at the Disco fan too? Urie is probably in my top 5 for male singers. (Number one is taken by John Legend, Lol. Sorry, no one will beat him).

Urie's lows are a lot more connected, but he struggles with his belts, despite him being able to reach a B4 with a pretty nice tone. I do love his lyricism though. They're so crude and have a lot of dry humor which fits nicely with his genre. Now, I've never heard him and Stump, so if they have please enlighten me with a link LOL. Them together is pretty much a dream come true.

I've sorta stayed away for FOB honestly. Not too fond of their newer stuff but I do listen to their older tracks, especially the ones on Folie. I got to be honest though, I am a sucker for alternative rock/punk-indie singers and groups. That's why I sorta fell in love with Brendon Urie and likewise for Stump and Bell.

May sound harsh, but I hope Bieber falls. 2013 was a tough year for him and although I wish him the best, I don't think his music will do very well with One Direction in the way.

    ReplyDelete
  162. http://hollywoodlife.com/2014/01/01/mariah-carey-new-years-eve-performance-art-of-letting-go/

I don't think this is dubbed. The belts may be dubbed but come on, she did not do those runs at the end.

    ReplyDelete
  163. I AM THE BIGGEST FUCKING PANIC! FAN TO EVER LIVE, ARE YOU KIDDING ME?!

Now that that's out of the way, yeah - I don't know what it is with Brendon's voice half the time. He sings incredibly easily in that 'Chaka Khan'-sounding belted voice, up to A5, and it begs the question why the range of A4-C5 gives him so much trouble, though I suspect that that's a big bridge in his voice, as it is in mine.

I sometimes wonder why he doesn't employ more of his low range. His range of ease seems to slink down to at least G2, if not lower, and the amount of resonance on those low notes is formidable, while he seems fully comfortable to about G4, giving him a tessitura akin more to a baritone than the tenor he makes himself out to be.

Also, his belting is just...weirdly inconsistent. During the live show I was at, he was able to go for nearly an entire 8 VERY difficult (tessitura-wise) songs in a row, but then faltered when presented with something that stayed mostly in the mid-range and only popped above F4 a few times. Patrick, I've noticed, just goes roughly at the same pace the entire show.

Justin Bieber...honestly...I really don't have anything remotely positive to say about the kid. He's an asshole to pretty much everyone who isn't in the music industry or to whom the press won't react in outrage. I mean, I get being a little over-stimulated by the messed up fangirls and paparazzi, but the guys from One Direction have pretty much the same problems, and you never hear about problems from them.

Oh! Finally, concerning the song that Patrick and Brendon sang on together is '20 Dollar Nose Bleed' off of Folie...and if you've ever heard that song and never noticed that they're both on it, don't feel bad - their upper ranges are strikingly similar.

    ReplyDelete
  164. Panic fan, FOB fan, LOL you must be my long lost cousin. Literally, at school when I ask people if they listen to Panic! they're like, "what the fck are you talking about, what's a damn Panic?" I just walk away and take about 4 deep breaths because I am less than 6 seconds from snapping Lmao.

Inconsistency kills soooo many people, but he still manages somehow. I think he singing too high to match the punk rock genre considering that most punk rockers are higher tenors. It's funny because you would think Urie would be the last one to try and "fit in." Most likely singing out of his tessitura gave him that gap between his registers. I'm suspect to that too, not even going to lie.

I know what you mean by his belting being weird as hell. A perfect example is Girls/Girls/Boys live. He seems to be doing well, though the veins popping from his neck tell otherwise. Nevertheless he's hitting the notes on key with decent and round sound. He even manages to belt the B4 with great intonation at 2:31. Almost sounds like the Studio version

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F-MyDmnYmig

Then you have the acoustic version of Lying is the Most Fun, which shows off a bit of his less utilized lower range (goes down to the G2 with a lot of ease). The performance was still good, but you can tell that he has a lot of strain. Ironically, like you said, it is placed around F4 ish whilst belting.
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Owk5YXluv9M

That gap does hinder, but he still delivers. I would kill to see him live oh my god. I'm in ATL and the next concert is in February so I will probably catch that one.

Just added 20 Dollar to my playlist. Lol, they're so similar, although Stump has less weight and that does make logical sense. Their vibratos are almost identical hahahaha. Thanks for hitting me up with the song! Probably gonna replay the living crap out of them.

As for Bieber -- he makes me feel some type of way. I know I shouldn't cite a YouTuber, but if you want Kingsley's recent video of Justin Bieber overexposed, it does make sense. I just hope Bieber makes one or two more albums and calls it quits ( I highly doubt he's retiring, the kid isn't even of drinking age LOL). If he really thinks he can live off of his 100 million dollar net worth for the next 60 years, he's got another thing coming.
One Direction, I don't mind them. Embarrassingly, I do admit their newer album was decent lmao. Not my type of music though.

  169. YASSSS! September 23, 1996! She's barely team Virgo but she made it on our roster. She started out when she was 15 on a stage show competing to win, and improved there. She's shown a range of C3-G5 and I can't express enough how vastly she's improved.... She can now belt those terrible EEEE vowels without her voice losing resonance and the size of her mid belt is quite large now. That A4 at the end was nice.

But in South Korea they really lay down heavy on that back tracking which deducts from their performances.... But her vocals were really spot on despite the heavy back tracking.

    ReplyDelete
  173. I'm like that myself and I was in denial for a while, until my friends finally screwed it into my brain that I need to care a bit more... LOL. I'm not gonna hide it, I was a bit over introverted with them at times and I can understand why they get a bit pissed off from time to time. Not sure how to really make it better, but I know having a formidable amount of patience helps, at least in my case.

My lack of patience ruins a lot....now I just need to learn to get all that patience back. XD

    ReplyDelete
  174. Patience???? On me??? Sorry....LOL....I have patience for cute little kitties and puppies because they don't have a language complex and can't directly communicate with people but as far as it goes, being patient with people....I can't... I generally have a one shot rule...I hate repeating myself....and I'll be in a very interesting conversation and randomly walk away for no apparent reason (according to my friends but I never recall)....I also hate hanging out with other people, but I do love to party.... I've been told I'm quite the person to party with especially if there is a pole present...LOL.

    ReplyDelete
  175. LMAO that last part had me rolling!

Besides that, I feel you! PATIENCE is THE hardest thing to get and I don't understand how my friends can wait in six hours in a line for a PS4 LOL. I was like, order online? Nooo, but they wanted the discount.

I've got a few "bad friend" stories myself, all of which I didn't even realize I was doing. I interrupt a LOT and sometimes I make promises and plans only to 'cancel' because of some personal reason that I tended to lie about. Lol, I would like to receive the worst friend award now. Kitties and puppies? As much as I love them, my patience with them is miniscule haha.

God...this has just made me realize how much of a horrible person I am. I am, though, a party animal. I like meeting new people, but like you, once I have to start repeating things and you keep asking for the same favors (like rides places when you can WALK the 15 minutes and I have to pay gas), then it starts getting rough...

I've never encountered poles though hahaha, not sure what I would do if I was presented with one..hmm..

  176. Read as much as you can, play games that involve using the brain (i.e Chess (a favorite of mine), Go (may take some time to get a handle on), Mahjong (great for training the brain with finding matching patterns), Scrabble (or the iPhone "words with friends"), there's also a site that goes by the name of Luminosity that has a series of "brain training" games that are all quite effective. The games target areas such as problem solving, memory, flexibility (task-switching), attention, speed, etc. It does cost to join, but they offer a free demo to see if you like it, and the prices (at least to me) are cheap). Keep math skills limber, just ask yourself random math problems. For example, let's say you see 12 people walking by, ask yourself how many people would there be if there were 23 times as many? (276). Take time and study random areas that interest you, or things you happen upon. Another great thing to do is to take up learning a new language! It trains the brain to work in different ways, and builds new connections within the brain. It also provides job opportunities in the real world, take it from me. I work as a translator in Spanish, Russian, and German and it helped tremendously mentally and financially :)

I know this wasn't addressed to me, but I figured additional tips wouldn't hurt :)

    ReplyDelete
  177. I've done some terrible friend stuff too. But I seldom interrupt people because I nut the fuck up when someone interrupts me especially when it gets heated. I know the feeling of being interrupted lol. As far as promises go, I seldom make them because I'm lazy but when I do I always come through. My friends though are serious belly buddies... I cook a lot and bring tons of food to school and these niggas be all in my lunch box trying to eat my food, and they know...that is the quickest way to start a fight with me....I don't play about my food...

One time, I ended up making a sourcream pound cake for me and my close friends, and everyone wanted some...then when I say no, niggas wanna look at you sideways like you just cursed their land and poisoned their trees...

Also, I love to argue... I will start with my friends for no reason but its gotten to the point that they can tell I'm just playing so they don't take it serious any more. As far as having to repeat myself...as soon as I say never mind...my friends get angry...LOL.

Be warned...poles hare not just metallic cylindrical objects that run from the floor to the ceiling. They have persuasive properties... if you see one roaming the wilds, steer clear unless you have either of these following traits: A strong mind, some serious upper body strength and great legs, or some fities' in yo pocket!!!!!!!

2-Getting back my old habit of writing. I wanted to be a writer back in my early teens but I've become too lazy. It's time to ginger myself up!
3- Improving my dancing and singing skills, this year I swear I'm gonna reach the three octaves! (And I promise I'll stop to make a fol out of me at the dance floor...)
4-Go to the psycologist and start getting treated of my ADD because it's getting quite serious...

And I guess I don't have any more resolutions since I already do a lot of exercise and study quite hard. Let's see how I do this year!

  183. Something like that. I don't really pay attention much in class when it comes to History haha. It was one of the three major Greek philosophers and I'm almost positive it wasn't Aristotle. I think he was more about leading by example.

  184. Wait wait now I remember: Plato was Socrates' disciple and learned from him the famous "Socratic Method" which is a means of arriving at the truth by continually questioning, obtaining and criticizing answers...Getting intellectual already right? :P

  185. I think you either are an intellectual or you are not. If you are, you are curious and will work at satisfying your curiosity.
If you are an intellectual by nature, nobody needs to tell you to read. You will want to read because that's the best way to satisfy curiosity.

Plato wrote about Socrates. Who asked questions not to get the answer but to force the other to really think about his own words and thoughts and thought process.

  186. Either you're getting smarter, or Google has been your best friend the past hour Lol.

  187. There is a hand full of food that I'd not only beat a bitch's ass for, dragging them from pole to pole, mollywhopping their ass from hemisphere to hemisphere, but suck some mean peen't for too... Sweet potato pie, dark unsweetened chocolate, cheddar rice cakes, chocolate cheese cake, sour cream pound cake, red velvet cake, black forest cake and some good old fashion fried chicken cooked in peanut oil with a shallow base technique....YASSSS!!!!!!!!!!!!!

But round here, the black girls run off all the white girls so I can't get the chance to see the sweeties twerk. LOL....

Also, we should argue some time....LOL, we'd both love that...

  188. Well I wanna note that to me, your english is already pretty good. In fact if I wasn't paying close attention, I wouldn't have guessed that it wasn't your first language.

  189. Well I'm proud that I've been pretty good about exercising this past year, this summer i went from being able to do no pushups, to 30. And I can run five miles in less than 50 minutes now. I still have a little bit of a stomach, but it's nothing that could be called a muffin top. So I wanna do a little more cardio to get rid of that extra bit, and then tone a bit more. And I want more of an ass, people already say I have a nice ass, but I just want MORE lol.

But my main thing this year will be to transfer that focus and energy into my studies. I got good grades last year except for Trigonometry and English, so I need to work harder this year to really fix that hole.

  190. I've been staying on top of my writing but not my dancing. And yasss Reach three octaves! I wanna hear you go from E2-E5 in chest!

But back to my dancing...I haven't made a healthy dance video in months.... And considering how much I've improved on that front and a great ability I have to choreograph, I need to stop being lazy.

As far as my ADD....That shit's a lost cause.....

  191. Haha thanks, I'm doing my best to improve it :D I know that my written english is decent, but I want it to be as good as my written spanish (which, modesty apart, is really great), and hell, my spoken english is terrible, seriously, almost as bad as this woman's http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hhJt3Tzjy8I (Maybe I've exaggerated, it's not THAT terrible, but it does need much work)

  192. These last days I've been hitting a lot of effortless F2 and by forcing a bit I've gotten down to E2 and D#2, so I guess that if I keep on working I'll be able to reach even down to C#2. Also, today, I've been working on my belts and I've felt like I was going quite high without absolutely no effort, and when I used the pitch meter app of my cell phone it marked a F5, but I think it must be a mistake because I can barely go up to A4 without forcing. Would you mind if I sent you an audio and you pitch it for me? I'm terrible at that...

    BTW, what's a "healthy dance"?

    ReplyDelete
  193. A healthy dance is me using a poor choice in words. I meant to say but forth an honest effort and danced. LOL. And sure, you can send me it and I'll pitch it.

Also learn how to mix your lows with vocal fry and darken your voice as you go down. It makes your lows more dynamic and much easier to acesss. Also how high can you go in falsetto?

  195. 1) Live healthier = Drink more WATER (soda is not accepted), log off of tumblr and exercise and
    2) Live happier = care less about other people's opinions because I do not live for them and in the end it's me who has to look into the mirror and be happy with the person that's looking back.
    3) work on my falsetto and head voice. Honestly it's cringe-worthy. A whiny weak mess.
    4) be able to play "My Immortal" and "Halo" on the piano.
