I have no idea what the name of the song that Gospel superstar Tamela Mann was singing, but I do know that she was vocal a beast; bringing class, emotion and voice to the 2013 BET awards. Me and organised religion aren't exactly friends, but that didn't stop even me feeling the conviction of this performance.
Keeping the vocals tight, Tamela refrained from the embellishment and melisma that is often synonymous with the genre, and leaned on the power of her voice to spread the "good word". The result was a rousing performance that had many in the audience on their feet.
Thoughts?
This was a great song. Vocals were very on point, I also happen to agree with your opinion/thoughts 100%. Kudos to her. Wow. Amazeballs. :o
ReplyDeleteThe song is "Take Me To The King", well, I'm just guessing.
ReplyDeleteThat part was repeated quite a bit.
It is take me too the king I love her voice
ReplyDeleteI expected so much more after the build up of the article. Didn't get it. :-(
ReplyDeleteThis still is my favorite gospel song ever next to Tasha Cobs "Break Every Chain". I don't know what else to say. The slight band mishap made me cringe but she recovered well. Still though, my favorite voice in gospel.
ReplyDeleteWOW, My favorite performance of the night. She stood there, singing to God. What a performance.
ReplyDeleteyou are right!
ReplyDeleteAs much as I like Mariah, she must have been shaking in her boots at this performance after her own shoddy one.
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely astounding! I truly loved this performance, I like others (whilst born into the christian church - yet refuse to actively follow) would often dismiss gospel for the messages alone but really didn't matter here. What mattered is I felt every word she sang, that's two down (between this and Michelle's ditty) that I have enjoyed. Perhaps a life in the priesthood still beckons? Minus the negative stereotypes though, there are some tags even I don't want!

I enjoyed the performance. I kinda fell in love with the song at first listen back in November. Anyways, her band messed up and they missed my favorite part of the song but I really, really, enjoyed it none the less...Though she still didn't manage to recover. You'll see the mishap in the middle of the song and at the end. Nothing major though.

ReplyDeleteI love her TV show, "Meet the Browns"...She is supported by Tyler Perry and is one his funniest actresses and very genuine in front of the camera.
ReplyDeleteBlack don't crack ;D
ReplyDeleteHaha indeed, I realised this perfectly when doing the Patti profile! Maybe its also true what they say.... 'Once You Go Black, You Never Look Back' ;)
ReplyDeleteCareful Stuey, they also say this ;D http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=saXBRA_4n5g
ReplyDeleteI am really surprised at how impressed people are with Tamela and her tune.
ReplyDeleteSeriously, must be my atheist soul but I'm really not feeling it.
I'd much rather listen to Sister Rosetta Tharpe. The Coolest gospel singer ever LOL
