We've all been wondering what has happened to Beyonce's fifth studio album. This was supposed to be the year "King B" came back for her throne, making us all Bow Down before her greatness. It all started so well too, with huge amounts of publicity being generated by the singer via a brilliantly orchestrated campaign that included a performance at the Super Bowl, a massive Pepsi deal, an interview with Oprah and a HBO documentary. Surely this couldn't have all been for a tour that we all know would have sold out regardless of this promo.
It's more likely that there was an album ready for release, but lacklustre response to songs coming from camp Bey must have scared the singer/record label into postponing the album. It's something Ne-Yo briefly touched upon, but now producer Diplo has out and out said that album number five has most likely been scrapped entirely:
Diplo has said that his submissions "haven't made the final cut", as the record was cancelled, with Bey apparently working on a whole new collection.
"I just did two songs for her new album, well, I tried," Diplo told The Sun, adding: "I think she scrapped the record."
He continued: "The record was supposed to be done and they have been hitting me up for brand new ideas.

Hmm, this makes for a slightly depressing read, and I hope it's not true. Beyonce's new material hasn't really been given a chance thanks to the shoddy way it's been released to the public. Instead of teasers and new songs (that may or may not be singles), Bey should have picked one and promoted it HARD- regardless of the public's immediate reaction. This wishy-washy attitude has ultimately been the project's undoing.
I'll wait for a confirmation from Beyonce's people on this news, but everything so far is leading me to believe Diplo's theory.
But what about you guys? Do you think Beyonce should have stuck to her guns and released the album as it is? Or do you think she's making the right choice by heading back to the studio?
Thoughts?
Hmmm yeah I'll just be patient and wait for the official news...
ReplyDeletethis was beyonce's best chance for a return as the summer has saw most big stars in hibernation still, this winter is gonna be a diva slaughter with lady gaga, katy perry, jessie j all pushing new material . i guess we just have to deal with it.

As a Beyonce fan, I will state my ridiculous demands for her. I was in love with the operatic delivery in "I've been on". Not so much anything else from the song. I also want to know can she actively write an intelligent song. I desperatley want her to give up on the feminine choreo. My expectations are flip flopping crazily though. 4 didn't dissapoint me until I heard Kimbra's album...-_- I just want music that has a dedicated back story and an impressive lyrical delivery.
ReplyDeleteAnd I personally don't care if Beyonce alienates her fans with a mature album... I desperately need good lyrics from her and less melismas...
I hope this album isn't rushed in any way. I just want her to "perfect" it, really.
ReplyDeletei agree that opera part on ive been on , oooh i got chills . more of that Beyonce !
ReplyDeleteWell we all know the Beyonce is a perfectionist, so I'm not entirely surprised. I did hear that she wasn't going to release anything until she was SURE it would be a hit.
ReplyDeleteBut I'm kind of glad that she's done that, because I don't want her to make a rushed, mediocre album just because all of her fans are desperate for new material. I want a brilliant album, even if I have to wait a long time.
As much as I am not a Beyonce fan, I was actually feeling the new music she teased at. The sort of tropical tribal tunes and sounds. I would have definitely given it some attention. Standing on the sun would have been a hit I think. The only song I wasnt a fan of was Grown Woman. I actually think she is going to hurt more from this decision than anything. Shes got my attention now. I just hope she delivers something as impressive as what she was teasing until now.
ReplyDeleteOh my, I DO hope Beyonce's standard for "perfect" is a little higher than it being a "hit".
ReplyDeleteThough I fear that hope is in vain.
Can't wait to see the Hive fuming!!!
ReplyDeleteWell if you believed these sort of stories it should have come out months ago, I try and take them with a pinch of salt. The latest hopeful news I had herd was apparently a fan backstage on the tour asked her when it was coming out (who ever that was, they must of had some guts!!!), and allegedly Bey said November.... but now dates of the Mrs Carter show have lengthened all the way into December! I know Beyonce is some sort of superwoman, but can she finish/make a new album while still touring??
ReplyDeleteBut man I wish she did release an album this year, the amount of publicity she had at the start of year was huge, it would have been the year of Beyonce, I guess it just wasn't to be.
Ah well, I can wait for her! Good news is it will probably mean another tour in just a year or so, the Mrs Carter Show was amazing, I'd happily see her again at the next given opportunity!!
False Alarm. Diplo tweeted about it and said that he meant the songs he produced for the album by the word 'record'. See his tweets.
ReplyDeleteWell, if that is the case I'll remain disappointed.
ReplyDeleteTrying a bit hard dear
ReplyDeletewell i hope because even tho bey is one of my favs - everything that leaked from her supposed new album sucked major tosticles
ReplyDeleteWhether true or not, I think I'd be happier with an entirely new album. I feel like she was on point with 4. Standing On The Sun and Grown Woman kinda worked in advertisements and short snippets, but when the full versions came out, the overdone tribal beats just sounded too flat and the melody too straight, they were alright at first but they never TOOK me anywhere. I was growing weary and I'd actually be happy with a completely new direction.
ReplyDeleteSo sorry, I don't care... Wait, I'm not sorry!
ReplyDeleteYou don't know anything about her album, what do you have to be disappointed about? People love to hate on things they have no clue about.
ReplyDeleteNot trying anything. I wrote that before I saw Diplo's tweets. Now take a seat.
ReplyDeleteWhy do you believe there is a correlation between disappointment and hate? I stand disappointed because I'm not impressed with what she has released so far. And if this is a hint of what to come then I don't have the highest hopes. If you plan on going on a justification rant on why I'm wrong, stop right there because I don't give an Aphrodite's left ovary about your opinion.... :-)
ReplyDeleteHow can you be disappointed with 2 songs done for advertisements that probably won't be featured on her album, when claiming to be disappointed with the direction of the album? We don't know the direction this album is going in.
ReplyDeleteReread what I stated then come back and you'll see why I'm dissapointed....-_-....People who half-read stuff...
ReplyDeleteWaa waa, I post on a forum but I don't care about anyone's opinion but my own. Shocking response. I'm glad you shared your viewpoint on the album at least.
ReplyDeleteYou made it clear that you did not like the direction of this album, and that's what I commented on.
ReplyDeleteYeah I agree with this. I doubt she's going to remake the album entirely. The two songs she has "released" would do fine (although I prefer the live version of Standing On The Sun". Grown Woman is amazing though.
ReplyDeleteI was stating an "if" factor. If those two "promotional songs" hint at what is to come on her album then I will be disappointed. How'd you managed to get that twisted and out of context, is beyond me. Seriously, sit down and take a nice in-depth look at what I'm stating. I get every right to question the direction of her album based off of "promotional songs" if I don't like the songs. I hope we can now get a mutual understanding...
ReplyDeleteBut they don't, and that's what I was trying to make clear. Don't get all worked up. :)
ReplyDeleteWell thanks for the info, lol I'm still gonna dance on glass with what I've heard so far because the fact that you are trying to state that there is no correlation is a bit tough to swallow. I just don't wanna set my self up to be disappointed in the future. She always delivers vocally but lyrically, not so much IMHO.
ReplyDeleteI always enjoy it when people take some time out of their lives to mention that they don't care. :D
ReplyDeleteNice try but falling next to the wagon on this one. I don't think he meant he didn't care about the article. I think he means he doesn't care that the album got scrapped
ReplyDeleteOkay then, glad we could come to an understanding.
ReplyDeleteAnd absolutely. There are very few songs in which Beyonce satisfies me lyrically, ("I Miss You" and "Satellites" are some though). Those few are enough for me though.
LOl this is my first time listening to bow down/i been on and the opera part sounded like pokemon! not kidding LMAO! that is shady!
ReplyDeleteYes, as Opie mentioned, I don't care about the album (from what she's been releasing lately) Bow Down/I Been On? LMFAO!
ReplyDeleteSo, by what you meant, good to know you care that I don't. <3
Haha, he must be a bit pissed about that :(
ReplyDeleteI have to say whilst I do like Beyonce (to an extent) I have felt absolutely zero anticipation for any new works of hers. Maybe I am just being cynical but I don't think she will better 4. Its by far my favourite Bey album and from all the tripe she has been dropping recently nothing seems to match up, perhaps why the album has been wiped (if this is indeed true).
ReplyDeleteI just want her to come out with some random cool left-field music rather than the worn, women rule, I am a goddess ect ect...
"Bey should have picked one and promoted it HARD- regardless of the
ReplyDeletepublic's immediate reaction. This wishy-washy attitude has ultimately
been the project's undoing." In hindsight, this comment is quite funny :)
