I have exactly zero clue as to what this Grown Woman promo is for, or where it came from.
It doesn't feature the entire track, so it can't be the actual music video. But that doesn't mean it can't be a teaser for something longer. It may even be a video played on the jumbo screens while Beyonce performs the buzz track/album cut/single/Lord-knows-what on tour. However, it's not something I recall seeing when she sang it at Chime For Change. Could it be that she's updated the visuals since then?
Please, one of you guys, help a confused individual out and tell me just what the heck I'm looking at here!
[Original Clip removed because of infringment notice. Arg.]
Definitely looks like one of her accompaniment music videos for touring and performing.
ReplyDeleteI, absolutely, LOVE the 'Afro-Beat' instrumentation to this song and the Contemporary, Nigerian- inspired, tribal dance/choreography, in this video, is just phenomenal. Beyonce' looks so fierce. I, also, like the fact that she is embracing her 'West- African' roots and encompassing i into her artistry. : - D
ReplyDeleteAlso @Diva - this is, most definitely, an accompanied short-video (Promo sketch) for her 'Mrs. Carter Show - Tour'. She has showcased this clip in numerous cities this past month, particularly during intermissions - both this and her 'Bow Down/I Been On' visuals. It's not the music video for this song, I hope not.
That dancing takes me back to Senegal. My love for Beyonce will never cease even though I fucking hate that song so damn much. I'm like, heffah we know you're grown! You don't have to prove it! Stop stating the damn obvious!
ReplyDeleteSENEGAL!!!!!!!
ReplyDelete*Boom. Boom*
: - D
Thanks to you and @Brian for clearing that up for me! This the performamce- and accompanying graphics- I saw http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lQOoJelhoPA
ReplyDeleteta very much!
ReplyDeleteWest Africa period is just stellar. Lol...
ReplyDelete"Heffah" Ouch! Lol.
ReplyDeleteIt was a video on her world tour where she was wearing this blue ruffled elizabethian themed dress and was twerking like a cat with mange. I was like damn gurl, didn't know you could get down with the Mapouka like you just did the Mapouka!!!!
ReplyDeleteLol, here in the south, we just throw that word around all willy. It isn't meant to be insulting. Lol
ReplyDeletePhew! Glad we cleared that up before you got stung...https://24.media.tumblr.com/9d59be9e8fc76b22418694ccc99b9d57/tumblr_mm8xopkDKb1sngr90o1_400.gif
ReplyDelete"... twerking like a cat with mange" a phrase thrown around often in the south...? lol
ReplyDeleteLol, no that one was spontaneous. You don't see all those cats twerking on vine? Lol
ReplyDeleteI ain't scared. Lolol... There is nothing better than thwarting Beyonce deludes, even though I'm one of her deludes too. But I see nothing wrong with a few civil wars. Lol.
ReplyDeleteYou are from Senegal?
ReplyDeleteNo, but I do have a Senegalese heritage. I love reping the country though. Nicest place in the world.
ReplyDeleteOkay, that "takes me back" must have thrown me for a loop seeing as I figured you to be at least 4th generation American. ;-)
ReplyDeleteIDK, what generation of American I'd be considered because on my mother side, they were American since my great great grandpa, and on my dad's side, just since my grandpa and grandma. Lol.
ReplyDeleteIn the end is she like virgin mary and that was little baby jesus like we see in paintings?
ReplyDeleteI think my favorite thing is, not only does she look fierce, but she also looks HAPPY. I feel like I've seen a promo like this a while ago but it barely caught any attention. Poor Beyhive, everything thought she was gonna make an announcement of the new single on December 3rd, turns out it was an announcement she was going on a 22 day vegan cleanse. She's probably sitting behind the screen laughing at us unworthy fools. Sigh.
ReplyDeleteThe billboard chart I was speaking of was over the year 2012 so no, it doesn't change. It's a final tally. :-)
ReplyDeleteI know what you meant with "older music" I just meant to clarify Anouk doesn't fall under that header.
You seem to think the music I speak of here is all I like but I kind of try to keep in mind this is a blog devoted to ladies. There is a lot of music I also like but don't speak of. Queen would actually be a perfect example of a band I quite enjoyed at their height. :-)
Of course those percentage won't match the people working in music. But that is beside the point. I was using those numbers to point out why your argument claiming that calling racism would be as reasonable as calling sexism failed.
Not to support my argument for sexism being at work here.
My definition of gender equality is not the same as yours. Yours implies you see men and women as being the same and equal. Mine is seeing men and women as different but equal.
Shall we call the stale mate on both matters? :-)
But Katy performed at the nominations so maybe this was their way of thanking her?
ReplyDeleteHopefully they don't continue thanking her with the actual award.
ReplyDeleteDivaDevotee, I'm afraid you're going to have to talk about the performance in the video on this site (57:11).
ReplyDeletehttp://thenationaltree.org/2013-national-tree-lighting-show/
She started off well, but towards the ending, it just became...painful. A failed whistle, head voice/falsetto all over the place, raspy belts... not pretty. The plus is that she seemed to enjoy herself (at least in the beginning).
And again, I'm an idiot for reposting what you said. Sorry! But yeah, a failed whistle, crap falsetto/head voice, bad belts... not pretty.
ReplyDeleteShe started off so well though! I wonder what happened there, maybe her voice wasn't rested enough? Or maybe she's really starting to lose all control over her voice...

How the hell do you get all these GIFs LOL.
ReplyDeleteFinally someone who sees the picture as I do.
ReplyDeleteHowever, it is still sad to see someone with such amazing feats go.
You seem to like "minimalist" artists...but doesn't mean Gaga is not a great pop artist, a great musician and a fine vocalist.
ReplyDeleteTalking about the commercial success of Rihanna and Taylor Swift when someone is talking about the importance of good singing technique for a great vocalist is an enormous fallacy I would expect from someone younger than 16 years old. How old are you?
ReplyDeleteThat's simply not true. She has claimed she never took voice lessons, but there are several voice teacher in New York who have worked with her throughout the years :) if you do a bit of digging you would find out. A lot of singers like to claim they never had voice lessons, so people can believe it's just a "gift", but I know from good source that Barbra does take sporadic voice lessons to keep her singing in check.
ReplyDeleteYou literally see her breath moments before she tries to hit the note. It's obvious her vocals aren't necessarily weather resistant anymore. I mean, vocalists falling prey to mother nature isn't a unique thing.
ReplyDeleteCorrect me if I'm wrong, but hasn't Beyonce's voice been changing recently.
ReplyDeleteShe does a lot of vocal acrobatics in this one
ReplyDeletehttp://youtu.be/IGBbRXO4xug
I'm currently doing a vocal showcase for this performance :).
Most of Poker Face (acoustic) lives in 2010 uses this "arrangement" with more melismas.
Another example
http://youtu.be/pne45tKEE1g
So it's her word against some voice teachers in New York? Think I'll just believe the word of the person in question. But you are free to go with "good sources" .
ReplyDeleteTo be fair, it's been changing pretty consistently for the past ten years. What's happening with her voice is that she's in her 30s, and so her voice is maturing to its final stage, which is to say that while it is losing its youthful characteristics, her voice is getting mellower and more textured. She's basically becoming a full-fledged mezzo-soprano in the prime of her voice. While she may not be able to belt as high as she once did, her middle and lower ranges will develop considerably, and her head voice will become much richer.
ReplyDeleteThe 'bad' quality to her voice can be pretty easily explained as well: 1. she has to adjust to where her voice now sits. 2. She's had tonsillitis, and has been performing with it. I'd give her a year to fully adjust to her matured voice and she'll bounce right back.
I wasn't aware that there was a 'bad' quality to her voice now. Interesting. Tank you for your analysis of the situation.
ReplyDeleteWell yeah her tone sounded much better at the improv. Maybe it was she was inside and not performing in the cold? Idk maybe she didn't prep enough.
ReplyDeleteStop the presses! This IS in the actual music video!!! Grown woman is a bonus video on her new album! The one she released in full this morning!!!
ReplyDelete(can you tell I'm excited?)
Now I love this shit!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tc8hyBfoBZg
ReplyDeletedear god
ReplyDeleteOMG, SHE JUST RELEASED THE ENTIRE ALBUM!!!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteThird in that case I think. Just one off LOL
ReplyDelete"COLEMAN" IS A FAKE PROFILE
ReplyDeleteIT IS FALSE IMPERSONATION.
SOMEONE SAD AND CLEARLY UNHAPPY WITH EXISTENCE I GUESS
FEEL FREE TO ASK THE REAL LEONARDO @LEONARDOTAIWO VIA INTSAGRAM YOURSELF. AM SURE HE WILL LAUGH THIS OFF
GET A LIFE "COLEMAN" !!!
How do we know "COLEMAN IS A FAKE" isn't you Coleman? ;-)
ReplyDeleteWhoever it is, he should learn that an impersonation by definition is fake LOL
False impersonation is a legal term, it's impersonation with the intent to avoid expenses, or gain benefits. The use of it, in the context it was used, is perfectly fine.
ReplyDeleteOh please! Dude who posted that was not a lawyer and I doubt, if this Coleman is an impersonator, he is legally avoiding expenses or gaining benefits from using the name Coleman but claiming to be a model on this site.
ReplyDeleteBesides that, no doubt legalese is full of such nonsensical terms. Talk about people who make a living of pretending crap in order to avoid expenses and gain benefits..lawyers sure fit that bill.
How has Coleman used his image to gain benefits? I don't think there's a way to get money through commenting in this site (Although maybe I'm wrong and I could be rich by now lol)
ReplyDeleteBenefits don't have to involve money.
ReplyDeleteIn this case, the benefit is being seen as someone people find attractive. Surprisingly a number of benefits come with that: being treated nicer, and with more respect, and receiving compliments (From what I've seen, he has been showered with compliments on "his looks"), just to name a few. Obviously this usage of false impersonation isn't court room worthy, but I hope you get the gist of this. His "benefits" were positive attention, which to some people, is worth more than gold.
I didn't think of that that way, but you definetly have a point there. My opinion on Coleman is still the same, though.
