I'm wagering everyone in the world already new this, but I just found it out, so here goes: Pink originally recorded Whataya Want from Me! Say whaaat!!! That's not all, she co-wrote it (with Max Martin, and Shellback) for her album Funhouse, but for some odd reason it didn't make it onto the finished product. Fast forward to 2010 and her version finally gets a release on the international copy of the Greatest Hits... So Far!!!, allowing us all to hear it! (So I'm only 3 years late to this party!)
After initially being rejected by our pop-rock princess, the song made it to the hands of American Idol runner-up Adam Lambert, who promptly nabbed it for his 2009 début album, For Your Entertainment. And what a smart move that was, because it gave him his first Billboard top ten single, and it scored a Grammy nod for Best Male Pop Vocal Performance! So all seems to have worked out well in the end!
But what do you think? Do you think Alecia should have kept Whataya Want from Me for herself? Or do you think Adam's voice was better suited for the track? Let your voice be known by commenting and voting in the poll, below.
[Highlight for my opinion: As much as I love Pink, I have to give this one to Mr. Lambert. His vocal brought more emotion and more variety to the track than Pink did. ]

Thoughts?
i went for pink, i love lambert's vocals on the song and in general ,he's a true diva powerhouse but now i have heard pinks rendition i see so clearly that its HER song. i loved funhouse and it was on repeat for me alot ( my favourite being an off album cut called why did i eve like you) and hearing this its very much in the same vein as the album. its like a missing piece or a jigsaw with other pieces fitting perfectly fine but hearing this its clear its the true fit.
ReplyDeleteP!nk's version feels so much more personal, mainly because of the line "he messed me up" versus Adam's "it messed me up". I feel like Adam sang it in a way so that everyone could inject themselves into the song and relate to it, while P!nk's just feels much more personal.
ReplyDeleteI prefer P!nk's but in all honesty, not to big a fan of the song.
ReplyDeleteMy feeling as well..Pink sounds more personal.
ReplyDeleteAlso on a side note, though I enjoy Adam's singing, there's something unpleasant to me to his face. Haven't yet figured why.
i love both artists
ReplyDeleteand even though i dont usually like pink's single choices, i have always had a special place for her voice in my heart idk why
and even though adams voice sounds better during the chorus i prefer pink's voice on the verses
plus i just perfer pink's voice over adam's in general even though i find adam to be more a powerhouse singer than pink
*prefer
ReplyDeleteI don't dislike either, but I prefer pink's version to adam's because her voice just resonates with me more on this track. it truly sounds like she felt the lyrics.
ReplyDeletePerhaps because pink wrote the track it comes across more genuine?
ReplyDelete"there's something unpleasant to me to his face"!! lol Ouch!
ReplyDeleteLove the album! Straight after writing this I went and put it on- had forgotten all about it. The tour was amazing too!
ReplyDeleteExactly my thought!
ReplyDeleteP!nk definitely!
ReplyDeleteSort of decadent feel to it Elvis also had. Didn't change him being an awfully good singer either, nor me liking their music. ;-)
ReplyDeleteI sounds like Pink sang it after some drinks; while Adam put all of his heart on it. Adam still a winner, even though I don't like him.
ReplyDeletePink is just freaking amazing!
ReplyDeleteI never realized how ... oddly similar they sound. Hmm.....
ReplyDeleteImmediately after reading the title it registered in my mind that her voice would be perfect for this song, and that their voices are (as many have already stated) very similar. To be honest I can't really pick between them, maybe I prefer Adam's slightly because he was more aggressive vocally which for some reason resonates with me lol. Their versions are ALMOST interchangeable really great!
ReplyDeleteAdam sang it better to me, his vocal approach and high acrobatics at the end really sold it and hit it out the ball park to me. I honestly feel like most of the song it's about even because the only difference is their is a female vocal and there's a male vocal, but it's the same approach. But considering P!nk recorded it 1st, Adam did have more room to do more and make it much more special.
ReplyDeleteI agree with the sentiments here of P!nk injecting genuine feeling with her version, I bought what the song was about from her. I do appreciate Adam's version though too, maybe because I heard it before P!nks, his voice is certainly stellar on this recording in particular but overall my money goes to P!nk :)
ReplyDeleteBoth were awesome. I would love to see a duet between these two. It would be stellar.
ReplyDeleteI love both....
ReplyDeleteBut i love pink better....
Of elvis had a son with Dracula, it will be Adam... lmao
