[Listen] Stop The Presses!! Britney Spears Doesn't Sound Like A Robot (or British) On New Single "Perfume"

OMG! No Nasal intonation! Britney Jean Spears, more vocals like this in the future, please! New song Perfume was so not what I was expecting from the Diva after the genericness that was Work B!tch. However, it's so different that I don't actually know how to take it right now.

I think I'm impressed. I'm definitely shocked! To think Britney supposedly co-produced this, too. Maybe that's why the vocals aren't as processed and robotic (dear I actually call them emotive?) as usual, and that the lyrical content isn't repetitive and mindless (which I'm not knocking, because I love a bit of mindless pop).

Perfume really needs a few more spins before I can firm up my opinions on it. I can say right now that I love the voice and am feeling the lyrics- both things which re-humanise the oft roboticised entertainer. I think problems might be found in the weakish production, but maybe it was purposely done to contrast the overproduction of Work and allow Britney's voice center stage.

This curve ball has me intrigued as to what the rest of new album, Britney Jean, sounds like. Not long to wait now!

Thoughts?

Despite being a huge Leona fan and really anticipating her Christmas album, I'm pretty sure it's not a bad vocal day. She's been performing with the same consistency lately. She has also gone really nasal and her registers are now very obviously disconnected.
She needs plenty of rest and some vocal rehabilitation.

  3. Leona is one of those Divas I have a love hate relationship with. I love her for her ballads, and her light vocals. I hate her for her inconsistency live with her stamina and arrangements. Its okay to substitute one vocal styling for another. Its different when you do it because you HAVE to and not because you want to. I actually (and may the vocal spirits of ages past have mercy on my soul) prefer Christinas screaming to Leonas wobbly vocals. Her tone is beautiful but her voice literally wobbles like its gonna give out all the time and it sounds kind of sad. I want Leona to really sit back and find a coach to help her connect her registers and learn how to do real vibrato and actual vocalizations of someone within the caliber and genre of singing shes associated with.

  4. That's slightly depressing to read. She's been away from the scene for a while, so I would have assumed her voice was rested.

  5. Yeah, the wobble is a pet peeve of mine too. I'm surprised at how her voice has become, especially since she's had formal training.

  6. she actually has tonsillitis so that's probably why she wasn't at her best. She's also just finished a film.

Nope! I'm pretty sure she spent some time recording quite an amount of songs for her Christmas album that's why she was out of the scene a while.

She did? I thought it was self-taught... :\

  9. She has received classical training, she also attended the BRIT school in her younger years.

  10. yep, she went to a few famous stage schools in London- I think Adele went to one of the same ones. I suppose since both have had vocal problems, that's not really a good sign of the training received there.. Though Wiki notes she started training in opera before she got to that school- which is why I always thought she had a nicely developed head voice.

She's been suffering from pitch problems A LOT in recent years, I wonder what's going on :/ I wish her all the best, I like her and her singing for the most part.

  16. I like her and I think her voice is very angelic, I did hear her voice somehow kinda peak.

Like She would be so good and impress me before, but now its as if she runs out of breath all the time and her high notes she tends to crack and go off pitch at times now.

Very talented singer for sure. I hope she gets voice training again, because I'm sure the pros would shape her back up. Cant wait for her album.
