[Music Video] Ariana Grande & Nathan Skyes Romance On "Almost is Never Enough"

Ariana Grande, Nathan Sykes

For those who wanted a change of pace from Ariana Grande after the up-tempo style of singles The Way and Baby,I, new song Almost is Never Enough should satisfy you.

The piano-led ballad features a surprising choice of duetting partner in The Wanted's Nathan Skyes. Even more odd is how different his voice sounds to the way I remember it being on any of his group's singles. I'm actually shocked at how good his voice actually is.However, much like with Ariana, his delivery feels to be more imitation than innovation, so I'm reigning in my appreciation a little at this point. Further singles from the singer may change my mind.

Still, this Boyz II Men homage is making me feel all warm and nostalgic, so I can't hate on it.

  1. Now that dude sounds what I would call nasal...or rather, make that Nasal.

Oh, God! The hoe stole the whole "Angels' Cry" video clip concept. Why can't she forget about my girl Mariah? Stop it, hoe. Stop it right now.

  3. Lyrically the best I've heard from Ariana but damn...it doesn't say much...Anyways, screw her sideways and move her along because I'm more interested in the fella she partnered with for the duet. I though he was going to be a very squeaky tenor just from aesthetics alone (We've all judged people by how they look, so shush!!! LOL) but he proved my prejudices wrong. He has a nice centered (pitch not placement) tenor voice but no mix at all. When he got high in the fifth octave I could here him singing in the mask. He got bright but constricted, and needs to lean back on HV a little. His delivery was aggressive and fairly nasal, but I liked it all apart from those high belts at the end. I'd be afraid to hear him sing this live though. He doesn't come off as too resonant based off of how constricted and nasal he was, but none the less plenty of potential with a nice tone.

    No comment for Ariana's part.

  4. Their voices compliment one another and Nathan's style reminds of John Legend xD
Overall, I'm satisfied. Wasn't a wowzer, but definitely an upgrade!

  5. Holy shit, just get out. Not everything is about Mariah. Just because Mariah breathes in oxygen doesn't mean that everyone else is copying her. You need to sit your little basic ass down and shut up.

  6. Ok, a quick lesson about Luiz... You are feeding the Capuchin figs...

  7. I know. I gotta stop it. It's pointless.

  9. He could use some polish. Hell, they both could, but I ain't complaining. They did really well.

  10. Not seeing it. And I usually spot the Mariah similarities,

  11. Not that Nathan cannot sing, but I think their voices clash and they could've found a better duet partner who suited her tone more. Also, the arrangement is quite spotty, it sounds as if it was originally intended as a solo and then they added in the male vocals to spice it up. Should be rearranged.

  12. I do enjoy Nathan's voice, I thought The Wanted's "I Found You" was a great song and he sounded great in it. But I was almost shocked when his part started, their voices definitely clash a lot. The song, while it was basic, I appreciated the very simple instrumentation with piano and snaps, I thought it captured a good amount of emotion, and while it's not groundbreaking, it's a nice breath of fresh air, at least in my opinion.

  13. Nathan's part really put me off, which is a pitty since I loved Ariana's vocals in here. The lyrics were also great, and although some may consider the instrumentation was kinda basic, I liked it: it needed a calmed atmosphere and that instrumentation totally got it.

I just hope she makes also a solo version of this or sings a duet with another singer, then I'll definetly buy *coffdownloadcoff* it ^^

  23. I just don't understand why they chose him. Seems like such an odd pairing to me.

  24. Love your commentary on voices!

  25. Sorry, luiz but you're derogatory manor has led to me banning you. Final straw was you calling someone the dreaded C Word.

  27. No problem DD!

  28. I do know that The Wanted and Ariana share the same manager, Scooter Braun. That's probably why.

  29. I'd be really glad if she did. It's not only that I didn't really liked Nathan's voice, but also that he seemed to be trying too hard instead of leting it flow like Ariana did.

  30. This was nice and that's about it. Not gonna lie though, this Nathan guy from the wanted surprised me. I wasn't expecting him to actually be a decent singer after what I've heard form the wanted. Also, It's nice to hear Ariana sing with some clarity as opposed to that forced nasal quality that she loves so much.

  31. Also, I feel like Ariana needs to work on her harmonizing.

  32. Thanks. He has the exact same issues I have so they were easy to point out. But as of lately, my voice has been sounding warmer from my lows, mids, and low belts. My upper belts are still steely. To me, this Nathan dude doesn't have quite enough balance to his voice. He has a gorgeous nasality, modest volume, and quite a malleable tone but doesn't know what to do. Not only that but those harmonies were a bit dissident. Ariana's not the most chesty belter and Nathan has nothing but chest. Nathan should have went for a more heady approach. Overall, not a bad paring IMHO. Still though, both of them have very nice potential, especially Ariana... And she better start living up to my expectations soon (She is stepping ever closer LOL).
