[Watch] Lady Gaga delivers Slightly Sloppy Performance of "Venus" And "Do What U Want" @ X-Factor UK

Lady Gaga brought the ArtPop promotional trail to X-Factor (UK) today. Looking a little worse for wear, the Diva opened the medley with her first ever solo-produced track, Venus. The virtually a capella opening was indicative of the great standard of vocal that was to follow from the Diva- being well supported and well placed pretty much throughout. However, along with her appearance, the performance was, as a whole, kinda sloppy. I'm actually a little surprised to see a performer as accomplished as Gaga serving up something as unbaked as this.

It's actually disconcerting to see the Diva, who has just started the promotion for her third album, already looking exhausted. Hopefully it's not a sign of things to come, as the campaign is only going to intensify. But I'll get off her back because I'm not a physician and for all I know, it could have been some other reason-like her late night yesterday at G-A-Y- that was the cause of the rough edges around today's performance.

Thoughts?

  1. She hasn't said anywhere that Venus will be the third single - it's just promotional with a music video. I liked the performance. Vocals were great, only two flat notes in a 5 minute vocal performance, I loved the dancing and concept. DWUW was harder, she was dancing by herself which is really hard to make not look awkward. But I thoroughly enjoyed both.

  2. Her look is "purposely" like this, though. She has already stated that this era is going to be about stripping back and showing the world her "real self".

Though I agree the performance was a tad bit messy. I think it has something to do with her having to throw DWUW in there last minute since they changed the song. I honestly think she should have just performed DWUW since it's her current single even if it is chart ineligible until the album release.

  3. I look at Lady Gaga and see someone who's trying too hard to recapture a moment that's gone. So sad, cause she's too young and still fresh in this industry.

  4. I'm definitely digging the vocal a lot, even if she growled her way through a lot of it. I feel like her sloppy appearance might be intentional, because that's how she's looked for this era in all the photoshoots and performances. I do think that her dancing was maybe a move behind in some parts, but I'll forgive that because this is the X Factor, not her tour or the Grammys or what not.
I agree with Anthagio about the sloppiness too, Do What U Want was changed to a single just three days ago the last minute because of the popularity it got as a promo single, so they probably added the last half without a lot of planning time too, which is why it seemed like mostly improvised solo dancing. But I don't think it was too bad, and her voice sounded great most of all.

Definitely could have been better, but i like the vocals...

  6. yes it was sloppy
and i was kind of disappointed
she should have picked on song to perform or they should have separated the two performances - have her do venus the first performance then have her come on later in the show and deliver DWUW

the vocals were aight - not spectacular and you could tell how out of breath she was in DWUW

the highlight for me was the "I can't help the way I'm feeling" part
venus as a whole is an OKAY song it didn't blow me away like DWUW

i feel as though the choreo for venus is lackluster and was thrown together and rehearsed last minute because of the whole DWUW vs Venus single change but it is what it is - she just needs to get another choreographer - she could do so much better than richie (her current choreographer)

also DWUW should not involve so much movement and the whole piano thing during DWUW was kinda unnecessary - her weird movement on top of the piano made her run out of breath when i see her sing DWUW i see her belting her ass off next to R kelly in front of a mic with minimal movement

i also didnt really dig her playing the guitar - you can tell shes not a very skilled guitarist and if she wanted to have guitar in that first section she could have had her guitarist come out and play so she could focus on singing

  7. Hello everybody...

Here is a video of me singing my own, personal, version to "Jason Mraz's - I Won't Give Up". I uploaded it onto YouTube almost a year ago now, and haven't made anymore since (due to extreme personal difficulties) but I will be in days to come. Please leave your opinion, that would be much appreciated.

P.S: Could somebody tell me which kind of "Tenor/Baritone" I am? Light-Lyric or Lyric? I don't have a clue about vocal classifications at all. Thank you. - KEITH BOULTON.

  8. Ahh, if there was a song change at the last minute then that makes a lot of sense. She still rocked the vocals, though.

  9. I've read in loads of places about it being single number 3, but on searching I can't find any confirmation from Gaga herself. So I think you're right about venus being shelved as a single. Oh well.

  10. Wow! A non trolling post!! I am genuinely impressed! Thanks!

  11. I was loving the growl! As for her stripping things back, it does fit in with the aesthetics so far, but this was definitely messy as well as that.

  12. Yeah, what was with the Piano?! The backing was playback, so it wasn't even audible- if she was playing it! Was very odd. Perhaps it was to give her a chance to catch her breath.

  13. Vocally, Gaga's performance was awesome. Tons better than Pitchy Perry's earlier "Roar" effort. Yes, I wish the total production was better, but at least THIS girl can SING!!!!

i was disappointed too. i can't quite put my finger on what it is, but something i missing.

  15. Don't get me wrong, I definitely don't like the "look" of this era. It all feels messy and not really cute. But at least she's somewhat consistent, and it's not unbearable. And if her dancing and vocals are good, who am I to complain?

  16. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_dOk03D-48c I'M SO EXCITED. I don't wanna jump the gun, but judging by the snippet I think MJH is gonna be one of my favorites.

    ReplyDelete
  17. idk i thought i could hear her playing the piano but i just thought it was messy and nowhere near as good as she's showed us before
and i agree it may have been just for her to catch her breath - but she kinda lost her breath again when she started moving on top of the piano

i also think the crawling was kinda awkward in the beginning of DWUW - and the tripping and falling made her pitchy

studio version i much prefer the DWUW vocals over venus but during this showcase i think the venus vocals were much better than the DWUW portion

and even then, her sloppy performance is much better than katy perry's performance last time on x factor

  18. the vocals were good but the choreo leaves much to be desired - it looks like it was done last minute plus the seashells were kinda cheap and tacky looking - atleast the ones during swinefest looked legit

    ReplyDelete
  19. im glad its not a single

out of the whole song the "i cant the way im feeling..." part is the only wow moment for me
DWUW just works better and has better commercial appeal because its simple, has a message, but isn't too weird for people to consume

  20. HEY! what is the note at the end??? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vQHNIAXImC8 she belt very well!!

    ReplyDelete
  21. Well the video got blocked... Guess I'll never see it... Oh well.

    ReplyDelete
  22. i really dont like the snippet - the production COMPLETELY overshadows her voice and its almost inaudible

i also dont think the verses are fully grown - they could be so much more epic but i like that she had madeon produce it because its the perfect song to listen to when your high hahahaha

i really hope the full song is much better because this is such a let down and sounds like a filler track

  25. that wasn't "slightly sloppy" that was a hot mess! the Venus performance was lackluster and was something out of the blue,In DWUW, she was out of breath and awkward. Overall this is too disappointing and i thought she could never disappoint me since i don't have huge expectations to her nowadays but she just proved me wrong and im definitely clueless on what will happen on November 11, will Artpop sell or The Art of Letting Go do? Anyway DD, im totally shocked that you haven't posted a review about Celine's new song with Neyo which i can't remember the title since it's really forgettable... this is why I miss the chatbox, though i don't comment their much but it's more appropriate to suggest there instead of here.

  26. watch this, this is probably gonna be the slow, sad ballad you always find on Lady Gagas albums (Brown Eyes, Speechless, Hair). I wouldn't call myself a Little Monster or a Gaga Stan who praises Gaga to the death and beyond but I have to admit that her live performances are worth gold, especially her ballads. this is gypsy... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ubzTFLm0Q1M

    ReplyDelete
  27. gypsy was produced by ZEDD so theres no way its a ballad

i do agree though her acoustic renditions of her own songs slay

    ReplyDelete
  28. uh yeah it was sloppy but her vocals for the most part are good -except for very few flat notes - and how could you not expect her to be a little bit out of breath after doing choreo and singing

    ReplyDelete
  29. it wasnt a hot mess - just not up to par with her previous performances - the roar performance by katy was a hot mess atleast gaga delivered good vocals and did choreo

    ReplyDelete
  30. It's a EDM ballad produced by Madeon .-.

    ReplyDelete
  31. well now maybe she'll thought of doing a choreo that doesn't take too much of her energy so she can sing properly. i know she wanted to show feelings and emotions, but i just didn't feel it.. she's so unrelatable, i don't think she's maturing in the right way. she's trying to shock us but there's not shocking about her anymore since she showed everything already, getting naked, wearing something weird will no longer further her career. i wish that she'll make her materials something all of us can relate to and the fun-side of her seems to be gone or maybe she's no longer funny..

  32. the studio version of hair isn't a ballad either, but she makes it more ballad-ish in her piano versions, I hope it makes sense

    ReplyDelete
  33. It's not that it mixes, the piano C3 overlaps Gaga C♯3, I will not feed this discussion anymore, it sounds like a C♯3 to me, but if y all hear C3 I can't change it at all.

  34. Are you sure? I heard that RedOne produced it.
He even said on a inteview.

  45. Like I'd had a piano e-e.
It's not hard to use a tone generator

    I just go here
    http://www.audionotch.com/app/tune/

Write the frequency of the note, and tadah I find the right pitch.

    ReplyDelete
  46. I only listen to Gaga to hear individual notes that I achieve?

LOL '-'? Are u on drugs? I never said that.

I don't even state that I'm a pro on pitching lol, I said that I'm a total rookie at it.

And everyone uses a tone generator when they're trying to get the pitch of a note, even professional choirs need a conductor to pick the tone and guide them.

All this butthurt just due my comment of Bangerz? LOL seems that I'm not the only "stan" here.
