Leona Lewis has just debuted a new song, Come Alive, during her live set at Radio 1's Hackney Weekend!
Opening the event, Leona had this to say about her time on stage:
"It was really fun...I was quite nervous at the beginning but just kind of got into my stride. It was so cool just to do it on my home turf."
There's no massive vocal to be found on Come Alive, but I'm really liking the darker feel of the track. I can't wait to hear what the studio version will sound like.
Check it out below, and let me know what you think!
This lady will always be an amateur singer. There is nothing relevant about her.
ReplyDeleteI was hoping she wouldn't release more "Echo Era" material. I really loved her debut Album as it seemed quite a complete album. But I feel she is trying to remain in the spotlight by trying to remain Current. I mean it's not a bad song it's just that I think we all know Leona can do much better.
ReplyDeletePersonally if she had just released what she intended to in the first place she would have more cred than she currently has and she could have got around to another project (hopefully one with better material than has been so far dropped).
ReplyDeleteYou know its a bad situation when your label deliberately pushes back your album for over a year, it smacks of a massive lack of confidence in the material.
The sad thing is we all know that she is a capable vocalist, I wouldn't say amateur (Cheryl Cole is amateur). But yeh as Brian said she is capable of so much better, I enjoyed her first two albums and even the slammed Hurt EP but this dancey stuff is that whole riding the wave gig (yawn).
Her new single is meant to be called "Trouble" written by Emelie Sande so hopefully that will be something of a more interesting listen.
Bored silly within the minute.
ReplyDeleteYeah, think this is going to be a filler/ album track. Looking forward to hear what her actual single brings! I do quite like it, though. Missing a little magic though. Needs a stronger vocal.
ReplyDeleteI personally liked echoe more. Her debut was too safe. I loved http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=dfVsHmgGbsg and http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=TFAlx4QiO6o . Didnt love the lead single ' happy', though.
ReplyDelete'amateur' is a bit harsh! Lol
ReplyDeleteLol. What do you wAnna hear from her, opie?
ReplyDeleteA well written song I guess. ;)
ReplyDeleteI think a lot of these singers like Leona etc...if they are not song writers themselves, they should put some effort into finding good material. My impression is all they do is hang around, maybe promote some of their previous album, 'till the record company wants them to go into the studio and then I guess just pick some stuff from a list of tunes the company provides them as hopefully hits.
Perhaps their time would be spent more useful in searching for tunes? Hell, just hanging on youtube one can find amateurs writing decent tunes. Or listen to some of the good singer/songwriters and ask them if they got some tune lying around which doesn't fit their own style. I mean, why not contact people like Shawn Colvin, Patty Griffin, Mary Chapin Carpenter, Amos Lee, Darrell Scott, Shelby Lynne etc etc etc and ask. She should go hunt for songs and then make them her own and fuck that hunt for "hits". You know, be more of an artist and less of a product owned by a record company.
Since you asked LOL
To each his own I guess. I just wish she would release something more personal or even a song that lies within her comfort range (I noticed lately that she has begun experimenting more and more with her lows which is her weakest area of power).
ReplyDeleteI think the lying around sorting through songs part is a bit of an exaggeration but yeah I agree for the most part. If Leona would pull a Christina and collaborate with some very talented songwriters (Linda Perry has been responsible for some of pops greatest songs from various artists) or at least someone of some merit then she would have much less of an issue remaining relevant to pop culture and her career would seem like it would survive in the long run.
ReplyDeleteTotally. She was struggling with those low notes in her live set.
ReplyDeleteWith this new album I'm just hoping she doesn't go the same way as Alexandra Burke did with her new material. Leona needs to differentiate herself from everyone else out there, but remain true to who she is and, perhaps more importantly sales wise, true to what her fans think she is. A tough task, me thinks.
In my opinion, a singer doesn't always have to sing on a higher register in every song to be considered a great vocalist
