Vocal Type: Soprano
Vocal Range: 3 Octaves 3 notes B2-E6
Whistle Register: No
Vocal Pluses: Incredible control, and technique, means all parts of her range sound healthy and effortlessly accessed. Her chest voice is piercing and robust, with a slight smokiness to it that gives way to a clarity as it ascends. The head voice is large with it extending up to E6, which is usually whistle note territory.
Vocal Negatives: Suggestions?.
Amazing singer! One of my favorites!
ReplyDeleteImpressive striking voice!
Couldn't agree more. I would also add:
ReplyDeletePositives: innate musicality and highly original interpretation of lyrics and phrasing.
Possible negative: lack of versatility? I've only ever heard two real styles from her - ballad with guitar, or a slightly jazzier belt like in her more r'n'b flavoured stuff. I think she would have struggled with real uptempo stuff.
However that's not to say that she wasn't an incredible singer.
She was and still is such an amazing talent, who was so overlooked.
ReplyDeletePositives (In my opinion) are her original interpretation of songs e.g Songbird and her ability to emote.
Negatives would be, although she has an amazing upper register, it is not always of pleasure to listen to, particularly in her soul covers.
....yes honey. I didn't even know you had that in you. Blue eyed soul...gotta love it. GOD bless you.
ReplyDeleteOh thanks, i appriciate that!
ReplyDeleteWhat do you think is her best overall album?
ReplyDeletewhat is robust anybody please?
ReplyDeletewhen you have a robust voice, this means you have a great tone without forcing and a voice made with good technique, with a great balance between head voice and chest voice while mixing.that's a robust voice (:
ReplyDeleteI disagree with you. Robust voice for me doesn't mean good technique at all, just a natural good voice with power, volume and weight. Forcing notes, mixing the voice and all that stuff has nothing to do with the voice per se. That's pure technique that you can learn.
ReplyDeleteyou didnt get my logic.good mixing = power+natural voice = robust(mixing well means you get your voice to be the most powerfull possible)
ReplyDeletehaving a great tone without forcing = your voice is naturally powerfull = your voice is robust, got it?its like that,a robust voice needs good technique, but not always good technique makes a robust voice, keri hilson is a great example, she has a very natural technique, indeed, her voice is weak and thin.if you have a robust voice(not artificially made) you probably have a good technique.but, you can be an "screamtyna",and just scream all the way, which doesnt make your voice robust, makes it extra-forced.
Agree, with some parts. Christina's voice isn't naturally robust, she forces that sound with her depressed larynx, and that's why she often breaks and sounds strainned and forced. But I still think that technique has nothing, nothing AT ALL, to do with your voice being robust or not. Mixing neither.
ReplyDeleteYou can have a very robust voice and not being able to mix very well the chest voice and the head voice. In other words, robust is a quality of the voice regardless how the singer uses it. Cher has a robust voice, Beyoncé has a robust voice.
Eva Cassidy had this natural gift of transforming famous songs into her own. "Over the rainbow," "Imagine," and "What a Wonderful World" were written for her and her alone. She is truly missed.
ReplyDeleteI enjoy her voice. She was a very good interpreter of songs that other people originally performed. It would have been interesting to hear if she wrote original work, but I know this was not her focus. She had a way of making everything sound effortless. Nothing sounded strained. And that gave her voice a lot of clarity and beauty, I feel.
ReplyDeleteIt's Tina, not Tyna.
ReplyDeleteTo me she sounded like a spinto-soprano.
