I'd also say one criticism about her is her notorious diva attitude...keeping fans waiting at gigs etc. Shame she only had one hit album as she was/is really really talented.
ReplyDelete@shopaholic, totally agree.
ReplyDeleteShe has whistle register. From 4.20 on the song "To Zion", you can hear her whistle as an effect to the song. I bet she rarely uses whistle register since it's probably not comfo for her. As you say, she's a Contraalto.
ReplyDeleteThought she's workin' on her second album now. I'm a big fan of her!!!! <3
ReplyDelete@anon, the whistle note is in dispute. It was claimed by the backing singer,Sabrina Johnston, that it was her who hit the note. The fact that Lauryn has never hit a note anywhere near that high again before or since means I'm inclined to beleive it wasn't her.
ReplyDeleteA very talented woman, underminded however, by her cynical and ungrateful attitude. I was very put off when reading comments that came specifically from her. I first heard of her in Sister Act 2. Her melismas were amazing. That deep and unique texture to her voice captivated me. I truly try to seperate the voice and the personality, as I think her attitude should not be taken into account when discussing her voice and talent. I never fail to dissuade myself when I'm listening to her though.. Haha. Probably the cynic in me trying to break out.
ReplyDeleteLauren Hill D O E S indeed have a "whistle register" for example...the conclusion of "To Zion" the last note was a whistle
ReplyDeleteThat was backing singer, Sabrina Johnston.
ReplyDeleteInformative, though i believe her voice reaches beyond the A5. In the song To Zion, she is heard using a whistle register; singing a e6.
ReplyDeleteI really appreciate all the work and analysis that you put into these artist. I love music and I'm impressed with this site.
ReplyDeleteWhat cynical ungrateful attitude are you talking about? Honestly, I would like to know. I have seen her in past years at times not very lucid, or hard to understand, but ungrateful?
ReplyDeleteLauryn is a mezzo.
ReplyDeleteI feel she is also a mezzo.
ReplyDeleteYet another profile that incorrectly calls a mezzo a contralto just because she has a deep, rich voice. Please try and learn more about and understand voice types more in future and correct all these mistakes.
ReplyDeleteLook at the date.... Enough said.
ReplyDeleteWhat's the date got to with it? I know this was profile was done 2 years ago but even in recent years and now Lauryn is still a mezzo.
ReplyDeleteI think he is talking about the growth in knowledge many have gained in the time since then.
ReplyDeleteHaha no problem saw you explain this at some other post and decided to relay the post
