[Discuss] Lady Gaga Releases "Venus" Audio While Continuing to Mess-Up ArtPop Campaign

What is going on with Lady Gaga's promotional campaign this era? Artpop got off to an unplanned start when its lead single Applause leaked early, causing the campaign to start ahead of schedule. But that doesn't really excuse, or explain, what's been going on since then.

Venus was billed as the follow-up to Applause, and it seemed like control could finally be taken of the bolting horse. That was until preview/buzz track Do What U Want was (stupidly) released- spending all of ten seconds at number one on an Itune chart somewhere- prompting Gaga's team to give it second single status instead of the planned Venus.

Now that's fair enough. The reaction to the R. Kelly duet was good, so I can understand why they'd want to capitalise on a potential hit record. But with it getting the single treatment, why did team Gaga decide to confuse things by now releasing Venus -which is single number three- in its entirety. Surely it would have made sense to keep the public's focus squarely on Do What U Want, and not cannibalise and distract from it with a future single.

With the messy route being taken, the whole project is in danger of loosing the goodwill and anticipation that the months Gaga went AWOL built. I seriously don't understand how such a valuable commodity- to the record label- can be so dreadfully mismanaged, especially at such an important juncture in her career.

As for Venus, I like it. But it won't be replacing Kylie Minogue's Aphrodite as my favourite pop ode to a Goddess of love. Take a listen to it below, and let me know your thoughts on it and the ArtPop era in general.

Thoughts?

  2. I for one am glad that they/she decided to ride the wave and make DWUW the 2nd single as opposed to 'Venus'. Especially after I first heard the 'Venus' snippet. I personally wanted 'Venus' put on the back burner so that it wouldn't interfere with the commercial success of DWUW but that basic concept is
lost on some *eye roll* With that said, this song sounds SO disjointed, the 2nd chorus thing makes no sense at all (sonically) I know she produced this herself (idk why) but It's noticeable and NOT in a good way. I think it was released because there's already a video for it and it was already "promised" with dates and all. I guess it remains to be seen if this will help or harm the songs commercially, in the U.S mostly considering she's pretty much screwed herself over in the U.K with DWUW

  6. Her music, as of late, has failed to be "edgy/innovative/provocative" of any kind - something of which I know she is desperately trying to achieve and/or wants to be recognised for. I just feel as if she is now lost in the abyss of her own deluded, unbalanced world of which she believes herself to be the lone star on a world's stage. She was a true musical and entertainment talent for a brief period, circa. 2008 - 2010, but has quickly descended into a minor meteor ever since. 'The Fame' & 'The Fame Monster' were very well-crafted, Contemporary- Pop/EDM albums and, more or less, revived a musical era/trend that was much needed at the time. 'Born This Way' was, beyond, cynically contrived but, somewhat, unique in its sound/production and 'ArtPop', thus far, sounds worst than anything she has ever released yet even more corrupt.

Albeit, she can sing - I cannot deny her vocal abilities - but why isn't she making music that compliments her voice? I still feel that 'Rock/Soul/Blues & Indie/Alternative' would have made her just as famous.

"Neptune, Go, Now serve Pluto/Saturn, Jupiter, Mercury, Venus, ah-ha/Uranus, don't you know my sh*t is Famous?/Mars, Now serve for the Gods/Earth serve for the Stars. Take me to your Planet/Take me to your Leader/Take me to your Venus". WHAT?

  9. I agree, the release of this song this morning totally confused me because of DWYW. But apparently Venus is the promo single now, but still can we not release both songs within the same week?

Song wise, worst song off of ARTPOP so far. Like can we talk about the line "Aphrodite lady seashell bikini garden panty"? It has that same vocal delivery in the verses that was so annoying in Applause. But it's ten times messier.

  10. i totally agree about them losing all hype theyve created she kept under radar for so long and now its like she cant stop releasing shit - she just needs to wait

i feel as though interscope gives her TOOOOO much control
most artists these days arent releasing shit like gaga is stupidly doing

as for the song DWUW is a much better single choice IMO - it went number one on Itunes in 71 countries so people obviously like it

i mean venus has gone number one on itunes in 55 countries which isnt bad but im glad they switched singles

to be fair venus isn't officially slated as the third single sooo it doesn't really matter

i honestly prefer everything that is coming out to born this way
i do think she is trying too hard with this venus song (even though I can't get over the "i cant help the way im feeling" part)
but DWUW and Applause are solid singles

not to mention applause based on radio impressions has become her biggest song yet in terms of longevity

  11. uhhh she is - shes the one releasing all these songs all at once - what were saying is interscope should take initiative and take over and stop releasing "promo singles" and confusing people

  12. i agree but TF + TFM were not EDM whatsoever hahahaha
she didnt start truly incoporating EDM till this era when she brought in zedd and madeon to help produce some tracks

we havent heard much of what zedd has produced other than aura which was mostly composed by infected mushrooms anyways - just retooled and altered by zedd

  13. LOL.

Well, "House, Euro-Pop, Synth-Pop, Euro-Dance and Electro-Pop", five of both her first two albums premier musical stylings, are all derivatives of 'Electronically- Produced Dance Music', and are largely based underneath the wide-ranging EDM umbrella and so that is why I classified it as such. However, of course, those genre's are not 'Club/Rave- oriented' - "Trance, Techno, Jungle, Hardcore, Drum & Bass, Downtempo, Industrial/Progressive" - that is why their is such a brief misconception.

Nevertheless, I understand your point. Either way, her music has just, gradually, become more and more vapid and her image is, most definitely, not contributing to her cause.

  14. Honestly - I kinda like this song. Certainly NOT for a single, but as an album track it's fine.
