Vocal Type: Mezzo-Soprano
Vocal Range: 2 Octaves 6 notes and a semitone Eb3-C#6
Whistle Register: No
Vocal Pluses: Comfortable in all parts of the voice with the tone remaining clear and pure throughout. Strong chest voice that can be delivered with or without a thin vibrato.
Vocal Negatives: Though the voice is impressive as a whole, it lacks an individual sound or style that makes it easily identifiable.
I agree her voice sounds plain. Good belter though.
ReplyDeleteI wouldn't be a massive fan, but I disagree she doesn't sound individual. If I ever hear a song by her, I immediately know who it is. I would say her negatives are when she feels the emotion of a song, she tends to be a bit whiny & overwrought.
ReplyDeleteThanks Anon above. I'm not that familiar with her music, so that helps.
ReplyDeleteU know I have always thought that she had a pleasant voice.
ReplyDeletei loooooooooooooooooooooooooover her voice !!

She has more than 2 octaves. Jordin and least has a 3- 3.5 octave vocal range. This is incorrect. But with that said, she is one of the best vocalists of her generation and one of the best to come out of american idol. Her chest voice is amazing!!!
ReplyDeleteI agree she is really strong, my fav is Kelly but she is pretty impressive too! Is she still recording? I have not heard from her for a while?
ReplyDeleteShe is pretty solid and consisant with her vocals and she does have a full 3 octives, she has certainly improved, but she I agree she needs to find a vocal styling that will fit for her voice. Great chest voice and technique
ReplyDeleteShe's a consistent performer, I agree. Her voice sounds like it has developed considerably over her career. She needs to find a unique styling or color that makes her memorable. I feel the time for her to become more creative is at hand.
ReplyDeleteI heard an interview where she stated initually she was pursing country prior to American Idol, with that I guess its clear she never really found where her passion is. I read that she is recording right now and that she is expanding, and including some gospel influnces, which will be interesting to see her dip into that, consedering she realy dont have a gospel tone or style (actually no style for that matter), but the benefit of having a light voice can work over heavy dark contralo like background vocals. There is a wide open market for an artist like her who is rising, and blossimg into her own with her acting and physical apperance. Plus she does take care of her voice and dosent live a party lifestyle .If her management
ReplyDeleteI think she started to open up in her latest film/music project "Sparkle" which saw her move towards more traditional influences and gave her some direction. We'll see what works for her.
ReplyDeleteI think she is more of a soprano based off the fact her voice doesn't have much weight or strength
ReplyDeleteI disagree. I see it the opposite way. I hear Jordin Sparks as a mezzo. Her belts are weighty, chesty, and thick, and her chest voice is probably her area of peak resonance -- her strongest area. Her belting voice is quite hard to miss but the rest of her voice is not especially agile and it sounds darker than a full soprano.
ReplyDeleteI never really paid much notice to Jordin before - she never really stood out, as this profile kinda says, but after watching Sparkle she's definitely underrated! I'd say she suits pop/R&B with soul/jazz influences.
ReplyDeleteThis girl is no where NEAR a Mezzo. Can you hear her timbre??? It's way too bright for her to be a Mezzo. Her tessitura is very high and she has no voice after a 3rd octave F sharp. No way she's a mezzo. She constantly and naturally sings in the Soprano tessitura. The accuracy she has in the upper register is foreign to that of a true Mezzo. Jordin is a Light Lyric Soprano, unquestionably.
ReplyDeleteEverytime someone hears a light singer, they get the impression that she is a Soprano. Diva is right, she is a Mezzo not doubt about it. the lightest baritone gets confused a lot with the Tenor so for Soprano and Mezzo it's the same thing with Lyric voices
