We're still waiting on the radio/album version for Celine Dion's new single, Loved Me Back To Life, after hearing the Diva début the song live at a concert. However, while we wait, we can now enjoy Sia Furler's demo of it, courtesy of a leak somewhere in the musical pipeline.
Knowing it had been co-written by the Australian, I did wonder how Sia would have tackled the vocal of the song had it been her own. But like with Diamonds, my imagination was spared the pain of having to work when the real thing materialised on YouTube.[See her singing Diamonds here]
I have to say, after hearing this demo of Loved Me Back To Life, I don't think I'll be able to listen to Celine's version without Sia's ringing mezzo ghosting the Diva's vocal. One part of me wishes that Celine had switched it up a little more, but a larger part knows that it's Sia's melody that makes the song so intriguing. To change it probably would have been foolish. But what do you guys think? As always, let me know!
Thoughts?
I like it so much than Celine's somehow...
ReplyDeleteSia has that something that goes with the song more (entire subjective of course I know)
I think switching is up would have been foolish like you said, this style just fits the song very well. That said, I much prefer Celine's powerful voice for this song and I can't wait for a high quality version.
ReplyDeletesia's version is far better!! when i first heard celine sing this song i automatically like it, but sounded to, i don't know, formal? while i was listening to sia sing the song i was dancing and bopping my head. sia's raspy voice brings (imo) the much needed attitude to the song i think it lacked when celine sang it.
ReplyDeleteI am not going to give my opinion again...I am afeared. ;-)
ReplyDeleteJust going to upvote duncs
I like how both delivered but to me Sia brought a certain realism to this bombastic song. I enjoyed both versions but Sia made the song seem like it was coming from a place of experience (idk how) if that makes sense. Celine carried youth with her version (her nasality? IDK) but both versions are great.
ReplyDeletewhat's the matter? The song is a disgrace! God! And that's why it's gonna be a HUGE hit for Celine. Now she has material to compete with Justin Bieber, Rihanna, Katy Perry, Beyonce - all those kind of crap.
ReplyDeletebitch - as ALWAYS.
ReplyDeleteMove along now child.

I don't see how anyone doesn't know the definition of afeared. it even gives itself out with the spelling. LOL.
ReplyDeleteNormally I wouldn't think so either Ricky but recent experience inspired me to post the link preemptively ;-D
ReplyDeleteBest thing about this comment is that Mariah has been trying to do duets with people that are actually relevant for how long now? And she's still nothing more than a shell of what she used to be. I also don't see how anyone could put Celine, or Beyonce, in the same category as those people but I guess all non-Mariah artists are the same to you.
ReplyDeleteYou're right though, it's going to be a huge hit. Glad one of the vocal trinity is still putting out decent work.
I will not talk about Mariah on other's singers' post. Grow up!
ReplyDeleteBabe, There were NEVER a trinity, there were only two great singer: MC and Whtiney. Sorry! Celine was NEVER relevant. Sit down and jerk off, U're too pressed and too tense. LOL.
maybe it's you. Stop being a bitch and maybe you'll find happiness. lol
ReplyDeleteWhilst I do find Sia's voice to be very pleasant on the ears I will hold out for Celine's studio version, I just love her voice more....this is a great song though too! Not entirely sure if it will give CD the chart hit she could do with but its most definitely a respectable come back song!
ReplyDeleteOh God! I lived to see the day that Celine picked a material similar to Rihanna's hehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehe kkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkk It sounds like Diamonds, in a bad way. LOL!
ReplyDeleteOh hon, stop worrying. You are the bitchier on the blog. :-)

no. U owns the crown.
ReplyDeleteI really think this could be a big hit for Celine, depending on how she plays it. But whatever happens, I'm definitely looking forward to the album. Have missed celine!
ReplyDeleteI'm actually a little torn, but I'm going to wait for the radio version before I really make up my mind.
ReplyDeleteSo have I ! As you said tho, I need to hear the studio version before I can make up my mind on which version I like best. Bear in mind this was performed at the very end of a long live concert, and it was her first time singing it. This could be the reason she doesn't sing it as its best, emotionally as well as technically.
ReplyDeleteThis track's destiny:
ReplyDeletestudio version = autotune = a lifetime of lip sync performances. Pitty!
Same here. As much as I love Céline, Sia can clearly hold her own. Should be interesting!
ReplyDelete6 now Lol. I +'d 1.
ReplyDeleteI make that 7 in that case BlackRobin. You forgot to count me. ;-)
ReplyDeleteYeah, you are right...who am I kidding.
ReplyDeleteWhich brings me to...I presume that was English you were going for? ;-D
calm down, hoe.
ReplyDeleteTone it down dude!
ReplyDeleteBad enough you calling people "hoe" who will never read your potty mouth inspired comments but I will not stand for being addressed thus.
Your mother must be so proud of you.
ReplyDeleteI love Sia's amazing voice.
ReplyDeleteJust listening to this song, I detect some similarity to Rihanna's voice (that I've never heard before). Makes sense that Rihanna would sing Sia's song.
Sia wrote Diamonds if you didn't know that already.
SOMEONE MAKE A VOCAL PROFILE FOR SIA!!!!!! HONESTLY I HAVE BEEN WAITING SINCE LAST YEAR FOR HER PROFILE TO COME
ReplyDeleteAmen!
ReplyDeleteVery powerful voice. Lower end Mezzo or (pop contralto - that's what I'm calling them) like Pink, Rihanna, Lana Del Rey. I have a range for only one song - Titanium. she's singing from G3 thru D#5 with no head voicing.
Lower mezzos aren't "pop contraltos", a lower mezzo is a lower mezzo...
ReplyDeleteContraltos are pop contraltos.
Lana isn't a mezzo btw, her voice sits inbetween light-lyric soprano and mezzo, she's a dugazon soprano. She's a light-lyric soprano who trained her self to handle the low tessitura that she is noted for.
I guess we should just stick to calling them lower mezzos then but I so often see them listed as contraltos. I just suggested "pop contralto" to separate them from obvious opera contraltos who are extremely rare.
ReplyDeleteYou're better at this than I am. I admit I miscategorize singers often. I tend to favor weight and depth of voice more into the equation than just notes.
For example, how would you categorize Luther Vandross (who I categorize as a lyric baritone with a very high range)? and how would you categorize Karen Carpenter (who I say is a lyric contralto)?

ReplyDeleteShes has an amazing vibrato!
ReplyDeleteIt seems that many prefer Sia's version. I have to admit that I absolutely fail to see her appeal.
ReplyDeleteOr perhaps Titanium ruined her for me.
