Céline Dion - Parler à mon père [New Music]

It's been a while since we heard any new music from Canadian superstar, Celine Dion, but as of the 1st of July that's all changed! Parler à mon père ( translated as "Talk to My Father") was posted to Youtube, and is the first single to lifted off of Celine's November due, French album, Sans Attendre.

Reigned in vocals, an adult contemporary sound, and a clear focus on melody is what Celine is serving up here. It's not really my cup of tea, if I'm honest, but I thought some of you, with more sophisticated taste, may appreciate it.

Take a listen below.

  1. Weird, it's not available in my country.
Didn't know her VEVO wanted to keep the Icelandic people from listening :P

  3. Thank you! :)
If only I had a better grasp on the french language to appreciate the song more.

  4. Same here but nevertheless, generally speaking I prefer Celine in French.

  5. Obviously I do have a sophisticated taste ;b
I love this! Thanks for posting it.
Now that IS a song I'd pay to hear. As is Celine a singer I'd pay to hear sing practically anything.

  6. I thought you'd like this :). Oh, and I totally agree with your closing sentiment!

We can but pity the sad dear. ;)

  10. As do I, She seems more comfortable singing in French and the lyrics have more depth to them.

  11. Poor thing :(
The least we can do is pity him, he obviously came in seeking attention with his comments ;)

  12. Ugh I'm sorry I don't usually respond to this low-brow nonsensical shit but I have waited for a while to say this.
    L. Henrique, you offer absolutely nothing to this site. Your comments are not only solely degrading, they are also based on a complete and utter lack of knowledge of; the vocal anatomy and functioning, the level of ability for various artists, anything constructive whatsoever or any explanation as to why the negativity.
I don't understand what you get out of posting on here. You aren't insightful, you aren't valued, you certainly aren't changing anything on here. Why not waste your obviously not only copious but worthless time on something else, and leave the 'adults' - in this sense, people with any degree of knowledge on vocals and/or leaving constructive or intelligent comments - to talk? Run along, child.

  13. I adore Celine, I have every English album and a couple of her French ones and I have to say she is a fantastic singer for sure.

I have to say though I agree with Opie, she is better singing French, this is because not only does she connect better with the song but she clearly feels more of what she is singing than when she sings in English and it shows, she sounds much more genuine. Her voice glides easier and she concentrates more of the little nuances in her voice, when she sings in English is more about the vocal performance. Don't get me wrong I do think she does feel the songs too but it carries better when in French.

Sorry for the ramble but like Mariah I could talk about this lovely ladies voice all day, it really is a spectacular instrument indeed, often overlooked these days too. May I also add that one of the reasons I really like her is because she is totally and utterly bonkers hehe, thanks for bringing more Dion into our lives DD and if you learn anymore about her upcoming English stuff too I hope you cast an ear over it and let us know what you think :)

  14. Hey Stuey!! I love when you get into it in your comments! Makes it fun to read! I will, of course, be commenting on Celine when she does any English material, but I also will be picking up this French album when it drops! I admit I haven't heard much of her French material, but even from this song I can hear her voice is more lyrical when she sings in her native tongue.

  15. Don't be silly! Though I did worry you might think that after I wrote it.....lol @the video choice! I'm saying nothing!! :P

  16. Lol thanks! Loving your work as always! She defo does go for the emotive when in French then the stratosphere in English lol apparantly her new English album is gonna be called "Water and a Flame" and contain cover songs from her residence as well as new songs which will be released in October, but that comes from wikipedia, so dont take it for truth lol

  17. Hehehe! Nice! :p

  18. Don't worry, I thought if that was the case it was funny. :)

  19. Thanks Stuey but though that is indeed my view, it was not me but Serendipity who expressed it so clearly. I just agreed with him.

  20. Have any of you guys ever seen this performance? Though in English it WAS in France ;)
I think this is about my all time favorite performance of Celine

  21. One of her best performances, a nice blend of technique and emotion.

  22. Fantastic performance! Her belts always make the hairs on my neck stand up! I like how she plays with her falsetto a little here then brings it right back down into the depths of her range! Good stuff!

  23. Here's one in French for you DD. This is my personal favorite :)

  26. Couldn't agree more, thats her artistry speaking! Don't get me wrong I like a bit of show off (Mariah) but there are only certain people that can pull that off. With Celine is always been about the song though!

    ReplyDelete
  27. Yes, she is "old fashioned that way". That's why I like her best of all the new divas. ;)
Most are inspired by Whitney, Celine more by folks like Streisand.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Totally, they don't make em like they used to lol I am actually a fan of Canadian diva's too, like Alanis, Nelly Furtado, Avril even a little bit Shania (when I am in the mood) :D a few good diva's dropped outta there!

    ReplyDelete
  29. I really like you Stuey but how the HELL can you put Shania in a category with Celine??? Or even in the diva category.
She is an incredibly poor singer imo who can't stay in tune and surely is one of the most blessed by the invention of auto tune artists around. Plus she is annoyingly nasal.
And actually...other than being Canadian, I don't feel the others should be mentioned in one breath with Celine either.
If you ARE going to put any Canadian singer in the diva category with Celine, at least let it be KD Lang for god's sake. ;D

    ReplyDelete
  30. Hahaha I literally LOL'ed there!! I guess it was the 'Come on Over' album that I grew up to! Lol KD is a legend obviously but yeh I have slightly eclectic tastes! lol love it! :D

    ReplyDelete
  31. Oh I can see a person liking Shania. Just not put her into any singing category which includes greatness of Celine proportion.
But if you can stand that nasality, it's not like bad songs or music.
I myself own one of her DVDs. Though only because of AKUS being the band on that one. But I find I rarely listen to it since I do have a hard time with nasal singing.

Anyway, glad you enjoyed that and didn't take it the wrong way as it was totally intended to amuse you. :)

    ReplyDelete
  32. Haha not at all, its all good banter! Being honest though I cannot remember the last time I made an effort to dig her CD out and listen to it! But yeh she is nasal, I remember seeing a vid of her before she made it and she sounded much more rounded and healthy...but absolutely nowhere near Celine in terms of vocal ability ;)

    ReplyDelete
  33. Well, time to stop procrastinating. I will leave you with a reminder of Shania's nasality and an example of what is a better solution than auto tune...get Alison to be your savior and turn proceedings into something of higher quality. ;)

  36. thanks for all the attention. You all must really love me.

    ReplyDelete
  37. And you must be real needy if you think negative attention equals love. I hope that's just the child you are talking big and not something you really believe.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Why ignore you when we can down vote you? ;D

  39. Ignoring people's opinions seems to me about as much the purpose of a music blog as trolling is.

  40. Don't quite feel that emotion for you dude. A 10 year old's behavior in anybody over 10 is in me more inspiring this emotion...
