I am a sucker for a parody, so it's insane- or rather you guys are lucky-that I haven't flooded the site with reams of them by now! Heaven knows there are gajillion of them out there on the interwebs poking fun at our lovely Divas. Well today this changes, and I send out fair warning to all to expect this to become a regular feature on the blog, hosted under the "parody" label.
Note/ Disclaimer: I really like both of these songs, so don't take my choice to feature them being ridiculed as a sign of dislike. Also, I wrote the bulk of this post before Miley's crazy fun time at the 2013 VMA, so her featuring isn't any reflection on that "moment"- though the parody makes good points that are totally relevant to what happened there.
About the Videos featured:
Today's videos happen to be created by the same dude, YouTuber Bart Baker. I wasn't aware of him until sometime last week and it was actually because of him- and his take on Taylor Swift- that I decided to create this new segment on the site. Word of warning before we begin: don't be expecting subtlety or highbrow; this stuff is pretty trashy! Now that your sensibilities have been suitably modified, here comes the first!
Taylor Swift: Trouble
First up, we have Bart taking on Taylor Swift's I knew You Were Trouble. The original version had the country-pop star venting on an ex, and castigating herself for not trusting her better judgement by getting involved with him. He was "Trouble" after all. However at this point in T-Swift's career, trash talking past romances has become somewhat of a regular occurrence. Thus, it's no real surprise that that's what Bart focuses his parody on.
It's a funny ride that exaggerates Taylor's character into that of a psycho/stalker figure, who is the one actually responsible for the demise of the relationships. It's a take on her character that becomes slightly more believable when posted with this Gif of her at the VMAs, taken when (rumoured) ex, Harry Styles was on stage. [Boy am I glad I waited till after the awards to publish the post]
Now I'm not usually going to do these posts with two videos, but as I found both today [Edit: technically last week at this point] and they're both by the same guy, I thought why not combine.
Up next is Miley Cyrus's We Can't Stop. Now this is an example of someone pretty much reading my thoughts, stealing them and making a video with them. I want restitution, Barty boy! Okay, my thoughts weren't as funny, but I'm sure the gist of what was said in the parody is what me and most people thought the first time they watched the actual video.
This turned out more wordy than I intended! Next time it'll literally be the video and a paragraph, so you won't have to take a week off work/school/living to get through it! Oh and if you liked these, check out Bart's Blurred Lines parody- hilarious.
And yes, the MAD Tv parodies with Mariah, Whitney and Destiny's Child are coming later! Calm your britches. (Anyone who doesn't know what I'm talking about DON'T spoil it by looking them up now!)
Thoughts?
This is one of those times I really don't know how to react, I mean, it was REALLY funny, but it was equally disturbing...Taylor going into a mental hospital and Miley puking because of a overdosis... I don't know, I think I'll just let my reaction like this: o_______O On the other hand, I share with this guy the same thoughts about Liam Hemsworth: How the hell can he be thinking of marrying her? ._.
ReplyDeleteYou know Leith, when you love a person...
ReplyDeleteCan't watch the videos right now cuz there's an audio problem in my laptop and I'm not on mobile, but all I wanted to say was that Taylor Swift did not say STFU while One Direction was presenting. If you slow down the gif (or video) which is obviously sped up, you can see her saying "sorry for my arm" to Selena Gomez while taking her arm off her (as you can obviously see in the gif). I know it's hard to believe me because I'm a stan of hers, but that's all I have to say.
ReplyDeleteI only like witty parodies. Sorry Bart.
ReplyDeleteBut I do think you should consider applying for a job at SNL.
DD, if you like parodies, you should check out the Key of Awesome's parodies of like everything haha.
ReplyDeleteDon't bother Ahmed. Not funny, just a guy in a cheap wig repeating trashtalk going around on the net , to, I suppose one of Taylor's, tunes.
ReplyDeleteCheck out Key of Awesome.
ReplyDeleteAre they as unimaginative and cheap as this dude or are they like...cleverly funny?
ReplyDeleteLOL cheers Hannah, that's what I mean, I checked out the Miley one and that is actually clever and because of that funny IMO

I guess you're right but still... He must love her like Tyrion Lannister loves wine, because it's not only that her behavior has become unnaceptable, but also that her physical appereance has changed for the bad. I used to find her attractive but now she's gotten too skinny and kinda gives me creeps...
ReplyDeleteOh, I've seen enough of this trash. Not gonna bother. Thanks Opie.
ReplyDeleteLove this dudes Diva videos. He does Cher so brilliantly!
ReplyDeleteI have already! They'll be making an appearance at some point ;)
ReplyDeleteI did warn you to lower your expectations! And am I detecting http://25.media.tumblr.com/e2a907fdd5a47db89549e7161a4cdc8f/tumblr_mn6khm6knq1ss8oplo1_400.gif .I haven't watched SNL in years so I'm not sure how to take that! lol
ReplyDeleteYou won't like it! Listen to Opie! RUN FOR THE HILLS!
ReplyDeleteYou definitely won't like the Mariah/ Whitney one, then. In fact I think that might enrage a few people....I'm already getting palpitations thinking about it!
ReplyDeleteEh, I've seen this type of parodies before, the one that portrays her as a boy-crazy immature girl waiting for a guy to marry her and have kids with her and a psyco ex-girlfriend who cannot get over a break-up, so unless someone makes a more original parody, I won't be watching.
ReplyDeleteIt's not that I didn't like it, I actually laughed a lot, but it was also really shocking, specially the endings. It was... like when you see a friend of yours having a very hard fall and you go to help him really worried about him, but at the same time you can't contain the laugh. By the way, I guess I can imagine what Whithney's video will be about, but Mariah? I don't know much about her but I think she's never messed up very much, has she?
ReplyDeleteI haven't either DD...for a reason. I think that means you did guess correctly.

You know Leith, maybe Liam just isn't the shallow kind of guy who cares that much for her appearance. You know, the kind worth dating and spending the rest of your life with.
ReplyDeleteAnd also, i don't think societal norms or expectations should dictate how she acts. I think it's admirable that she does what she wants, even if I'm a bit repulsed by it.
He certainly seems to have stuck with her quite a while now for people that young and in show biz.
ReplyDeleteWe all care for the appereance, that's a fact, but of course I didn't mean he should leave her because she has become too skinny, I'm sure there's other things about her that makes him love her, I was just talking about the things I can see.
ReplyDeleteAnd I know that society shouldn't dictate us how to behave, but I think there's a limit in what you can do in a public event that many kids are gonna watch. I mean, if she wants to twerk and rub a foam finger down there in the video of her song, that's great, but doing it in front of so many people in a program that many kids saw it's not acceptable. what if it had been a man doing that? I'm sure your opinion would have been quite different.
By the way, I just read on the internet that Liam is quite upset for her behaviour. He knew she was gonna twerk in the show and because of that he decided not to attend to the ceremony, but it looks like he didn't know she was gonna do all those things to Robin Thicke and now he says he's really upset in her.
LOL My advice Leith, would be to never believe any account that has the words "an insider told us" in it.
ReplyDeleteAny word on what Robin's wife thought of his part in the performance? ;-)
I know I shouldn't believe what unknown sources say, but it's not like they were saying that he hit her because he was ashamed of her performance or something out of normal. They're just saying that he is upset for her behaviour, and to be honest, "upset" sems to me like a light word to describe what I would feel if I was in his shoes. I also wonder what Robin Thicke's wife thought about that (Although I can almost imagine) but as I said in the actual post about that performance, there's a few moments in which you can see he's not comfortable at all, he even makes her a signal to stop doing that.
ReplyDeleteAbout both Kelly's responses, I guess you're refering to those people calling the performance racist and all that jazz. I don't think that the performance was racist or that it had some extra meaning either, as I commented in the post. I also think it was just a disgusting performance.
You basically are saying that because you would feel like that, you are just going to go ahead and assume so is he.
ReplyDeleteBut would you be with someone like Miley in the first place? Doesn't sound like her personality suits yours.
It would therefor be more logical to assume he is likely not feeling about this what you are feeling.
Because frankly, if I was him I'd be like.."well, honey, obviously that act failed" and laugh it off.
As for the Kellys responses. no, not referring to racism accusation. Just thought they were funny and realistic/rational responses. It was after all just a VMA performance.
Not like any human or animal, other than stuffed bears, were harmed in the course of the performance. ;-)
Well, I wouldn't go out with Miley because she lacks something I find essential in my couple: a penis xD But if we talk just about personality, I guess that in the The Climb era I would have probably dated her if I had had the chance (Of course, I'd need to know her a bit more) and even in the Can't Be Tamed Era, because in that video she seemed sexy unlike in We Can't Stop, which is just disgusting. Also, Liam and Miley started dating when she was still a Disney star, so he may not like the new personality Miley had adopted. Anyway, I guess we have different points of view about what we would have thought if we were dating her, because I'd definetly be angry as hell after watching her doind that.
ReplyDeleteI don't think the reason that nobosy asked Robin Thicke's wife opinion has something to do with the F word, I think it's just because she's not famous (Or at least I haven't seen her in any media here. Actually until Blurred Lines come out I hadn't seen Robin either)
LOL problem here is, you seem to judge her as a person solely on her videos and performances. Maybe you should check out some interviews?
ReplyDeleteSingers do not change their actual personality with every album they drop you know. ;-)
I have to admit that you're right: I haven't seen much of her outside of her video. I've actually just tried to find some interviews to see how she's like outside of her music, but unfortunately in all of them they ask her about her video so I haven't had the chance. I still disapprove what she did at the VMA, but yeah, you totally have a point, I shouldn't be judgin how his boyfriend must feel about her when I don't know her outside of her music. My apologies.
ReplyDeleteOh, just a little aclaration, when I commented about the penis, I meant that I'm gay, not that I like women with penis. I just want to make it clear just in case xD
Well, yeah, one has to make that clear these days. But I got you the first time. :-)
ReplyDeletehttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lganBinofAg
Well that interview was before WCS, but I've watched it anyway and I have to admit that the girl is quite funny, specially when talking about twitter
ReplyDeleteI watched two of those recent interviews which are tagged to be about her latest single and I think you get a different perspective watching her talk about it than you get from random quotes.
ReplyDeleteBut ..I won't bore you with those.
And frankly, I am actually not that interested in Mley. Just always dislike these hate campaigns and tend to start "defending" if I think the person is or might be unworthy of such a campaign. ( not that I am saying you were exactly hating on her but I felt you were unfairly judging her on too little information). Time to move on I think? :-)
this is funnier
