A member of Youtube has created a video that pits the vocals of Christina Aguilera against Lady Gaga. I'm not inclined to agree with the uploader's opinion, as I think Christina and Gaga have their own strengths and weaknesses, but I still thought it was interesting enough to post.
But what do you think? Do you think Christina Aguilera is a better live Singer than Lady Gaga?
Gaga can sing, but she's no match for Christina.
ReplyDeleteThis video just puts Lady Gaga to shame. She can sing, period. There is nothing special in Gaga's voice, nothing that can make you feel ":O", if you know what I mean. Xtina, although sometimes oversings, has an amazing voice, a wide range, and a prettier tone (I hate Gaga's tone).
ReplyDeleteChristina definitely has the better voice (or had, before she wrecked it) but Gaga is a better overall creative artist. She has more strings to her bow than Christina.
ReplyDeleteI think they are both different kinds of singers that individually have unique strengths. For me, Xtina is all about vocal acrobatics and whilst impressive, and shows effective control of her voice, it screams to me that there is nothing more exciting to her voice than that. With Gaga, who does not lean on melisma to impress, i believe she has a deeper more expressive tone to her voice. She may not have the same range but her voice can adopt several timbres whilst aguilera's can only adopt a few, from my point of view. From what I have seen from them both in recent performances, i beleive Gaga to be the better live singer. Aguilera has pushed her voice too much over the years and i think is suffering for it now. Gaga puts i think more effort into the whole performance not just the vocal.
ReplyDeleteChristina is the better natural singer. Not having any kind of vocal training up until recently her ability with her voice was impressive despite her bad technique. Gaga is a great tactical singer however she tends to perform with much more dazzle to increase the quality of her performances as her voice lacks luster. Christina's voice has declined from her debut but she is already showing such fast improvement. Gaga on the other hand has damaged her voice from drug abuse and the tone and timbre of her voice remains dark and dramatic. Overall they are both great singers in their own right and I hope to see even more from both.
ReplyDeleteactually since lady gaga's debut her voice has improved a lot... i agree when she first came out her voice was deep and thicker but shes stopped smoking and has improved
ReplyDeleteyes christina has a natural and raw gift but her constant use of unnecessary runs ruins almost all her live performances
her bad technique has damaged her voice because her belting will forever be in her throat
both are great though like diva devotee said they both have their strengths and their weaknesses
prettier tone is subjective
ReplyDeletei used to love christina's tone but her deep and thick tone just doesn't suit some songs whereas gaga has a more pure voice and it is more versatile
i think gaga=technique and versatility
christina raw power and ability to execute complex runs
also i dont believe that christina has never had formal training...
ReplyDeletein fact don lawrence said himself that he has worked with both xtina and gaga
Naturally none of them has a good tone but both of them can manipulate their tone brilliantly but for me Xtina have a better tone naturally and overall. but if you listen to Xtina's
ReplyDeletepop songs her tone doesn't sound very interesting there but
in songs like Impossible, Imagine and Walk her tone sounds
so different and amazing showing how versatile she is. gaga
has a good tone on the range of D3-D5 but above that her voice, tone is thin and annoying and she doesn't have a good
falsetto notes. but for Xtina her low notes can be dark, smoky
and interesting or light and ugly. her belted notes can sound
healthy at times even on high notes like a F#5 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pWKj8DzFoOc) at 2.54
brilliant. but also can be very ugly at times. her falsetto is very colorful.
Christina never had proper formal lessons. She has had "Sessions" to tune her instrument towards the beginning of her career, but afterwards nothing.
ReplyDeleteChristina is better than Lady Gaga... You don't say? (put nicholas cage meme here)
ReplyDeleteChristina can only adopt a few timbres? WORST STATAMENT ever. You can say that she has a bad techinique, she does a lot of vocal runs and melismas, and her high belting is damaged... But her voice is one of the most versatiles out there, she can adopt countless timbres. You don't anything about her or her discography to say something like that.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Brian, Karen ect. Christina by far the most naturally talented vocalist but when it comes to being the showman Gaga wins hands down.
ReplyDeleteI also hope that Christina continues with the vocal coaching so that she can rebuild her voice and retain. It's been a while sing I have heard her sing and thought WOW! though...she needs to hurry back!
Perhaps I was a little unfair and vague because of my bias towards GaGa. I will say though that I personally just don't believe that her voice can adopt a multitude of timbres rather than her voice just suiting multiple genres. There is no denying I will admit, that Xtina was the better singer in her day.
ReplyDeleteChristina's vocals sound all the same. GaGa changes her vocals all the time. Christina uses the same "Yeaaaaah Yeeeeah " everytime which is very annoying!
ReplyDeleteSo Lady GaGa is actually the better singer :)
I can see where you're coming from but I don't think Christina sounds the same in every song she sings. Just listen to "Birds of Prey" and "Save Me From Myself."
ReplyDeleteUghh i know she is a better singer
ReplyDeleteLOl Christina uses the yeaah so that make gaga a better singing . Christina doesn't sound the same in every song seeing how she is more than a pop artist she has sing every thing from rnb and pop to gospel to power ballet, dance ballet ,Broadway and show tunes she is not only very versatile but flexible.
ReplyDeleteHer singing yeah goes in to the bad things about her singing which is her bad technique and her over singing but lady gaga some times come off with unhealthy notes and oversing and shouting but we are not talking about that are we ?
Christina is not only a better sing but a better artist . i like lady gaga but no .
lady gaga might be a performer when dancing but some times we all know that Christina only needs a mic and a spotlight bring the house down . AND I not even that much of a xtina fan i even i know that ,
aguilera's can only adopt a few?? haha wat ?
ReplyDeleteGaga has great technique i must praise but to me i think Christina voice is just naturally magnificent even tho i hate for her bad technique ..ughh
ReplyDeletegaga is not a better artist
ReplyDeleteyes she is
ReplyDeletechristina has intrinsic talent given to her when she was born but she damaged it with her improper technique
This post is bound to cause a lot of controversy. I mean, who is to say which one is better? Better singers are interpreted different everyday, by different people. As said by DD, very different singers who each have strengths the other doesn't have.
ReplyDeleteI personally would rather listen to GaGa sing than Xtina (however would much much much prefer to hear GaGa without the autotune and produce an acoustic album). Whether that makes her a better singer, well I don't know. Who am I to judge, I only know what I like to hear and unfortunately, that's not Xtina.
Christina has powerfull voice but I think Lady Gaga is a better live singer because Xtina can't sing live many times. And Xtina can't sing live now as before
ReplyDeleteAs well as her crappy musicianship
ReplyDeleteLady gaga hands down for me. Christina over sings every thing and to me complex melismas do not even sound nice. Lady gaga has a great tone and I lover the rock element to her voice.
ReplyDeleteSo you're saying Gaga is the better artist because Christina's technique sucks? That doesn't make sense because vocals don't necessarily equal artistry. Christina is a great artist - just because she doesn't write or produce all of her songs (at least not by herself without help) or play any instruments. She is, contrary to what Karen V says, just a creative an artist as Gaga - she's explored varying genres and themes and drawn on many vocal and musical influences, as well as changed the sound of her voice and style to suit different genres and songs.
ReplyDeleteGaga is more of a consistent singer live but when Christina's good, she blows her out the water. Her tone and the way she uses her voice (not talking about technique here) makes her stand out from the crowd. Lady Gaga's voice does nothing for me, I really don't think she's got a great tone, but of course that's subjective.
ReplyDeleteChristina doesn't oversing "everything".
ReplyDeleteYeaaah Yeahh uses Aretha Franklin but ... I won't even compare...
ReplyDeletebetter musician XTina+ Gaga+ vocal range XTina+ Gaga -smaller longest Note XTina kills! better control-XTina you decide and remember Celine Dion said about XTina she is the best vocalist of our gnsh....
