Our American Divas were out in force to celebrate the second term inauguration of President Obama in Washington, DC. Kelly Clarkson was the first to show her patriotic pride, giving a rousing rendition of My Country Tis of Thee which concluded with quite a few held notes that really let Kelly's impressive vibrato shine. Overall this was a performance that wasn't as polished as Beyonce's, but it's hard to knock the emotion it packed.
Beyonce had the honour of performing the American National Anthem, The Star-Spangled Banner. Bringing a little bit of her own creative flair to the proceedings, the singer changed up the anthem's melody and arrangement, adding a contemporary twist to. Despite some apparent problems with her ear monitor, Beyonce still soared as only she can, turning in a pristine performance.
Though both Divas shone bright, which one had you waving your flag hardest: Beyonce or Kelly Clarkson? Let us know in the comments!
Queen B, hands down. I thought Kelly Clarkson and President Obama were awesome opening acts for Beyonce
ReplyDeleteNot gonna bother listening to either, but I hope Kelly slaughters Beyonce.
ReplyDeletehmmmm not being a fan of Kelly's and only small fandom for Beyonce id be inclined to like the latter but no, i think Kelly gave a powerful rendition and her voice is always worth a listen. you go gurl. not that Beyonce was bad tho :)
ReplyDeleteThey both really messed with the original structure of their songs but I prefer Kelly's performance. Beyonce's rendition of the anthem was distasteful to me for some reason. Although I preferred Kellys performance to Beyonce- I didnt like how far Kelly was out of her comfort zone at the beginning. She was very lacking at those bottom notes. Beyonce seems to be changing the structure of her songs to suit a more bottom heavy singer...
ReplyDeleteThey both were really amazing, vocally the best of the best in the US. I didn't like the quality of the sound of Bey's microphone, it was almost as if the volume were too low and there was way too much echo, almost like a persona recording rather than a TV recording oddly. I don't care that they changed the songs a little bit, and by no means I would could any of these changes distasteful, actually they were really good and well-thought. To sum up, I really enjoyed both performances and I think they both were as perfect as someone can be, giving the circustances of being singing in such an important event.
ReplyDeleteSomethings go without saying, but here goes.....Kelly all the way baby!!!
ReplyDeleteNow that I listen to Bey again, she definitely did better.
ReplyDeleteI cannot decide who did it better, I love them both! This was pure perfection!
ReplyDeleteThings I need to say....
ReplyDeleteI need to log into my disqus account on this device....
I'm too big a fan of Beyonce......
I need to give Kelly clarkson the benefit of the doubt....
was waiting for this! DD is so predictable...in a good way :D
ReplyDeleteI felt like the instrumentation drowned out B at some points, but at the end she brought it all together, still a strong performance. Kelly on the other hand, wow. Nailed it.
ReplyDeleteHahaha figures, Stuey!
ReplyDeleteLol
ReplyDeleteReally? I didn't notice any lipping. But I could have easily missed it as I was forced to avert my eyes in disgust whenever that ..... .. .... came in view.
ReplyDeleteWhat about Jennifer Hudson's performance at the Inaugural ball?
ReplyDeletelol looks like it's true. How awfully fitting consirdering his actual wearing in had also been done earlier. I think they answer on DD's recent ''question'' is in.
ReplyDeleteFor this comment, Opie, you have been officially been elevated from 'Insightful Music Expert' to 'Great Goddess'.
ReplyDeleteSorry late reply, I am not really surprised to be honest as Bey has done it many times before....it's really sad though as most singers who tackle the anthem seem to mime, again unless they are Kelly who has sang it live every time...Beyonce has no excuse really as she is not known for fluffing live, I just dont get it...
ReplyDeleteHahaha if only I wasn't an atheist...I could really run with that my fellow stan slayer. Queen slayer amongst her age peers ;-)
ReplyDeleteLol love it! :D
