[ Free For All Friday]

Free For All Friday time! Posts have been lacking this week- apologies! I was going to throw one together today, but got up late and now need to run! Hopefully they'll be a new profile up this weekend, as well as a spruced up oldie!  Happy Halloween!

If you don't know the score, here be the rules:
• Try not to get too perverted-this site still needs to basically be "safe for work".
• If somebody starts a controversial subject, try keeping it civil when dealing with it. If things get out of hand please flag the conversation.
• It would be nice if it stuck to music, but it's not a requirement! So talk about news, current events, how you're getting your hair done next time you hit the hairdresser! Whateves, really!
• No nasty comments aimed at other users.
Inappropriate hugs to all y'all, and wishing you an awesome weekend!

1. Boyce Avenue released their first single for their second album! It's called "One Life" and 100% of the benefits of the song will be destined to the project "Pecils of Promise" an organization that build schools in undeveloped countries. The song is just awesome, I love this guy's midrange! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T9SgjU4dBMk

2. So I can't link anything because I'm on my iPod. But Kelly Clarkson's christmas album that she released weeks before Halloween is just perfection. Dare I say it's up there with Mariah's. Although Baby It's Cold Outside seems like the only song in the world she hasn't completely nailed.

3. Helping MikeyPop out as I agree with the loveliness of Kelly's album...here's a link to a playlist of the whole thing. My personal favorite being "Blue Christmas"

4. okay so here is Celine's new (boring) song with Neyo http://smarturl.it/Incrediblestream. Happy Halloween :))

5. Vocally, she's exploiting more of her range. I love it. And I almost agree with you there. Her single, Underneath The Tree, seems to be on par with Mariah's All I Want For Christmas in terms of their "catchiness". I've heard the single in SEVERAL different commercials. I'm so happy for Kelly. Now, all she's gotta do is perform 'em live & then my life will be complete haha. Her mid belts are decent as well. I'd have loved to hear her venture more into her Head Voice & play with her melisma a lot more but it's still vocally competent. A truly amazing vocalist.

13. She's supposedly taping a christmas special. or NBC I think. It's not "live" but likely to be a great show for any Kelly fan.

19. Yeah, that's absolutely the opposite thing Mariah has done in the past 13 years, She kept singing amazing songs with beautiful lyrics like she always did..
/casm

21. SO-DAMN-COOL!! If all airplane companies put videos like these I wouldn't be scared of flying lol

ReplyDelete
22. Is not sarcasm, baby (LOL) it is the proof how dumb you are. hahahahaha

Mariah's been singing fun, young, hype hits since her twenties. Songs like Dreamlover, Fantasy, Honey and the list goes on and on. She's true to herself until now.

You're so DUMB. Try again.

ReplyDelete
23. LOL. Watch it?????? Really?

I Love Kelly, but the song is poor and mediocre.

ReplyDelete
27. Her voice sounds really good in this. Its light and reminiscent of some of her older material but it also sounds controlled and connected.

ReplyDelete
28. I definitely agree about "underneath the tree". It actually reminded me of Mariahs classic. :3

29. Hello "Diva Devotee" Members/Commenters...

I am "Matt Beilis" - Please subscribe to my YouTube page. Thank you so much.

There are 50 other video's of me singing many different songs on my page but this is just one of them.

Here is a video of me singing "Demi Lovato's - SkyScraper". How would you classify my voice?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MC1xFiW55Gc

ReplyDelete
30. WOW. You have a BEAUTIFUL voice. OMG. I love that heavy bluesy-y rasp of yours and your tone. Also, I went onto your YouTube page, I never knew that you would be that YouTube famous. I'm definitely subscribing. :D :D :D

Also, you sound like a light-lyric baritone to me but I dont know... You have quite a low voice.

ReplyDelete
31. Wao, Diva will probably be happy, people is starting to use his site for spam! That means he's getting famous! :D

ReplyDelete
32. Well, when you think about it in actuality, if you go on Google and type in "Vocal Range of [Insert Artist/Singer Here}" - this is one of the first websites to advertise an answer, as well as many others of course. That is how I found this website. I rarely comment as I'm, generally, extremely busy but I'm adamant that this site generates quite alot of traffic. LOL.

Anyway, this man's voice is, actually, very sexy. He has a lovely, raspy tone.

ReplyDelete
33. Actually, DD would happily represent an up and coming singer but they at least need original material.

ReplyDelete
34. Go onto his YouTube page, there are dozen's of original songs. His subscribers are in the 'hundred-thousands' and his views, collectively, are over 1 Million+... He's pretty awesome.

ReplyDelete
35. Well that's great for him....

ReplyDelete
36. Who cares about the extent of his 'YouTube popularity'? Everybody and anybody can see that he is quite well-known if you were to look... I don't quite understand your point? :-/

ReplyDelete
37. Yeah, I was thinking the same thing. I will say that he has quite a nice voice though but he didn't interest me much... Strangely I subscribed to him...LMAO.

ReplyDelete
38. I subscribed to him too. I think it was a combination of the 'piano playing' as well as his 'voice' that I found....... SEXY. I'm actually listening to one of his songs as we speak. LMAO.

Listen to his "Adele - Make You Feel My Love" cover. LOL.

ARTPOOP leaked, those potato records sound great ! :D

ReplyDelete
40. Mmmmmmm... I love that raspy/coarse texture of yours, there is something in your voice that reminds me of rod stewart. You have a damn-near perfect tone and you're hot. I'm off to watch your other videos.

ReplyDelete
41. OK. In Sky Scrapper his enunciation wasn't up to my taste but I did like the rasp, the piano skills, and dat face. LOL..

ReplyDelete
42. I agree. On some of his video's, he is definitely suffering from and falling victim to "Ariana Grande Syndrome" but the 'Heavy Rasp, Face & Piano Skills' have me doing permanent home-runs. LOL.

But listen to some more of his clips, you'll be surprised. I already have a favourite.

ReplyDelete
43. "Rod 'The Mod' Stewart" - I DON'T THINK SO.

Rod Stewart is one of my, all time, favourite vocalists and there is, absolutely, nothing in this Man's voice that epitomizes him other than the heavy rasp. Also, Rod's voice was much more 'coarser' than his. He is very talented, of course, but he is a singer all on his own.

ReplyDelete
44. Alright. I just wish he had a bit more versatility with that rasp from what I've seen so far from him.

ReplyDelete
45. I LOVE THIS. O.M.G. :O

ReplyDelete
46. I agree on that also. I wish his belts were just a little more 'dynamic and domineering' - like they were on his 'Jar of Hearts' cover - all the time. Nonetheless, he has a fine 'Pop/Rock/Blues' singer.

ReplyDelete
47. He has sooooo much potential and is such a unique character. I just wish I could hear more of his voice behind the rasp so I could practice classifying his voice. LOL. At least I can tell he's a tenor.

ReplyDelete
48. Exactly. His voice, as a whole however, is quite polarizing actually, in terms of classifying it, because of the 'heavy rasp' he has. At first I thought he was a 'Baritone'; a 'Light-Lyric' perhaps - judging on the basis of his range and tessitura, he has yet to sing/belt past an G#4/A4 but has done a C#5 in Falsetto. On the other hand, I began to listen to him more and realised that his timbre is definitely akin to that of a 'Tenor' but he takes songs sung by 'Tenor's' down a couple of semitones - Bruno Mars - and takes songs by Baritones up a key - Robbie Williams. LOL.

I am confused.

ReplyDelete
49. Well, Frank Ocean is a "flat tenor" with a lower extension, similar to how some lower set sopranos get mistaken for mezzos (amy lee, Katy perry). But that dude above did come off as a baritone at first but he doesn't quite have the middle coloring of a baritone. I'll be safe and call him a tenor until someone else who knows more than me comes along and helps us both. LOL.

ReplyDelete
50. I concur. LOL. Perhaps "Sasuke"...

Oh lawd I love you.

ReplyDelete
54. Anyone familiar with Majida El Roumi?

ReplyDelete
55. What is Syreeta Wright's vocal range?

ReplyDelete
56. I don't know how could that question get misunderestood lol anyway, my fear of flying comes from two things. 1- My vertigo. Whenever I get out to a balcony which is higher than a third floor I feel unconfortable, and when it's higher than a sixth floor I begin to feel dizzy. That makes it impossible for me to look out the window when I'm in a plane. 2- A plane accident that happened here in Spain long time ago. Something happened while the plane was taking off and it crashed, and since I saw it I can't stand the takeoff.

I know that the chances of crashing are almost nonexistent, but it can't help it. Still, it's not a HUGE fear. It's just the takeoff and when I look out the window. If I have a book or something to distract me (Or a bunch of Valium to calm me down...) I have no problem on flying.

ReplyDelete
57. Oh, so he can read :D lol

& what exactly makes the song mediocre? In terms of what?

ReplyDelete
58. Same here. I can play Mariah's song ANY time of day. I feel the same with Kelly's.

ReplyDelete
59. Was her larynx neutral for more than a few seconds??? Couldn't be prouder.

ReplyDelete
60. Theres a difference between representation and being used by an obvious Mod lol

ReplyDelete
61. ...well damn lol

ReplyDelete
62. It sounds like a "mix" of "Oh, Santa" and "All I want for christmas is you" in a bad way. The vocals are CRAZY, though.

ReplyDelete
63. Why do you have to bring Mariah Carey??? Now he won't shut up. Just ignore him.

ReplyDelete
64. they couldn't stop me. Nothing can.

ReplyDelete
65. Beautiful timbre. It seems you don't go above a G Natural, that I've noticed anyway. So far, the modal range is B2-G4. 1.5 Octave, it's not too bad. You don't sing in the Tenor Tessitura, like at all lol But, the lower range, It's not Baritone-like either. However, I do think you have more of an extension down there. You're definitely comfortable in the Key of B Flat. You're probably a low lyric tenor. If I can hear more of your lower register it'd be easy, but Bflat key, B2-G4, hollow lower register - arguably LLT.

ReplyDelete
66. Babe, do you realise people bring Mariah in every post? I don't even need to do it myself. So Shut up, f-hoe.

70. Artpop was leaked guys. I don't wanna be the person to spread pirated news but...here it is (it's a forum post) http://ohnotheydidnt.livejournal.com/82991868.html

ReplyDelete
71. OK, I must admit that that comment, combined with your pick with those sunglasses, was quite funny xD (in a good way)

ReplyDelete
72. LOL. Its true. He is no 'Rod "The Mod" Stewart'

Anyway, thank you Sasuke... I am happy that you 'finally' (and I use that word carefully) were able to give an appropriate classification to his voice. I, however, thought that he was a 'Light- Lyric Baritone', judged on the basis of his 'Range & Tessitura' but he has the 'Timbre' akin to that of a 'Low- Tenor'.

Have you watched/listened to any of his other covers? There's dozens. He has a Gorgeous tone with a Rasp that makes me weak. He is definitely a 'Raw, Emotive Singer' as opposed to a 'Technical Vocalist.

ReplyDelete
73. For any tech savvy people here, have you guys heard about the new Motorola Ara that is supposedly meant to make the phonebloks concept come to life?

ReplyDelete
74. There are so many technical flaws with the concept to the point that its just beautiful. According to Motorola, they've been planning this device for a year know. IDK how I feel about a modular cell phone but its a hell of an idea and it will either flop or flourish. The issue is that it doesn't feel like a new concept because it is still that candybar styled aesthetic but it actually is very, very new. Not only that, but this whole thing is backed by Google so this could be the new fundamentals of the next android OS. I'm no fan of Motorola though, but I would love to see an implementation with HTC but that brings up one of the main issues that a modular cellphone would face...but seriously, there are countless.

ReplyDelete
75. I think the fact that it's backed by Google give's it credibility, but the fact they've been doing this for a year now is a bit absurd in my opinion. Yeah, on paper, the idea seems amazing. Probably revolutionary, but when you think about the actual technical concept, it's crazy. The fact that it is Motorola, which takes about 1% of the worlds cell phone manufacturing also gives people doubts. Personally, I think the whole idea feels extremely new, even if the style is candy bar ( I mean, what more can you do with smartphones nowadays), the only issue with it is....is it plausible? Since Google is the one backing up Motorola on this, I'll give them the benefit of the doubt haha. Most people will stick with their own phones though, I know I will, but I would love to try it out. Android OS Kit Kat came out recently, so they probably won't be making any major OS updates anytime soon, though it would be cool to see if the operating system and the hardware could interact somehow.

That comment though lol #WeCan'tStop&WeWon'tStop...lookin' ass lmao

ReplyDelete
78. Mhmm, right...now you KNOW the only reason you're saying that is because you're biased & want to perpetuate the notion that Mariah's intangible in every aspect lol It's all good, though. At least you conceded that Kelly did her thing vocally. Had you undermined her capacity, I might've had to Super Stan Mode lol

ReplyDelete
79. Because it was all a ploy by Motorola. LOL.

ReplyDelete
80. Look, at you being messy! LOLOL!

EDIT:

ReplyDelete
82. ...and who is he? lol

You and me both. I find it interesting 'cause he sings in Bflat & Am in a majourity of his covers, which essentially are designated keys for Baritones. There's much more to his voice, but oh well.

I've listened to maybe 7 at the least. His tone is quite appealing, although it isn't to a degree that renders me feeble lol Emoting, however, is something he does incredibly well.

ReplyDelete
83. Well, y'know little ol'me @(~_^)@ trolol

ReplyDelete
84. delicious? hahahahahahahhahahaha I bet you're single. hahahahahahahah Who would dig that? LOL

ReplyDelete
85. lol go, do your thing,

ReplyDelete
86. You clearly are not a fan of 'Rock Music' because if you were you would, absolutely, know who 'Rod Stewart' is. LOL. :-O

Nontheless, he is none other than one of the 'Top- Seven Greatest Rock Vocalists of all Time' along with 'Robert Plant, Roger Daultry, Freddie Mercury, Janis Joplin, Tina Turner and Chris Cornell'. Although, this is my personal opinion.)

Yes, I agree. This man does sing in a tessitura consistent with that of 'Baritones', however he does possess a timbre akin to that of a 'Tenor'. - If we could hear more of his voice behind the 'heavy rasp', it would be easier to classify. - Thus far, I love his 'Adele' covers the most and others.

Who would you say are your favourite singers? Male and Female?

ReplyDelete
87. Oh, my God! Oh, my God! I'm fainting! Someone please... slap my face (one at time hehehehe).... Mariah just confirmed a sond with Stivie Wonder! My God! This album is gonna kill me! (as many of you wish)

90. http://music-mix.ew.com/2013/11/03/a-great-big-world-christina-aguilera-say-something/ Check out Christina's new song with A Great Big World. It sounds lovely!

ReplyDelete
91. Arguably lol I do enjoy rock music. I'm more into the modern scene. I listen to a lot of screamo, which is very barren in comparison to the other genres. I'm hopeless, what can I say? lol

Freddie Mercury is God-tier in my opinion. The man is a Baritone who could venture into the 5th Octave wit greater ease than most Tenors you see. Roger & Chris are my favs after him. The rest, I don't know haha.

I wonder why everyone labels that as Adele's song LOL!

Mannnn, I've got a bunch. Favourite female? Kelly, Whitney, Tina Marie/Patti & Lauper. Male? Freddie, Adam Lambert, Peabo Bryson, & Michael Bolton. These singers can shut it down.

ReplyDelete
92. I have, absolutely, no idea why people label that as 'Adele's song'? I've fallen victim to that also as I forget that it is 'Bob Dylan's' song. In actuality, Adele did re-popularize the song for a 21st Century audience - Bob rarely performed/performs it, refers to it, occasionally, as a "lost tune" and has actually said that it isn't one of his favourites (as he wrote it out of severe heartache and thought it was too distressing) but when both 'Billy Joel & Garth Brooks' recorded it, respectively, and released it he was surprised how well it was recieved, commercially speaking, and his opinion changed. Well, "Robert Plant" is none other than the lead singer of 'Led Zeppelin'.

Mr. Mercury was just 'ethereal', for lack of an even better word. He trained, and strained, his vocal cords to oblivion and, thus, the 'Bari-Tenor' was born. I want his nodules. LOL.

Peabo Bryson? YES. Ironically, he is highly underrated but is one of my all-time favourites. What a Beautifully- Rich Baritone voice he possessed.

ReplyDelete
93. I'd just like everyone to know that Britney Spears released Perfume early and it sounds absolutely amazing. Her voice isn't drowned out by autotune, and it's the first time we really hear her lower register since Oops!. The instrumental personally leaves more (or less) to be desired from it, and maybe a killer outro would be nice. But it still is a fantastic new release, and it's nice to hear a full legit ballad from her.

ReplyDelete
94. Also, in the last free for all Friday, I mentioned Pentatonix. I thought I'd also leave this video from them here. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QkR4asPMip4 A medley of hits from a certain singer I'm sure everyone here is familiar with. Other notable videos from them include the Evolution of Music, Pusher Love Girl, a mashup of As Long As You Love Me/Wide Awake, and End of Time.

ReplyDelete
95. OMG I was about to post it! That song is jsut amazing. Her voice is magnificent.

ReplyDelete
96. That was phenomenal. Scott's agility is on par with Beyonce's. His sense of melisma is magnificent. Without Avi and Kevin they honestly are nothing lol But anyway, that was a brilliant arrangement.

ReplyDelete
97. It's interesting how that happened, isn't it? Adele's rendition just sparked massive recognition. Why? I don't understand. It's similar to how people believe the song 'Up To The Mountain' is Kelly's 'cause it's an in the dark song, and when Kelly sang it phenomenally everyone gravitated toward it and took on the assumption that it was hers. Funny, 'cause the first time I heard "to make you feel my love" is when Kelly covered it, who did an excellent job by the way lol

That's a good way to put it lol I hold him as the ideal male vocalist. Mariah Carey reminds me of him in the sense that she achieved vocal calibre foreign to her natural fach.

Highly underrated vocalist. Don't know why he's slept on as much as he is. I love the way he can carry such a balanced mix into the 5th Octave. Not only that, but the squillo he has is killer. Definitely one of the "greats" in my honest opinion.

ReplyDelete
98. Originally I was wanting a more subdued "fragile" sounding instrumental. But now the more I listen to it, the more it feels right. Even though it's about cheating. Britney's keeping a more optimistic side to it, almost flirty, it's less Everytime and more Shattered Glass. But her voice is so on point, I thought it was hype when everyone talked about her voice but it really does sound beautiful.

ReplyDelete
99. I couldn't believe it was Britney singing....

ReplyDelete
100. I love absolutely all of them to death, they all bring something special to the group. But my heart completely belongs to Scott, I've had a crush on him foreverrrrr.

ReplyDelete
101. LOL. Yes, it is interesting how that happened.

In all honesty, I have never, necessarily, been that much a fan of Mariah Carey. I respect her dearly as a Woman with tremendous talent and who made fantastic Pop songs but as opposed to Whitney Houston, who I am a great fan of, she has never truly resonated with me.

I've always said, purely from a vocal standpoint, that "Mariah Carey is to music what Halle Berry is to Films". They are, both, two beautiful Women of whom gave their best work during the first 10 years of their career. Since then, Mariah's live vocal performances have been neither here nor there just as Halle's movie roles have been so uninspired. LMAO.

Whereas with Whitney, putting aside all of her problems, I always felt that she gave her all in whatever circumstance. She was so consistent. I moss her so much.

ReplyDelete
102. I'm sorry. Is her larynx in the correct placement completely throughout this song and there's not a grunt or a "HA!" to be heard at all? Do my ears deceive me? No but joking aside, it's great to hear a clear, soft vocal from the apparent "voice of the generation". It's just so pleasing to imagine a studio session with her where the words "Christina you're straining" isn't said.

ReplyDelete
103. I am also shocked. I am in love with the song! Britney and Sia really nailed it. They wrote a wonderful song. And her vocals are pure delight!

ReplyDelete
104. I actually think she sounds a little Aguilera'ish (which isn't surprising to me, she stated a few times she'd love to have her voice).

ReplyDelete
105. Not at all. in the verses, her darker timbre is actually her natural sounds, which is darker than Christina's natural sound. Like this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rdd4dlss7TA

ReplyDelete
106. To the person below me, it's not like she's not sung like this before. She's sung soft with great placement before. Anyway, love the song, love her vocals. She has such a beautiful voice which is very versatile.

ReplyDelete
107. Well, you can't know better what something sounds like to me. :D It doesn't sound similar to Aguilera's vocal manner to you, it does to me, end of story.

ReplyDelete
108. The song itself is kind of average to me but the fact that its Brit Singing like she used to when she was a child star is enough to make me love it.

ReplyDelete
109. Great placement, no grunts, and very clean delivery. Love it! And I would like to take a little time to address the "Voice of a Generation" title she carries around with her. It is not a testament to vocals. In anyway what so ever. The mantle "Voice of a Generation" is a title meant to address a persons influential power. Most people to have owned the title were not singers at all. The last great Voice of a Generation we had in the United States (that actually was able to remain themselves as great and not be subjected to degenerate slander) was Martin Luther King Jr. (not that Im comparing eithers philanthropic and civil justice activities to one another). So when people call her the voice of a generation, they may speak of her voice as special or whatever, but its more so meant to entitle the persons lasting influential power over the people that admire them.

110. So it means that christina's manufactured sound sounds similar to Britney's natural sound.

ReplyDelete
111. Beautiful, angelic vocals. I swear that's one of the sweetest female voices I have ever heard in a song (towards the end). She should explore the 'lighter', more natural side of her voice much more and make records with it. This sound is drastically different from the usual 'bigger' sound she produces with constricted larynx.

This also restores my faith in her that she hasn't lost it at all, as many people seem to suggest. In my humble opinion, Christina, along with Mariah Carey, remains one of the best sounding singers in U.S today.

That said, her 'big' sound in a live setting has the same effect on me as watching a 3D movie in 48 FPS. :p

112. link doesnt work anymore, try this one. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G5zV9O2o6Ns
I love the song, I love how natural she sounds here, I hope she's gonna make more songs like this, there's apparently gonna be no autotune in the album, not sure if I should believe that. I need to hear Sia's version of that song though

ReplyDelete
113. Of course I'd love to visit the world... in a teleporter...

ReplyDelete
114. Great, Christina, great... I wish she did more songs like this. Only "save me from myself" was sung like this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HYxmS4UNrWY

ReplyDelete
115. I don't know if there's gonna be a Sia Version of this song since they wrote the song together. It's not a song by Sia handed to Britney. Like Blank page that was originally written by Sia and given to Xtina, but she changed the verses so she is listen as a cowriter but what she did is changing the song after hearing Sia's Demo. I don't know I'm just speculating :P.

ReplyDelete
116. Great vocals; I've heard the song before without christina's vocals, but I truly enjoyed much better with christina. It's like her add has made the song even softer and more peaceful than it was at the beggining. But hey, DivaDevotee, why do I feel a bit of irony in your review about christina? I mean, I love her so much and sometimes I don't get why people are so mean with her sometimes. I'm not saying you were mean but I'm just asking about the irony. Plus, english is far from being my first language so maybe I don't always clearly get the message behind people's words Lol. Anyway, that was great and I didn't hear straining nor rasp in the higher part at the end, which tends me to beleive that when she does it, it's voluntary. Let's hope!

ReplyDelete
117. I just hate the fact that her fans are arguing "see she still can do it", when its more of a matter of "why didn't she deliver like this to begin with". Lol. she shouldn't have been sacrificing her vocal health to begin with. This is rather gorgeous and I did enjoy this over all despite the rather uneven mix on the higher 4th octave belt. If she can get that mix situated, and learn how to mix evenly in the 5th octave in that head dominated fashion, she just might be able to cover some ground that many people have stated she can't cover any more. Between her wretched B4 belts and her surprisingly intact D#6, there is over an octave of disconnection she needs to get under wraps. This doesn't mean I have faith in her. I still don't like her. I'm only pleasantly surprised, making an opinion based off of facts. Lol.

ReplyDelete
118. Really? You'd be less scared of the dis assembly and re assembly of your every atom than of an airplane? ;-D

ReplyDelete
119. While I'm still waiting for higher and louder belts, I was VERY impressed with the vocals on this record. When I kept hearing about vocal coaches and stuff from her, I was expecting to hear something more along the lines of this than her last single (which I enjoyed in its own right, but still).

ReplyDelete
120. Yes, but I also think it's both on the quality of her voice and her lasting influence and impact on music. She's been cited as a great vocalist by countless legends, other artist, and other individuals in the music biz.

ReplyDelete
121. this bugs the sh!t outta of me, the girl can obviously sing why oh why does she let people do that to her voice, if this what she could sound like all the time????? I love the low down huskiness and low belts. I read somewhere that when she was young she went to max Martin in Sweden and they came up with her recording voice. Her pop tones to me always sounded like a version of Madonna on material girl but unlike Madonna's Betty boop sounding phase britney chose to keep this and make it her signature. Early recordings of her voice on Broadway and Star search showed a very powerful deep voice Cher like if you will, I could never understand where it went or how could you just loose it...? turns out she didn't really, she just pulls it out once every ten years I guess dusts it off and makes a beautiful ballad.

ReplyDelete
122. Britney doesn't sing like that all the time because its vocally unimpressive. If Xtina, Mariah, Celine, Adele, Gaga, Katy, hell even Miley sang that song, everyone would be shocked by how flat, and nasally it was. Don't get me wrong, Britney can sing in tune, but her voice at it's greatest, was nothing special. At this point, it's shocking that she can deliver a vocal as "solid" as this, have you heard her speaking voice? She sounds like she is gasping for air at all times. This is only "impressive" if your comparing it to the vocals of other Britney songs. Better than bad will always look good i it is all your comparing it too. Selena Gomez and Taylor Swift have sang ballads just as "good".

ReplyDelete
123. That is true. They all have contrasts that blend well together & makes it all the more special. And you like Scott? haha.

ReplyDelete
124. Scott's like my music crush. I wish I had a voice like that with range and agility. If I had a more legit crush on one of them, it'd be Mitch haha.

ReplyDelete
130. Because her way is generally stupidly unhealthy and I don't advocate bad vocal health under any circumstances, therefore I must call a spade a spade....Be glad I said what I said because I could have made it much worse....

ReplyDelete
131. Her speaking voice sounds like that because she speaks with a high larynx at all times and uses vocal fry extensively. Her whole voice is used in a wrong way. She could be a good singer but she would need to go through extensive voice therapy and rehabilitation. She used to be great as a mouseketeer. But I still love her "Britney" sound. and she's still better than Selena and Taylor lol.

ReplyDelete
132. Here's the official audio that won't get deleted by copyright: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nmg811Vj3zU
I already commented a bit on this song from Free For All Friday, but I'd like to add that, yes Britney doesn't belt like any of the other divas, or always show off her range or power, but she has a beautiful timbre that's incredibly beautiful, it can range from vengeful (Shattered Glass), or fragile (Perfume, Everytime, Shadow), sensual (Slave 4 U, most of In The Zone) or straight up fierce (Till The World Ends, Womanizer, Gimme More). Like divas like Ellie Goulding and Madonna have shown us, a singer's talent isn't solely based on how much they can growl high notes.

ReplyDelete
133. There definitely is another version though, confirmed by Dr. Luke on twitter. He didn't say whether Sia or Britney sang it, but he said it's a lot more toned down.

ReplyDelete
134. Her vocals are okay. She sounds like an over dramatic (and less capable) Gwen Stefani. Though I do commend her for trying and somewhat succeeding at being less robotic.

ReplyDelete
135. Oh it must be Britney, I don't know why he would mention it if was Sia, and it would be unprofessional to release her version. I think it must be like Christin'a "I am" on Bionic, there's a stripped version in the deluxe album.

ReplyDelete
136. Well the other version is only a demo so far. Whether it'll be released or not isn't known yet. I do think it's unprofessional to release Sia's version, but I do somewhat hope it'll leak, just because she has an amazing emotive voice. I also hope the stripped version comes out too.

ReplyDelete
137. Sadly Mariah can't compete against Céline in live performances anymore.. And don't get me wrong am a huge Mariah fan , but she can't sing anymore live, her voice it's cracky all over the place , even though she learnt from Céline to use pre-recorded tracks, the french canadian girl still can pull out a live performance.

ReplyDelete
138. Seems like there's no other artist besides Mariah who can change their styles and try something new, and we bring up mariah 'cause its obvious you're a blind stan, sorry your diva is gone, her album will be a big flop like her songs Triumphant and Almost home, and don't you dare to bring #Beautiful 'cause it was a desesperate choice to get some attention she has lost. DAHHHHHHHHLING tell your diva to stop drinking alcohol and get a vocal coach.

ReplyDelete
139. Uh and tell her to dress up like the grown woman she is, and tell her to stop eating snacks 'cause she ain't sexy at all.

ReplyDelete
141. Christina singing with neutral larynx and Britney not using autotune? I think I'm in the wrong universe lol Jokes apart, I'm really happy for both of them (Specially for Christina, which I've always admired) for finally showing what they're able to do. Let's wait for more material!

ReplyDelete
142. OK, I love this video. I say Vanessa Amorosi won, followed closely by Mariah, then Solange (because her was actually live). I like Minnie's to because seemed to have the most effortless roll.

ReplyDelete
146. Yes, of course Spain is surrounded by many countries. We have France, the country that acused all of our sportplayers of doping with very disrespectful (to say the least) jokes about them, and well... there's also Portugal... http://www.yorokobu.es/wp-content/uploads/bigote-portuguesa1.jpg. People do stupid things all the time.

ReplyDelete
148. Thats true. People do do stupid things all the time. But its different when you do stupid things in the public eye when you have a ginormous fan base. There are countless people who look up to her, egg on her bad technique because they "like how it sounds", and even worse follow in her steps. And however insignificant you might think that is, there are several Aguilera fans I've ran into on this site alone who sing with Aguilera's "style" and have damaged chops because of the fact. I just want her to take some initiative and lead by example. Still though, people will follow her lead and sing with horrid technique even if she decides to act as a vocalist and sing with the best technique humanly possible. At least she'd be worth following, unlike now. She can't really be taken seriously when she sings with bad technique stylistically and her fans who know shit about music do the same which is ultimately my point. All subjective, mind you.

ReplyDelete
154. Anyone here know about Liz (Elizabeth) Gillies? She's an awesome singer and I sorta hate how she got shadowed by Ariana Grande and Victoria Justice on Victorious. Her cover of Jealous Guy really shows how expansive her lower range can be, I love the gentle tone. Overall, she needs to be showcased a bit more. I'm leaning towards a lyric soprano because of her lighter tone as she she ascends but her tessitura seems to be around F4 - G4. Weird. What do you guys think of her? Here are some of her covers.

ReplyDelete
160. Yeah ok. 0:17-0:22 is so identical to Christina it's uncanny.

Isn't it funny, though - Christina is naturally a light, bright soprano singer who ruins her voice by imitating a larger, deeper and darker sound (though if she used sound technique, she could achieve it or something like it healthily).
Britney is naturally a bit of a darker singer, and a mezzo (who would have no doubt a powerful voice is she used it properly or was taught properly), who strives for and creates a high, bright (albeit nasal) tone for her music.
If they'd swapped voices at birth I think they would've both been better off, haha.

AS FOR THE SONG; meh meh meh. I like hearing Brit attempt to sing again. I don't like this. It's boring.

ReplyDelete
161. she can do it bitch

ReplyDelete
162. There's now a live version of this: /watch?v=t_vtNwrru_E and she has kept it just as clean and simple as the recording.

ReplyDelete
163. She sang this live today on The Voice. It was a near-flawless rendition of the studio version. And here she proves yet again that she is a brilliant emotional singer with incredible versatility. Only yesterday she sang with Flo Rida on the same stage (I hated that song though, but that's not the point).

And people get 'excited' with sub-par live performances like Miley's (viz. 'Wrecking Ball' on SNL). pfft...

ReplyDelete
164. If that makes you feel better - yes.

ReplyDelete
165. I'll show you a bitch....keep fucking this way thot....

ReplyDelete
166. I know! People act like she can't sing with restrain, being known for something does not indicate monotonous vocal capabilities...

I come to the conclusion that these haters just listen to certain parts of her music or the ones who made it into charts then they just assume she can only strain and scream...

ReplyDelete
167. It is a fact that she has questionable technique YES, but there is no standard to which a pop singer can or cannot do as they please...

People who listen to her don't tend to listen to her technicalities, they listen for artistry.

You, Macabre, and Opie are just not very artistic because you only know and like one method of singing, either that or you're just jealous of her and will say anything and pull all sorts of biased vocal pedagogy to just talk shit.

YES ITS BIASED, When you only have one view or standard to which a singer should sing and not accept the FACT that she still delivers her art to millions of viewers, She can't please everyone. So obviously nothing you say on this site would make her sing any different..

ReplyDelete
168. What? Ok let me say this before I say what I have to say next. I only said what I said at the end of my comment above simply to piss Christina fans off because I knew y'all would take it in the butt.

Now this whole, not very artistic thing you are throwing my way is a bunch of bullshit. You make it seem like having a basic structure for singing let alone any other art work is completely illogical when people subconsciously do it. And seriously though, you don't know me well enough to make that type of allegation about my views on art. Nor will I tell you my views on art since you want to be a little naive ***** ****** of a piece of **** who can't comprehend **** because of the fact that you're such a ****. Now that's out the way I will tell you this... Without science, there'd be no art and vice versa. When ever you take an art class of any kind, don't they give you a curriculum of what exactly is needed to succeed in the art field...? No, because it obviously escaped you if it hadn't donned on you yet....

Its not that fact that you are entitled to your opinions that gets me riled up. Its your lack of depth of thought that sends you on a nonstop round of allegations and insinuations. If you're gonna continue to comment with me in the future.... please read shit carefully because ain't no body got time for a lack of critical thinking.... That is one thing that will make me say some shit about your life.... JS...

172. Primo Uomo Assoluto13 November 2013 at 13:31

You are absolutely right, she has a literal hole in her voice, it's very damaged. A voice's health is not measured by its high notes but by the evenness and smoothness of its middle voice (D4-F5 in a female voice).

ReplyDelete
173. Primo Uomo Assoluto13 November 2013 at 13:33

Do you even know the meaning of "Art"? Art means a cultivated skill/craft due to study or practice. It means doing something really, really well. In that sense alone, Christina is not an "Artist" as her craft is messy as fuck.

ReplyDelete
174. Primo Uomo Assoluto13 November 2013 at 13:35

Has she ever been able to belt out cleanly (and I mean pristine, like Lara Fabian) with vibrato above C#5? No? then yes, her vocal ability is very limited and monotonous :) I would expect "the voice of our generation" to be able to sing in different ways, not just forcing her voice.

ReplyDelete
175. In your opinion...

ReplyDelete
176. timbre and tone is the same thing ? please someone tell me

ReplyDelete
177. I don't care how high she goes or how clean she hits notes above the 5... I don't care. I really don't give importance to self expressive in technicalities.

Most if not all POP singers have habits or questionable technique, you can't point out one pop singer and forget the rest, Haters tend to forget she is not the only singer or "vocal great" That has a bad habit or bad technique, Nobody is arguing about her technique, in the world of voice pedagogy yes, it's not good, But Why are we still talking about this?

It does not matter! Someone can sing in an airy John Mayer voice with his scratchy, whisper voice that happens to also be vocally bad in it's way, but he is the singer and writer to his craft. It's not like you ever composed or came up with your own music..

179. Primo Uomo Assoluto14 November 2013 at 06:36

Why? because she has allowed her team to hype her as "the voice of our generation" and if THAT is the best our generation has to offer...damn...we're in trouble :)
But thankfully, no, she's way overhyped and far from the best voice of our generation. Beyonce, Vanessa Amorosi, SoHyang and oh so many others are better vocalists than her.

ReplyDelete
180. Primo Uomo Assoluto14 November 2013 at 06:39

No. In fact.
The original meaning of art is cultivated skill. If the skill is mediocre, it's a hobby, not an art.
And mediocre compared to what? To her peers. Of course, her stans love to compare her to non-vocalists such as Ke$ha in order to make her look good, but when compared to vocalists such as Beyonce, Vanessa Amorosi, Monica Naranjo, Lara Fabian, SoHyang, Anastacia...damn, the woman is annihilated.

182. Britney has delievered one of the most powerful and weighty ballads I have ever heard of in "Perfume". I gave it a A+ because I personally feel that the song alone does not make her sound like a pretty-faced auto-tuned robot and this song can relate to almost all girls. Lol I just love the song. I just wish it wasn;t autotuned that much, if not, I can bump up her grade instead of letting her be on the D grade of my blog.
