Nelly Furtado- Vocal Profile/ Range

Vocal Type Mezzo-Soprano
Vocal Range: 2 Octaves 7 notes  D3-C6
Whistle Register: No
Vocal Pluses: Strong, full low to mid range with a piercing, clear chest register. Her voice- whether singing low, mid or high- sounds well supported and achieved via good technique, meaning there is little to no straining.
Vocal Negatives:  Voice has a nasally tone and chest notes can sound stringy.

  1. I'm pretty sure she isn't a contralto. Her voice is too thin and light. For me she is a mezzo soprano.

  5. What is the higher note in her chest voice, and what is the higher falsetto from her? Though, what is the lowest not? remebering that she recently show for all a new vocal range.

  6. I think that you, Diva Devotee must evaluate better, the vocal profile of Nelly Furtado. She grew her vocal hability and quality, revealing a new perspective by her voice. Currently, she came hiting high notes in chest voice and thickening your lower tones.

  7. Her voice may be thin, but it's definitely not light. She definitely sounds like a Contralto to me.

    TBH I think she's a soprano.

  9. You are spot on, Mikhail is incredibly far off.
If Nelly were a contralto, I guess Cher and Annie Lennox are Basso Profundos.

  11. I like her album Loose, but I'm really not fan of her other work. I find her voice very thin and nasal. It sounded good with the type of music on loose but I don't like the sound of her new album :S. I'm not denying that she's a good singer though.

She needs to work with producers that know how to bring out her best. Timbaland did it brilliantly on Loose. Her live stuff can be pretty great. The nasal thing works for her.
