[Question] Which Christmas Songs Are Keeping You Festive in 2013?

Tis the season for Christmas music! With that being so, I'd like to know: what are you listening to this festive period? The year has seen many of our talented Divas releasing albums dedicated to the season, but I'll be interested to know if any songs from those sets have made your playlist this year. If so, then let me know which, in the comments!

More impressive than the amount of albums we've seen come our way, is that two of those releases have birthed original tunes- Leona Lewis' One More Sleep and Kelly Clarkson's Underneath The Tree- that have actually managed to give Mariah's All I Want For Christmas Is you a run for her airplay money. Something practically unheard of in years gone by! I suppose subsequent Christmases will tell us if these newbies truly have the staying power of the Carey classic, but it doesn't take away from the fact that they have been all over radio this year.

So come on friends, share the Christmas song(s) that have been keeping your spirits festive this month.

  1. Donny Hathaway - "This Christmas".

I, absolutely, love this song and this Man's voice; soulful & elegant.

    He is truly missed.

  12. I agree.

Both her & Mariah have a personal relationship with God; they're singing to their Saviour when performing Gospel music and o the emotion is greater and much more genuine.

    Case in Point: STUNNING VOCALS!!!!!!!

  14. A few other songs I really like, since you guys are playing ball (Thanks very much for the quick comments!):

Kate Bush- "Snowflake". There's a particular cadence in here that always make me melt.
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vEWMYfcg1o8

Tori Amos- "Winter": More seasonal than Christmassy, but still makes me think of the holidays.
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C-IsiAfjhck

Joni Mitchell- "River": One of my all time favourite songs. Ever. Period.
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GpFudDAYqxY#

Christina Aguilera- "Silent Night": Reminds me of yesteryear.
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nVbGvoljwfc

Darlene Love: "Christmas (Baby please come home)": Let's be real for a second. There would be no "All I Want For Christmas" without this song. Mariah even covered it on her first holiday album. LOVE it.

  22. I know that people on this site are gonna be super divided on this, but I really do love Ariana Grande's new Christmas EP, her original song, Snow in California is gorgeous. And I also like her minimalist cover of Baby, It's Cold Outside from two years ago with Mac Miller. So to ease the tension of me liking Ariana Grande, here, have my favorite Christmas video here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gMkMT-7RfP0

  27. I swear I almost posted Snowflake! :-)

    ReplyDelete
  28. Did you see the one of her doing a "Tradition" of walking her dog in the snow dressed in THAT?!

    ReplyDelete
  29. I love all the ones mentioned in the article and comments section (especially Kelly, omg Underneath the Tree has been my SONG) but for the moment: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ua-216ZtNLY

    ReplyDelete
  30. Well she was pregnant with twins so she got pretty huge by the time those demonic kids ate their way out of her stretch out cervix.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Whats even worse is her "Moments" video...

    ReplyDelete
  32. Haha that explains the theory that the pregnancy hurt her vocals.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Really?

Leona's and Kelly's amateur carols don't even get close to Mariah's. Even though, both Ladies tried to copy the whole thing. So sad, DD. Shame on you!

    ReplyDelete
  34. I don't know if it's DD editing your posts again or just the huge boredom of reading your constant praise of Mariah, but everytime you post all I read is: bla bla bla I have a creepy obsession with Mariah bla bla bla

  61. LOL Hi Mariah.

    ReplyDelete
  62. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4mg2fJpEcFU I love this. My only critic would be to quit the throaty belts but I guess that song needs some edge to it ...

    ReplyDelete
  63. I'm adoring Tori Kelly so much right now!
She's underrated, it's not fair that she's not as big as some of the talentless "divas" that are out there!

    ReplyDelete
  64. By far one of the best interviews. Mariah seems very humble and seems comfortable and genuine.

    ReplyDelete
  65. I am obsessed with this interview omg. And Andy Cohen is the best

    ReplyDelete
  66. I swear she was pregnant for 19 months.

    ReplyDelete
  67. I loved this. It's always great to see Mariah interviewed by people she's comfortable around- as is the case whenever she's around Alan carr http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i_ZLO9X7YEM

  70. That woman is too much. Seriously, her music is something else.

    ReplyDelete
  71. I'm guessing the down votes are because of the gif...lol

    ReplyDelete
  72. Never heard this before. It's so weird, despite listening to Jazmine so much I still didn't know what she looks like. She definitely doesn't look like her album covers. And since you brought up the song, here's Christina doing what she does best.... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ftva4G2vmDw

    ReplyDelete
  73. Lol, so you haven't seen much of Jazmine's live singing? And I agree, she doesn't look much like her album covers. For one they nip and tuck her with Photoshop....

    ReplyDelete
  74. Nah, mine was because I am just sick and tired of Mariah's song.
Though that gif IS bloody irritating. ;-)

  76. Yesterday I listened for the first time to Mariah's "Merry Christmas II You" and it's fantastic. My favorite tracks are: Oh Santa, Christmas Time Is In the Air Again, The First Noel/Born Is the King, O Come All Ye Faithful, One child and of course All I Want For Christmas Is You :D

    ReplyDelete
  77. out of all the pop stars who release christmas songs i honestly mariah has no competition here - all i want for christmas is a classic

  81. The Queen of Pop vocals, IMHO.

    ReplyDelete
  82. Kelly rarely utilizes head voice and in most case has been accessed above the A5 mark. However, that is not where it begins. Most notably but not technically. Kelly's shown use of Head Voice at E5. It has a Very strong, thick, and operatic sound that easily resonates throughout a wholesome venue without a Microphone. She showcases that in her small rendition of Waiting on My Dearie in her school play. She was around 15/16 at the time. When her sound is connected it's very strong. Clarkson's voice is very nice and powerful in more classical stylings. She also tends to be more flexible and versatile with her Dynamics as well. When Kelly uses her voice as an instrument the delivery is so great. She definitely has a great throat and knows how to use it masterfully, when she chooses. Shen she's sung songs like Why Don't You Try (live), Because Of You by Tony Bennett, Baby Blue Eyes and Changes the skill is very evident and at a high degree. I wish she'd sing more songs that compliment the characteristics of her voice & the skill she has as a vocalist. I also love how she's able to easily take on big climaxes seamlessly and nail them. Her vocal delivery is highly superb when she's actually utilizing her true skills. Can't wait to hear more from her. It should be known that Clarkson possesses One of the greatest voices in pop music ever, and in general.

    ReplyDelete
  83. No, her voice isn't strong. Her fach has nothing to do with it. Mariah Carey, one of the greatest vocalists to come along, is a Light Lyric. Her voice is absolutely strong. And singer singer is someone who uses their voice in an extraordinary way, which she hasn't in my opinion. Diana is matter of fact to the track. No finesse, innovation, wit or anything. She's someone I personally consider Karaoke. Sorry lol

    ReplyDelete
  84. Exactly I agree with that fully.

    ReplyDelete
  85. Indeed, she controls well her voice - transfering in many songs from the power of her nasal abilites - (she hold's her reserve well) and yes, many singer's do - unto "boisting" their diaphrams then continuing the range. No "natural" singer can do this well, but many with schooling do. It's hard to do. I haven't been able to determine Franklin's ability or Ann Wilson's - but Barbara seems to have the better control of her D's and even C's.
