You have got her range wrong. on Messy Little Raindrops her range is Eb3-F#5.
ReplyDeleteThe range says "Approx", and as I don't have the new album I havent added vocals from any album cuts. If you could direct me to the song I'll check them out.
ReplyDeleteWhy is Cheryl even being considered in this site? She hardly ever sings live and the final product is average at best if she does. It must be frustrating for Alexandra that someone who has an inch of her talent is more popular. Alexandra is the best performer in the UK no doubt.
ReplyDeleteHi, Karen V here, can I just add that a 'negative' for Cheryl should definitely be her piss-poor tuning, or 'pitching' as people seem to politely call it these days.
ReplyDeleteIt always horrified me that she was a judge on x-factor - how can she tell if other people are in tune when she can't even sing a relatively simple melody in tune herself? Like this:

Harsh words Karen but I can see what you mean with that performance. There sure are a lot of bum notes in that...;)
ReplyDeleteAre you sure she's a contralto? Her voice sounds high and gentle to me.
ReplyDeleteIts a toughy, because in all honesty I don't think her voice fits any operatic fach...
ReplyDeleteHi, this is he same Anonymous that asked if she was really a contralto (I think a bog standard pop "mezzo" myself). Thanks for replying!
ReplyDeleteAnyway, here are her old Popstars: The Rivals performances.

She can clearly sing, although her voice is unremarkable. She is clearly good enough to be in a girl band, and she was easily the most qualified of the X-Factor judges because she's actually been through the process.
Forgot to add her Audition:

She manages a high note in there. I wish I could be more helpful by being able to tell you what note exactly it is. Also, it's hilarious to see Pete Waterman perving at her!
Hey anon, i think the highest note there is a C5 when she switches to her head voice.
ReplyDeleteDoesn't she do an E3 in fight for this love
ReplyDeleteHer highest chest note is I think an E5 or an Eb5. She hit it live during her semi-lip synced performance of Promise This on X Factor. The bridge was live (and you can tell) and in the studio version the note was sung in head voice but she opted to sing it in chest voice and it was actually quite strong. Maybe there's potential but she still is currently a shit singer
ReplyDeleteLol loving the punchline there....
ReplyDeleteHey DD, wanted to drop you a line. I added to wikipedia about her being a Mezzo, not sure how I feel about the claim but the source (BBC) I felt was reliable. (I randomly found it on teletext no less lol)
ReplyDeleteWhat do you think? Having had a trawl through some GA songs I am thinking she could indeed be, her upper register in some songs was pretty spot on. She sounded really good on Untouchable for example...
Hey stuey, just saw this now- am trying to make the audio files work! Will change to mezzo! :D
ReplyDeleteAfter seeing her "sing" live at the Jubilee with Gary Barlow, I'm not sure you can even call her a singer - don't mean to be rude but I can sing better (and I have an awful voice, believe me)
ReplyDeletePositive: nice engineer of voice.
ReplyDeleteNegative: can't sing

I just heard a rumour that she is to be a mentor on 'The Voice'....how contradictory would the message of that show be then huh? Being mentored by somebody who can barely hold a note....meh!
