[Listen] Katy Perry's "Roar" Leaks! But Is It Any Good?

Katy Perry's new song Roar has leaked two days before it was meant to premier! EEK! To anyone wanting to hear it, check out the lead single from upcoming album Prism at this link : Listen To Roar.  (sorry about sending you elsewhere to hear it, but it's a Tumblr site, so you'll be safe)
below!

Hmmm, interesting. It's not quite grabbing me by the jugular, but I like that Katy's taking a risk with a sound that is definitely maturer than that which was featured on her last album, Teenage Dream-which let's not forget spawned eight top five hits on the Billboard charts.

It'll be interesting to hear if Prism continues down this path, or if the rest of it is more akin to the processed pop of its predecessor. Only time- or another leak- will tell!

Edit: Lyric Video:

Thoughts?

  1. i think this more maturer sounding music is good for her, the music industry is changing once again and she is adapting to change

It's not totally different from TD, but it's not totally generic either... A good blend of safe and risky for the stage of her career...

  5. It's a bit more mature. But the verses are weakly-written and it's not really risky tbh.

  6. I like it. I should listen to it a few more times though. She had a good trip in hell to record her new ablum. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B9uqcB9bZZY

  8. I actually don't find it to be any more mature at all. It's on about the same maturity as Wide Awake and Part of Me, though I guess you could say it's better than Last Friday Night. I'm pretty disappointed, it's a stereotypical Katy track to me.

  9. eh its ok i guess, not something that grabs me either but if it was on the radio i might hum along. oh and is it just me or is this really similar to sara bereilles song brave....and i actually like brave alot more, sorry Katy maybe next time.

  10. I was expecting SO much from 'ROAR', not because of the fact that I think Katy is talented but because of the fact that there are other Divas planning to release albums this year I thought that Katy would bring her A game and this most definitely isn't it. As previously stated it's pretty blah, not terrible or bad it's very safe but not something I would expect as a lead single from ANY album.

  11. It's okay. It's catchy. I don't think it's amazing enough to be a lead single after a 2 year wait. I think it's safe enough to be a fairly big hit for Katy. She'll probably still "win" the "battle" against Gaga because KP has more hype, and no one likes Gaga any more. Judging by the "leak" of Aura/Burqa, Roar will still be better quality pop than anything Gaga and her team will come up with.

  12. Nice song, catchy, but nothing special. Wonder how is Gaga going to end up in this "battle", nobody believes her, even i don't ( and i was called a stan ) not after Born This Way. I loved all the songs from TFM, i have strong relationship to all of them, but that only happened to 3 songs on BTW. Hope things are gonna change, i have to admit i already like Burqa more than Bad Kids or Government Hooker. I still hope she will surprise and bring what people loved about her !

  13. Alright Back! Now that I got it thanks to @Ricky Yong Chin Yuan. I LOVE it for some reason. I recognise why some wouldnt think much of it. But its so GOOD to me. lol. Dont expect any sort of really educated opinion when it comes to me and Katy. I recognize her flaws but cant help but love her. Hated most of Teenage dream but LOVE Roar.

  17. this is such a generic song...
and ill admit i dont like katy perry because she the epitome of generic pop music which the general public feed off because its not complicated and easily consumable

i miss katy's one of the boys days when you still heard the indie girl trying to call out - thinking of you will and always has been her best song IMO
and pop anthems like teenage dream are no doubt impactful
but ROAR is nowhere near as good as teenage dream

  18. lol just because something is a commercial hit doesnt mean its quality LMFAO
and obviously not there is way more hype for gaga whos been under the radar for far longer - and this is the official song
burqa was a demo - and its not even for sure that any of that is used in the final product

  19. Funnily enough, people are already cutting it side by side with "Brave" by Sara Bareilles. No lie, the two songs sound fairly similar.

I didn't compare this song to Brave. I compared this song to mostly Sara Bareilles' whole discography. She has this thing with up-in-yo-face anthems. King of Anything? I guess Brave counts as that too.

  21. Is it any good? No.

  22. Speed it up a little and turn up the bpm and it will be alright.

  23. I prefer this over Applause, but only just but again its very generic and akin to many a pop song done before, the one element of positive ether I can think of is that her voice sounds slightly less processed, but not much. Overall though I am a tad underwhelmed! Maybe that is due to my tastes becoming far more refined over the past few months....

  24. Roar? More like Snore. Katy is so overrated imo and everything about her says nothing more than AVERAGE to me.

  25. Both this and Applause are generic and safe in my opinion, especially as lead singles.

  26. Cute, extremely "cookie cutter" pop single with an uncanny resemblance to this Sara Bareilles tune http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QUQsqBqxoR4
Honestly no idea how they got away with that ripoff
