Katy Perry really followed through with the military theme of the promo for Part Of Me when she took it live to the stage at American Idol. Arriving from the rafters with her platoon, as if airlifted in, I had unjustifiably high hopes for this performance. But boy, was it pitchy! It wasn't even as if the dancing made up for it, or excused it, because that was flat and lacking energy.
At least there was the distraction of looking for all the military related paraphernalia they could pack in, to take the edge off. Small blessings,eh? Army style clothing - well camouflage and use of nets- a couple of "night vision" shots and an army drill segment before the middle-eight, were just some of the things I spotted. This was more "sexy recruitment drive" for the Army than an accomplished pop performance. Still love the song, though!
